A Handful of 30 Million Year Old Fossil Whale Teeth

- We found a pond with really good Chandler Bridge formation exposed. We found the usual assortment of nice shark teeth but this spot had quite a few fossil whale teeth, too. Always fun to find find those - it was a period of time where whales were evolving rapidly so there is a lot to be learned from intact skulls. Unfortunately I didn't find a skull this time around, but there were enough teeth to make me think there was one somewhere!
this is the first time in my life i feel addicted to something iv'e never actually experienced. freaking awesome
You prolly dont care but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can watch all of the new movies on Instaflixxer. Been streaming with my girlfriend lately :)
@Tristian Brixton Definitely, I have been watching on InstaFlixxer for since november myself :)
I love your videos! Completely addicted. The bond between you and your son is what every parent dreams of, too!!
Thank you!!
blackriverfossils do you do paid excursions? We are coming to SC in October and have only found a website for LowCountry Excursions. For some reason I thought that when I first started watching years ago, you did private excursions? Thanks!
You boys know your shark teeth like most fishermen know their lures.
I used to go to a little SC beach with my best friend and her family to hunt for fossils. These videos remind me of how much I miss those trips
Brittany Robertson I live 15 minutes from the beach in SC. I find all kinds of shark teeth. There's 1 thing i use to find a lot of as a kid, I don't see anymore ; we called them "angel wings". They had a rainbow shimmer, kinda fragile & they would be open kinda like an oblong clam shell, yet very thin. They was beautiful. I don't find many sand dollars or starfish anymore. 8/
Nice, nice, nice, and after all these years I thought my Fla. Gulf Coast beach finds were a prize. Well you sure pulled me down off of my pedestal. But at least the one thing nobody can take away from the find, is the satisfying thrill of it at the time. Now every time my great grandchildren, just as my grandchildren ask to see my 40 yr. collection I get the same thrill educating them on the fossils and telling them about how much fun I had in the finds. If I show them your videos they're going to say, "Where's the beach Grandpa!".
anything we can do to get our kids outside and active is a good thing. your grandkids will never forget the hunt or the time y'all spent together. thanks for the message!
these teeth are so good looking
Please post more!!!!! I love your videos.
My kids would love to join you, they have so much passion for hunting fossils. We went out to the Aurora and found amazing pieces. We collected some great finds and just had a blast. IF you ever desire for us to join you, it would be so much fun. Thanks for your snap shots of discovery, how awesome to watch.
Do you think that primitive man may have got the idea of how to make spear and arrow heads from those ? They look very close
No because these fossils take very long to form and are pretty difficult to find. Primitive men used mostly flint for arrowheads etc
He is talking about the Idea ,if you knew arrowheads you would get what he is talking about and Daniel Yost i thought the same thing
Thanks!You too!
8:23 That's what she said
Beautiful finds mate you got quite the haul that day
I love your videos, keep it great!
Saludos desde México
You have 3 teeth upper left top row from l-r they would be 4,5&6 I don't believe they are angustiden but they may well be auriculatus instead look at the bulbous root lobes the are more rounded.
Could you speak english

Was this pond a retention pond like you see near development areas or was it maybe someone you know that happened to be digging to make a pond on private property?

where you find this stuff
3:07 looks like there's routes to a Meg to the left of the tooth you just pulled
thanks
hay I no I ask in your other video can your tell me were that place is
I would really like know where to find teeth?
The scientific name in this video messed up my brain 🙄
how many did you find there
That’s a sweet one for sure ridiculous 6
Hey, I have a few questions.
How long did you look for all this at that location?
How are you able to identify lots of shark teeth and other fossils as soon as you see them?
A few of the fossils looked like they were just on the surface. How often does this happen, and why?
I've never dug for fossils, but I want to sometime.
we dug a few hours a time over a few days. i can id my finds quickly because I've been hunting for a while and I have seen most of it before. The fossils on the surface were put there by machines to be used as building pads. That said, there are places around where the fossil layer is close to the surface so you can find fossils exposed like this naturally. See my creek hunting videos for examples of that.
Okay, thanks!
Did you sell those teeth?
What state is this in?
Jack .Stravinsky same
Jack .Stravinsky catch up for the chicken and catch up for the potatoes
Jack .Stravinsky I think California

hey my friend, do know about fossil places in brazil??? and how do you know where the teeth are??
i am sorry i don't know about fossil spots in brazil but I'm sure there must be some. Chile and Peru have some of the best fossil deposits on the planet so i think Brazil must too.
How come you guys don’t upload anymore?
Where was this?
They say that the teeth can still be sharp. Have you ever been cut? I was stationed in South Carolina a while ago. If I knew there were so many teeth I would have gone looking myself.
some of them are still very sharp and yes I have been cut! usually its
while using a screen in filthy water and I'm running my fingers across
the gravel to get the mud out.
Where can u find shark teeth?
Where is this?
You found some sweet megladon teeth
Those razor clams might be phosphorescent!

Man that spot is rich. Finds.

What kind of shark is a Angestiden? Please answer the name of it.
its an ancestor of the megalodon shark. The equivalent of a grandfather.
Is this place public
where do you find thoes
Florida
You should find 10 toes on your feet.
where do you put the teeth
I use display cases, riker mounts, map drawers, bins, boxes, and all kinds of other things for storage.
hello have a question can you not find sea urchin
because i think saw somthing thats looking like it in the video :D
+joshua vd jagt urchins can be found in my area in the limestone quarries but not in the location where this video was shot. What you saw was most likely a clam cast. They were everywhere!
oke wel yea maybe haha :P
+TheReaperMC they have been washing up on the beach up there in NC lately. else, people dive for megs off Wilmington all the time. its deep though.
+TheReaperMC all you can do is go places where they have been found and look carefully when the conditions are right.
Nice video! I'm in Florida right now. @ the peace river finding 2 inch hemis
Jealous! We moved out of FL last year and we loved searching Peace River for fossils.

It takes a LOT of exploration.

how do you find places like this that have fossils?
research and exploration
Wish i could find fossils like that in britain
You can, visit cornwall
Hello. What species of whale was it?
Those are Ankylorhiza tiedemani
I find these things by the hundreds at work, I can stand in one spot and find like 100 in many 10 minutes
Total Mayhem Custom Knives where the heck is that possible? The US? What state? I’m wanting to get my kids into this stuff some day.
For kids the best places are Purse Beach near Indian Head ,Maryland, Stratford Hall or Westmoreland State Park in Virginia, And Aurora , North Carolina (the piles at the fossil museum on Main Street). The Maryland and North Carolina sites are free but not the Virginia sites.
Would you be willing go put these finds up for sale?

Wow
How do you know where to go to find sharks teeth?
+WhoDat Boss I just look around until I find the right deposits when I'm searching for new locations.
I mean like where might you search like near creaks, lakes, etc.
+WhoDat Boss anywhere there is erosion going on is a good place to check. Creeks, ditches, streams, ponds, quarries, dig sites, rivers, road cuts, etc.
Thank you
Откуда их столько?
Where are you ? What country , what State , what county ? What is the elevation ? Try not to scratch them up . To bad your destroying them as you get them .
No megs?
