The best part about Schitt's Creek is that it's funny without being mean.
The premise is that they are all so over the top self absorbed narcissists and take themselves way too seriously which is what makes it so funny.
@@muskokamike127 What I mean is that it's written in a way that doesn't have a mean streak in it. Other so-called "comedy" shows have this mean streak in them that I don't really like. There are going to be some new "comedy" shows on the CBC this year that I don't even think are funny and will never be funny. I don't think Tom Green is especially funny.

@caveman Versace I love UK comedies! 'The Office" was great, and, in my opinion, funnier than its US version, which was pretty damn funny. And no laugh track with either. I actually don't mind LTs with certain shows. 'I Love Lucy", and "Frasier" come to mind. The problem nowadays is that everything must be so PC, and the material is so poor and , frankly, juvenile that the LT seems to be saying "That line was funny, you should laugh now." It's maddening. Haven't seen a good US sitcom on network TV, in a while, with the exception of Last Man Standing" on FOX now, since ABC canned it for being un-PC(although they deny that was the reason). Another recent comedy that was excellent was "Roseanne" and we all know what happened there. I didn't know Valerie Jarrett was black either. I thought she was Iranian.
@@reneemulherin2899 The Office didn't have a laugh track, but they would pause and look at the camera which was the cue for the audience to laugh. So in a sense, it did have a laugh cue, even though it wasn't necessarily a laugh track.
Being a Canadian production, no laugh track is used. When you watch Canadian shows such as 'Corner Gas', 'Kim's Convenience', and 'Schitt's Creek', you won't hear a laugh track. You, create the laughter. You are the audience.

Dan said in an interview that he wrote it into David that he's always almost laughing or laughing at others bc he had such a hard time keeping it together. It was in his Vogue interview

@@CelesteKTheNewWaveRevue When I first saw this I was expecting him to break first, but they've been doing comedy together for decades so I guess it makes sense that he didn't. Or maybe the eating distracted him enough, lol. Because that scene was hilarious, reminds me of when singers try to put their own "spin" on singing the national anthems at hockey games.
Can we take a moment to appreciate how well the side characters were written specially Roland and Jocelyn, Moira and Jocelyn could've easily been rivals but instead she was warm welcoming and she put up with moira's extravagant personality and they eventually became friends and I just love it . There was no unnecessary drama or toxicity between the characters . The show was simply perfect
Roland and Johny too, they were kinda somewhat friends by the final season

i just started watching it, and was pleasantly surprised to find that the family is shown as loving and somewhat kind, and that it wasn’t just a repeated joke of “haha rich people are assholes”. it’s such a good show, it shows the good and bad side of every character
I especially like Johnny and Moira’s relationship. I like how in love they are still.
That's why I tell friends to give it about six episodes and the characters will have started developing. Until then it's mainly a situation, and if you decide you don't like the people or the situation, you might not give it a chance. The people grow into ones you feel like you've met.
I started it on Saturday. Today is Thursday and I’m on season 5. It’s my first time ever watching this show and it’s HILARIOUS!
@@Golden_Rabbit The funny thing is the original idea was that they would be in an unhappy marriage until Catherine O'Hara suggested that they should actually be in love. So glad she suggested that as I love them as a TV couple.

Eugene's facial expressions while Catherine is singing Danny Boy is the single greatest thing to come from this series, only just beating Moira's wine commercial. I watch both of them a lot more than I probably should.
Looooved that they swept the Emmy's, so deserved. Phenomenal writing, directing, and acting, and finally something original! Can't wait to see what they come up with next ❤️
No No The way the show ended, they could easily pick up a sequel showing their new lives. Really hope so; just finished the 6th season, & miss it already!

One of the funniest shows ever made. So simple but yet amazing. No laugh track required, just perfect writing.
it is nigh on impossible for a show to be funny with a laugh track. The only exception to this is the early seasons of league of gentlemen.
Just finished the last season of Schitt's Creek and I feel like I'm already missing the whole family. I was bawling my eyes out in the finale. It was a great decision for Dan Levy to end the show with such a high note. I love all of their character developments and David's lines with Stevie while they were sitting on the car looking at David's future house really pierced my heart. It was truly indeed, a happy ending.
The folding in the cheese scene was my most favourite scene of all. Although, I do love me a bit of la-la-la-la-la-la a little bit Alexis
this show is my happy place and will always be.

My mother in law was watching this series and kept telling us how funny it was. She died suddenly in June. The show title made me roll my eyes but I decided to binge watch all 6 seasons. I LOVE this show. It doesn't seem like something my MIL would like but I guess we had more in common than I thought. We didn't get along so well. 😔💜
one of the things I admire the most about this show is the fact that it is rated TV-MA and has the leeway to get away with using as many curse words and F-bombs as possible. That in and of itself is such a rarity to see because they use the F-bomb so sparingly like 3 or four times per season. It shows a sense of maturity on their part to refrain from being lazy with their humor and to instead showcase the sharp and quick witty dialogue to get a good gag across without resorting to swearing every other second. This isn't the kind of show to ever have such low brow humor for the sake of being shocking or inappropriate and the fact that it stayed consistent with this form of writing to crank out quality material after quality material with complete originality just proves how this show is just that good.
One of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen. Catherine O’Hara is a comedy genius. Daniel Levy makes me laugh out loud, and Annie Murphy is so funny the way she plays with her hair all the time and always says “Ew David.” The entire cast is hilarious. But these 3 especially shine! 🤣🤣

Best comedy ever. My favourite was Alexis but David was a close second and the rest of the cast was totally beloved. I think I’m on my seventh run through. I love how Alexis makes these little sounds when she’s anxious. Mmhmm mmhmm mhmm, and how she boops people when she loves them. She’s so utterly adorable. “Like I’ll be there and my family will be here but I won’t be able to stop thinking about them”. Ted said “that’s called missing someone”. She’s learning about life and love like a toddler because she hasn’t had it before this and the inner world is opening up for her even though she’s been all over the physical world a lot of times.
How you know Eugene Levy is a comedy god: Him silently eating a sandwich is the funniest fucking thing in this entire video, lol

Like many others, one of the things I love the most about Schitt’s Creek is that it’s funny without being mean spirited all the time like shows like Two and a Half Men for example. It has it’s mean moments but they don’t get full on mean spirited like most comedies these days. It really puts a smile on my face every time I watch it.
I agree! I've recently seen a few episodes of "Two and a Half Men" and mean-spirted is exactly the way I think of it (Charlie Sheen's character). His laughs are always at someone else's expense, in a very snarky way. Not very enjoyable.
I just started watching this show and i am in love with it. Such great characters and I learn, at minimum, 5 new words PER episode. Love that Moira.

i like it when Alexis gets frustrated, David also, and Johnny looks confused or does that look. I like Moira's fashion taste and uses weird words to show emotion. I can relate to Stevie! Patrick was a sweet character.

My favorite show! What a wonderful cast and story line. I love how the characters continued to develop and how much love, acceptance and support there was for everyone in Schitt’s Creek. Loved all of the relationships. Thanks for helping me through the election - binged from November till the inauguration. On my third viewing and it gets better each time I watch it! Brilliant!

No, it ended beautifully. Dan and Eugene made a good decision to end it when they did. Now it will always be remembered as an amazing show from start to end, and not another show that just went on too long and ruined it in the end, like OITNB
David doesn't like kids though. And they say they never want kids.
