    I can smash home runs all day with an effortless swing with palm up, to the point of lead foot, then exaggerated turn over. This also prevents "swinging for the fence" slumps. Quick turnover just prior to contact greatly increases bat speed.. Unless you actually feel what I'm talking about, you'll never know.. but if I didn't have my swing, I'd adopt something like this.

    Hey coach Justin love the videos keep them up they help me with my 11 year old but his problem seems to be when he swings he's more upright he doesn't really pull his left shoulder out but he swings from a more straight up position instead of keeping his left shoulder kind of dip and driving his body through the ball when he swings I'm struggling to fix it I don't know if you have any pointers on that thank you preciate your time God bless. He he bats right-handed I hope that made sense on how I described his hitting

    • @UltimateBaseballTraining
      @UltimateBaseballTraining  Před 6 lety +1

      I think I understand what you mean! It seems like he's probably not allowing his front shoulder to lower in his load and then not letting his back shoulder lower when he actually swings. I'd make sure he understands that you don't actually swing "level." He's probably trying to do that which is why he's so upright. Instead, you have to have a good spine angle and some tilt. Show him the thumbnail on this video... the picture of me on the left with the green checkmark is the way he wants to look at contact. My right shoulder is lower than my left and I've got tilt! Definitely not swinging level.

    Your demonstrations are great! How can I help a 12yo little league player who can hit homers and hard line drives all day in practice but frequently strike out in games. Maybe a drill to simulate fast pitches without a pitching machine is the answer or are there other factors at play? Thanks for all the great advice you provide.

    • @UltimateBaseballTraining
      @UltimateBaseballTraining  Před 6 lety

      I doubt that the fast pitches are the issue, unless you can clearly see that he is late on the fastball. It probably has to do with a combination of things. If he's trying to always hit home runs, he could be pulling off the ball. He might not have the proper mental approach at the plate. He might not fully understand how to protect the plate and battle with two strikes. Why do you think he strikes out? Is there anything that really stands out?

    • @cydmarantis
      @cydmarantis Před 6 lety

      Ultimate Baseball Training He sometimes swings too early because he has a quick bat. Sometimes he is swings over the ball. He will foul one right field and foul one left field with the same pitcher. He has really good form, is a lefty. He says he just tries to put the bat on the ball because he knows he can easily hit it out of that park but almost always misses first pitch at bat in games.

    I have a question. Why would you teach contact with a tee up ball over the middle of the plate? Seems late to me. A pitch in that location of the plate would need to be attacked in front of the plate to get the most power and best lift...thoughts

      First off if you are catching you will have bad knees - this is from 20+ years experience :). A couple of things you can do to help out are as follows:
      Develop your quad muscles (thighs with squats with weights, deadlifts with a trap bar, and straight leg raises. Get an ankle weight 5-10 lbs, and do front raises, side raises, and rear raises to work and develop all of the synergistic muscles around the knee to get them stronger.
      Your stance with nobody on base should be one where your feet are wider and knees brought in close where your butt close to the ground. This will take the strain off your knees and place it on your thighs and hips. This helped me out a lot.

  • @rickleesma
    @rickleesma Před 5 lety

    I feel like my son hits ground balls because he is hitting the ball too far in front of the plate most of the time. People are always telling him that it is this mechanic movement or that. I think it is hard to extend the arms after contact when he does this because it it easier to roll over or swipe through the swing when you are out front too far. People in the stands automatically assume that if you hit it to the right side that you were late on it. If you watch it in slow mo, most of the time he is actually still out front too far, but on an outside pitch. With no extension he just swipes through and the ball and it glances off the bat to the right. If this happens a lot, is this caused from timing mainly or mechanics? I feel bad timing always causes bad mechanics. We always watch the great players hitting home runs and rarely study their bad hits. Their mechanics always seem perfect when they hit a dinger. If you watch them get fooled on a pitch and hit it too far out front and ground out then their mechanics look terrible. I want drills that focus on timing mechanisms. I see so many kids with perfect looking swings because of all the instruction they have had but they can't hit worth a damn because they can't read the pitch and time it up. I wish someone would master this timing different pitching deliveries and being on time thing. I know that is what natural hitters can do but can it be taught? With the ability to break it down in such detailed slow motion it looks like we could teach a kid to a least get a letter better at it. It is a shame to see a young kid that can hit the ball 400 feet but just can't seem to figure out the timing mechanism against live pitching consistently. I think when timing and decent mechanics come together you get an above average hitter. Any response to this ridiculously long post is appreciated.
