  • If you're new to potato scones, you definitely have to try! It is so good ! Often also called "Tattie scone - Tottie scone" in Scotland). A delicious Scottish recipe served for breakfast with fried eggs, sausages and bacon etc. But they can also be consumed in a sweet way with jam and a delicious, hot cup of tea! Here is the real recipe that was made more than a century ago with whole milk. Today whole milk has been replaced by butter. Just as good. You have to eat them hot! Ps: in the recipe I show you two different cooking methods (it's up to you to choose the one that suits you). Good tasting !
♥ Subtitles are available, enable them on the video.
    Ingredients :
500g cooked potatoes (3 medium sized)
60 ml of milk (1/4 cup)
    60g flour (¼ cup)
    60g flour (1/4 cup)
    Salt
    Butter

In Scotland we often eat them in a roll with a square sausage and an egg...blooming lovely!

Is that served with fried sugar cubes and a hunk of chocolate covered, deep fried bacon?

You’re the first person I’ve come across who prefers that specific combination in a roll.
I would have thought that square slice and fried egg, in particular, would be mutually exclusive breakfast items (as far as putting them on a roll, goes, anyway)?
Personally, I prefer my tattie scones (homemade or otherwise) on a plate with bacon, a poached egg, mushrooms, and tomato.

l was taught that you dry fry them, and then after that fry them into some bacon fat, l make these all of the time usually big batches (5-10 lbs of potato's done up)
and after dry frying them l let them cool and put X amount into baggies and freeze them and take them out when we want them. yum. Also my grandpa told us the thicker they were the richer one was back in the day. Still enjoy them till this day.

Interesting take on the recipe, bearing in mind most families cooked their porridge at the start of the week-poured it into a receptacle like a lined drawer and had it sliced cold daily as they cld'nt afford the coal.
More likely margarine after 1900 for frying if there was no other fat.
