Big time respect and brotherly love for Pastor Evans. He IS an authentic man of God, a biblical expositor and a great pastor. He admitted his shortcoming and stepped down which I admire as well. Prayers for him and his lovely wife, his fam and the congregation. Jehovah is a God of restoration for all.

Being baptized into Christ, we have complete forgiveness and have passed from death to life. (Hoping you don’t mean that we’re forgiven successively through repenting of our sins as we go along)

I’m not quite sure I understand the “seek His forgiveness” part, when Believers are justified and have died to the law of sin and death (sin is not put to the Believer’s account). Is not Christ’s shed blood ALONE the propitiation for sin? IN CHRIST are we not complete and perfected? I do understand that Pastors are held to a standard, however. In that, I can understand his stepping aside for a time. God bless him.💕🙏🏼

Everyone in this thread has sinned. There is no big sin or little sin. Just the simple judgement your human mind took you to when you heard the news was sin for some. When you got angry with your co worker or the person in morning traffic you sinned. But how many stepped away and took steps to heal and recover. Mainly none. Most just kept right along with their lives. Dr Evans, you are human and the fear of God is so evident in your life. When I heard this I was shocked as well but I thank God for Pastor Evans doing what he would preach/teach to others, whatever the cost he is still one of and will always be one of my favorite teachers and preachers. Maybe he confessed and repented of the sin back then,but still is tempted from time to time and he doesn't feel free of it. It may not be a continual sin, but Scripture teaches us that a bishop, or pastor must be blameless and as he is older, he may have realized he will give an account for all things before too long and he wants to deal with the issue now, before he doesn't have that chance.... We don't know what the issue is, but he must obey his conscience before God. Man's opinion matters not.

It is our duty as believers to lift up Dr Tony Evans, not because he is on TV and radio, not because he is famous, but because we should be lifting up all of the Pastors unto God. There jobs are not easy, they have pressures on them that you could not even fathom in your abilities. It’s confusing if he sinned years ago why is he stepping down now. Shouldn’t he have done this years ago? What is the delay? Is there a blackmail coming up that is forcing him to confess and to step down ?this doesn’t make sense…why today?

Anytime a pastor steps down for a sin of the past and they don't expound on it. you know its not good. Its one thin to wait one month (that's a long time still) but to wait years and years and years, been preaching all these years and now the conviction has now hit your heart? I'm not buying it at the moment. you can see people commending him for this act. However, I believe this is something far worse than meets the eye. The Bible says judgement will start first in the House of the Lord and you're gonna start to see many of these prominent pastors being exposed for being frauds or having dirty laundry. We only see these men Once or twice a week in the pulpits. there's a lot of sin you can fit in 5 days. what's hidden will come to the light.
Whatever he has done, or thought, between him and God, he doesn't have to confess it to the world. But no matter what she did it's no worse than some of you with your judgmental attitude. You too should repent and ask for God forgiveness. It takes a man with great integrity with such a high reputation as Dr Tony Evans has to boldly admit he committed some sort of sin and he is taking time for his spirit to be restored. We don't go to church to worship the pastor, we go to church to worship the God, the only one true God, who is blameless and sinless. Imagine where any of us would be if it were not for the forgiveness of God.

He said a couple of years ago sometimes it takes time and the right circumstances for God to bring you to the position of repentance. And as they went, they were cleansed. Praying for Pastor Evans. The grace and mercies of the Lord meet him at his need. My father had a similar situation. My father was an amazing father to me, my dad brought me to Christ and i know and am known by Christ because of my father. My dad never knew his father, was a Vietnam vet and left home as a teen. He was/ is in recovery by Gods grace by the time I was born. Pops would catch the city bus rain or shine bringing his children to church (in between cars). In the rain, he’d cover the stroller with plastic (others would tell us this story as well as well my dad). I remember my dad praying for his family and others in shut ins in with our pastor and other members, whole weekends after working all week. 3 days from Friday night until Sunday morning complete fast. My dad was a hard worker (now retired) and never required anything from us only to help around the house and do well in school. He was my biggest fan in everything: academics, sports, nursing school graduate, etc. At night, when I would have nightmares, I went to my dad and he prayed for me and I would rest. My earliest recollection of the power prayer was my dad’s prayers. He was there always. He was there for me and even through he is estranged because spiritual warfare is real, I bless him. I can respect this. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. ALL of us. But pastors and church leaders are held to a high standard, to be in their positions. The Bible makes this very clear and it warns those who don't fear the wrath of God and obey the very clearly outlined instructions for the church in these situations. It sounds like Pastor Evans does fear the Lord and is getting himself right according to the Word before he continues leading a congregation. I'd far rather see this than the utterly outrageous behavior of so-called pastors like JP Miller.

Well..nobody knew about anything until He opened his mouth....so it's not like anybody is searching for information...but he's a heretic and his daughter isn't a preacher called of God..
Between him and God?!?!? No ma’am/sir. What ever he does impacts the entire body as he is part of the body of Christ and the family of God. A pastor is held to a higher standard. Homosexuality is also not criminal but is an abomination. As Christians sin (disobedience to God) is what God hates. It brings shame to the name. So it’s not just between him And God.
Pray church! Pastor Evans nobody can speak up for me. First I wanna thank you for who you are in the body of Christ. And I know who you are because the kind of courage that they took (Pastor Benny and others) says volumes about your character. If evangelicals have not learned anything out of this lesson, this should be applied to the fact that nobody is above the law, nobody is above above THE WORD. As a baby pastor and comparison to you, this will be one of the greatest life lessons that I have ever witnessed as a testament to who truly are and what you’ve written. I THANK YOU! And I’m going to put here a warning to anyone reading this that decided that they wanted to take a piece of this man. WOE to anybody who tries to put their foot on the neck of a repentant person. I want to remind you. It’s in your Bible that if you do, it’ll be better for you to put a stone around your neck, your neck and be cast into the 🌊 sea. I don’t know, that sounds like something you would not want to encounter. But here is what I will say to you that the Holy Spirit said he’s not concerned about the people that they’re deciding to take apart, a broken heart and a contrite spirit. I've never visited his church but as an over the road trucker I have listened to his messages daily. He has been a solid part of my spiritual life for almost 25 years.
He's doing everything biblical. He is and has always been a man of integrity. Many have been blessed over the years. the body needs to lift up their brother as if he were their own.

Doesn’t sound like that at all. He could’ve done something as simple as having sex before his new marriage and it weighed on him and eventually he couldn’t take that he didn’t ask for repentance.
I think it's concerning that it took "several years to confess". That's several years that he was hardening his heart to the conviction of the Holy Spirit and several years that he was ministering as an unrepentant sinner. It does sound like he was about to be exposed, which God will some times do as a show of mercy. Unfortunately, if it's to the point He has to discipline you publicly there may be more worldly than godly sorrow, and that can be dangerous. We should pray that he is intend restored God's way and that the Spirit works through whatever the process is he mentioned that the elders oversee.
He got married in December and he is now stepping down because of a sin that is not criminal. A sin he committed years ago? The Elders have got involved in this? This wasn't a harmless sin.
There is no harmless sin, all sins harm God's people and His reputation. Remember ye who have no sin cast the first stone. All have fallen short, no one is perfect.

Maybe he confessed and repented of the sin back then,but still is tempted from time to time and he doesn't feel free of it. It may not be a continual sin, but Scripture teaches us that a bishop, or pastor must be blameless and as he is older, he may have realized he will give an account for all things before too long and he wants to deal with the issue now, before he doesn't have that chance.... We don't know what the issue is, but he must obey his conscience before God. Man's opinion matters not.

2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
It is our duty as believers to lift up Dr Tony Evans, not because he is on TV and radio, not because he is famous, but because we should be lifting up all of the Pastors unto God. There jobs are not easy, they have pressures on them that you could not even fathom in your abilities. I pray for God's mercy upon every Minister of the Gospel past, present and future unto the glory of our Most High and Sovereign God and Father in Jesus mighty name. Amen and Amen!

It’s confusing if he sinned years ago why is he stepping down now. Shouldn’t he have done this years ago? What is the delay? Is there a blackmail coming up that is forcing him to confess and to step down ?this doesn’t make sense…why today?

Anytime a pastor steps down for a sin of the past and they don't expound on it. you know its not good. Its one thin to wait one month (that's a long time still) but to wait years and years and years, been preaching all these years and now the conviction has now hit your heart? I'm not buying it at the moment. you can see people commending him for this act. However, I believe this is something far worse than meets the eye. The Bible says judgement will start first in the House of the Lord and you're gonna start to see many of these prominent pastors being exposed for being frauds or having dirty laundry. We only see these men Once or twice a week in the pulpits. there's a lot of sin you can fit in 5 days. what's hidden will come to the light.

Whatever he has done, or thought, between him and God, he doesn't have to confess it to the world. But no matter what she did it's no worse than some of you with your judgmental attitude. You too should repent and ask for God forgiveness. It takes a man with great integrity with such a high reputation as Dr Tony Evans has to boldly admit he committed some sort of sin and he is taking time for his spirit to be restored. We don't go to church to worship the pastor, we go to church to worship the God, the only one true God, who is blameless and sinless. Imagine where any of us would be if it were not for the forgiveness of God.

He said a couple of years ago sometimes it takes time and the right circumstances for God to bring you to the position of repentance. And as they went, they were cleansed. My father had a similar situation. My father was an amazing father to me, my dad brought me to Christ and i know and am known by Christ because of my father. My dad never knew his father, was a Vietnam vet and left home as a teen. He was/ is in recovery by Gods grace by the time I was born.
Pops would catch the city bus rain or shine bringing his children to church (in between cars). In the rain, he’d cover the stroller with plastic (others would tell us this story as well as well my dad). I remember my dad praying for his family and others in shut ins in with our pastor and other members, whole weekends after working all week. 3 days from Friday night until Sunday morning complete fast. My dad was a hard worker (now retired) and never required anything from us only to help around the house and do well in school. He was my biggest fan in everything: academics, sports, nursing school graduate, etc. At night, when I would have nightmares, I went to my dad and he prayed for me and I would rest. My earliest recollection of the power prayer was my dad’s prayers. He was there always.
He was there for me and even through he is estranged because spiritual warfare is real, I bless him. Praying God’s help and mercies for men/ leaders everywhere.

I can respect this. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. ALL of us. But pastors and church leaders are held to a high standard, to be in their positions. The Bible makes this very clear and it warns those who don't fear the wrath of God and obey the very clearly outlined instructions for the church in these situations. It sounds like Pastor Evans does fear the Lord and is getting himself right according to the Word before he continues leading a congregation. I'd far rather see this than the utterly outrageous behavior of so-called pastors like JP Miller.

Pray church! Pastor Evans nobody can speak up for me. First I wanna thank you for who you are in the body of Christ. And I know who you are because the kind of courage that they took (Pastor Benny and others) says volumes about your character. If evangelicals have not learned anything out of this lesson, this should be applied to the fact that nobody is above the law, nobody is above above THE WORD. As a baby pastor and comparison to you, this will be one of the greatest life lessons that I have ever witnessed as a testament to who truly are and what you’ve written. I THANK YOU!

I've never visited his church but as an over the road trucker I have listened to his messages daily. He has been a solid part of my spiritual life for almost 25 years.
He's doing everything biblical. He is and has always been a man of integrity. Many have been blessed over the years. the body needs to lift up their brother as if he were their own.
Who knows a man’s heart, but God. Pray for our spiritual leaders.

Doesn’t sound like that at all. He could’ve done something as simple as having sex before his new marriage and it weighed on him and eventually he couldn’t take that he didn’t ask for repentance.
I think it's concerning that it took "several years to confess". That's several years that he was hardening his heart to the conviction of the Holy Spirit and several years that he was ministering as an unrepentant sinner. It does sound like he was about to be exposed, which God will some times do as a show of mercy. Unfortunately, if it's to the point He has to discipline you publicly there may be more worldly than godly sorrow, and that can be dangerous. We should pray that he is intend restored God's way and that the Spirit works through whatever the process is he mentioned that the elders oversee.
