WOW!! TOTALLY FANTASTIC! I Just started to have an intetest in PBN for adults.. But I dislike the nonblending lines & colors that is notorious in some of these sets..I didnt realize how much improvements were made..Im a disabled Veteran.. Most of my hobbie interests require me to perform what my body cant anymore...and Im only 47! Please no sympathies. I just wanted you to know that Im excited about painting, and finding a hobbie that I cld expand in so many different ways.. Just found this old video. You have proficiency with the brush. I saw the date and couldn't help how we didn't know what was looming around the corner.
Oh, I know! It's so crazy how we just didn't know how our lives were about to change 😭 I think about that as well when I watch old flosstube videos from early 2020 and early lockdown when we all thought it would blow over in a couple of weeks. Nope!
Did this back in 2009--I enjoyed it. It was not too challenging--enjoy mixing paint! I always use the resalable pots--never know if you might miss a spot, or two!

You did a remarkable job! I didn't see how this was going to work out, but it looks really good. That was an extremely tedious project, but heck, so is cross stitch! Haha I am glad that you are getting to paint and learn another craft.
Thank you! It's not nearly as tedious as it looks and I found it to be super relaxing! Unlike that little balloon I just stitched, lol!

Something popped in my head to get a kit during this time. I have never done one, not even as a child. I don’t have a steady hand, but remain hopeful. Wish me luck.
You can do it! Just try to relax and I find that you really don't have to be perfect staying in the lines especially with things like foliage and and sky, etc. Take some creative liberties and make it your own. They are designed to look great even if you add your own style and imperfections. Have Fun! What kit did you get?

Wow. I've gotta say, I've seen those kits before and thought it was a bit of a sham lol. I've had plenty of painting experience, and couldn't see how it would work out. But this has really changed my mind - I'm actually really impressed that a decent picture can come out of it! I might even go and do one myself 😁 Thank you for the progression video, it really did amaze me.

Wow, your second painting ? Wow 👍 . I just started my first painting and it's far away from yours. Sometimes I think the coulour is a way to sticky, but I dont know whats the right viscosity 😭😭anyway , great video 👍 😀

I’ve been doing pbn’s since I was a teenager and it’s hard to believe that you recently started painting them. Bravo!!! You did a wonderful job on this lovely painting. It was very therapeutic watching you paint too. I loved how you did the large background sections first. I probably would have painted the birds first...as noted on my Instagram account... lol! Hi Tonya! Thank yo so much for stopping by to say Hi! I LOVED all the paintings you did on your IG and I was in awe at how detailed some of them were. I'll bet you have some tips to share with me after doing so many, and I'd love to hear any advice. I see you've done a variety of brands. May I ask which ones you like the best? So far I'm really impressed with Dimensions, but I've seen a website called MasterpieceBy Numbers dot com that has some beautiful ones. Have you tried one of theirs? Do you use an easel when you paint? I find that I can't really paint for too long or I get some neck strain. ( Maybe that just means I need to get up and clean house, lol!)
Calico Please forgive the delay🤗 Yes I would give Masterpiecebynumbers a try. I love their website and plan to order a customized kit soon. In my opinion Paintworks by Dimensions has the best kits that requires blending/ mixing paints. I recommend not your wasting time and money on Reeves and the smaller Royal & Langnickel kits. My absolute favorite no blending/ mixing kits are Schipper and Plaid Creates. Schipper costs a bit more but worth every penny. My family always surprise with them on holidays. 😉Please note that all of my recommendations kits are on art boards not canvas. There’s another company trending onCZcams called Winnie’s Picks that offers kits on canvas and customized kits, just send them a photo. I added them on my wish list. I usually order my kits online thru Herrschners, Oakridge Hobbies, Schipper Arts & Crafts and Mary Maxim. Locally at A.C. Moore and Hobby Lobby. These kits are so much better than the ones I did as teen😃 Happy crafting!!!
P.S. Tips...I have several different table sized easels that helps with neck strain. But I prefer to paint flat at my desk. I’m also thinking about buying one of those drafting tables that architects/artists use. Amazon sells a small paint mixer to help smooth out dried paint pots on “Badger Air Brush Co 121 Paint Mixer” $14. I use water & toothpicks to stir up thick/dried paint. You can also use toothpicks to paint really small areas that the brush can’t. I hope these tips helps. 🤗
Hi Tonya! thank you so much for the tips on kits and mixing paints, etc. I was just thinking to myself that a drafting table would be perfect! I agree about the Royal & Langnickel kits. I tried one of those first ( also made a video about it) and I wasn't impressed, lol! So when I moved on to the Dimensions, there was a world of difference. I'm already a huge fan of Dimensions because of their cross stitch kits, and they use the same artwork for quite a few of them. I've heard some youtubers mention Winnie's picks, but for now, I think I like the artboard ( except the warping drives me crazy!) I will give one of the Schipper and Plaid Creates kits a try and definitely the Masterpiece by number kits look gorgeous! You should make videos! :) Happy painting!

This was so fun to watch!!! I love how it turned out and you totally make me want to get mine out. 😍🎨 Thanks for showing how you mixed your colors and I like how you used a paper to protect your finished canvas while you were working. It was fun to see you color complete most of it. I think I would work in sections before, but I can see how it would be nicer to work all of a color if it’s blended. 👍🏻

It’s called “Venice evening.” It’s by a brand I’ve never heard of but it had some good reviews. I’m enjoying it so far but if I do another one I think I’ll look at dimensions.

Hi Christine! I hope 2020 is treating you well! What an amazing piece of art you created. I can’t believe it is only your second project. I can’t wait to see you paint more. This video wasn’t good for my stitching though because I just wanted to watch you paint! Loved the speed painting. I would absolutely love to try to do this again. My attempt several years ago did not end well. However, seeing you do this has pretty much confirmed that I couldn’t because not only am I way too heavy-handed but I am way too impatient! I would want to get it all done in one time and not wait for some parts to dry first! That is probably why my one and only attempt at paint by numbers was so bad! Lol! I think I had better stick to stitching. I did do my first ever needle felting this week though and it turned out okay. “Okay” being much better than the “terrible” I was expecting! Lol! @@sassybanjo3586 You can do it! Just take it one small area at a time and take your time. Try not to go fast. Someone pointed out to me that the paper copy is for practicing before you paint on the canvas. And don't worry if it's not perfect, it will still be beautiful even if you don't stay perfectly in the lines. Which one did you get?

The picture I got is of three mason jars with candles lighted and among the trees I believe is balls of light from fire flies and each of the jars has one word each: “Be A Light”.

I've had a few small plastic rectangular magnifiers supplied with PBN sets. They are x 3 magnification and work okay. However, I've taped 3 of them together to achieve a x 9 magnification and it works brilliantly :-)
Beautiful!! I've never done this.....I have one but am nervous to start. Read something about using something called Gesso before you start. Any thoughts on if that is necessary?
Thank you! Since I've only done a few of these kits, I can't offer much advice. It seems like the canvas board that comes in the Dimensions sets have already been prepped and are ready for paint. Gesso might be helpful with other kits. I'm still new to painting and can't offer more advice than that ☺️
The gray areas have no numbers. How do you know which color to use?
It's been awhile since I've done one of these, but if I remember correctly, the great areas are painted black
My paints were very clumpy. Did you have the same problem and if so what did you do to get rid of the clamps?
I don't recall the paint being lumpy, but I would imagine it will happen when they get old. Is yours a Dimensions kit? If so, I would bet that if you contact them, they may send you replacement paints. I would maybe check around the web to see if there are any tips on how to remedy clumpy acrylic paint. I wish I could help, but I'm still pretty new to the whole painting game. Keep me posted!
I got one from aliexpress and the canvas was rolled up the paint is acrylic any advice on how to to it ❤

I'm not sure about how to do the ones with the rolled canvas. The only ones I've done are the Kits by Dimensions.
Have you ever used acrylic paint pens for paint by numbers? I’m thinking of replacing the paint in my kit with pens. What do you think?
I have never tried the pain pens, so I can give any advice about that. It might be worth looking into. My only concern would be that it might be harder to match the colors, especially the ones that need to be blended.
@@calico_whimsy I thought of that too but a glob of each color can be added to a palette and mixed together and then painted on with a brush. I just think it would be less messy for the colors that don’t need to be mixed. I found a channel who used the pens on a canvas because the paints in the kit weren’t very good.
I would want to use pens with fine tips.

Hello, the plus is like an asterisk, it wants you to refer to info below the chart. In this case it's indicating that there are 2 paint pots of this color.

How can I make sure to get the hard board one and not the folded canvas? I really want to paint this picture for my wife.
As far as I know, all Dimensions Paintworks kits only come with a board, not a canvas. Hope that helps!

Hello! I responded to your other comment but you may not have seen it so I'll respond here, too. I know the numbers can be very small so maybe try the reading glasses that magnify the numbers? I usually like to lay the painting flat on the table so my hand is more stable. the more you practice the easier it gets. I would start with some easy kits that have bigger numbers until you get the hang of it. Good luck!

Not worth nearly 50 minutes of your time as you just watch her paint. Very little information about painting tips: she keeps mentioning that she is not a painter so maybe she should wait until she is. What she does paint looks very good. TMI on personal life.
The whole idea is fun.
