  • 20,000 of us fall ill with food poisoning every week. We need protection. Call The Food Inspectors.
A series presented by Matt Allwright and Chris Hollins following the work of the Food Inspectors, as they protect the nation from rogue restaurants and poisonous food. In this episode, Matt investigates the huge countywide problem of bootleg booze. Would you able to spot a fake bottle of plonk, or vodka with dangerously high levels of industrial alcohol?
And did you know the majority of food poisoning happens at home? Chris teams up with Food Inspector Ben Milligan and drops in on an unsuspecting family at mealtime.
Are they cooking clean, or risking their health with bad food hygiene?
Also the team take on the owner of an Indian restaurant who thinks he knows best, and Chris dishes the dirt on one of the most evil types of bacteria around.

The fact that a woman addicted to cleaning prefers to throw away a mini oven that she clearly let to get totally dirty shows that OCD is a disease, not a simple behavior. It's not rational, there's no logic to it, just the compulsion.

I thought that was so strange! Even if she wanted to throw it away after a few months anyway, I don't understand how she could tolerate having anything so gross and dirty in her otherwise spotless house and why the compulsion doesn't extend to that item.

Why doesn't she at least donate them, when I was without an oven for a month would have gladly cleaned it out to be able to use it. Plenty of people out there with no oven and that do not have the available funds to buy one would have been grateful even if they had to clean it. Such a waste.

@@MHGKarma I would just like to point out that OCD isn’t logical - it is an illness and it warps your thinking. Those other options may not be viewed as ‘safe’ by someone with OCD, and it is very difficult to change your ways. Of course I agree the waste and environmental impact of some of these behaviours isn’t great, it would be something that a person with OCD would need to really work at and most likely have serious therapy to address in order to change some of these habits. It isn’t a simple issue, but these people don’t need to be judged as selfish and their actions inexcusable when they are struggling everyday with an internal battle and just doing what they can. Also the individual impact of these few obsessive people pales in comparison to the environmental impact of industries, especially the textile sector. Yes individuals can try to address their own impact, but I’m sick of the blame being put on the individual instead of the large companies that create the bulk of our waste and actually have the money to implement large scale change. Anyway, sorry this turned into two rants, just wanted to encourage some empathy for these human beings who aren’t perfect but doing their best. Hope you have a lovely day 😊

I have OCD and grew up in a hoarder’s house. It either manifests as the need to be neat and get things done or the feeling you need objects around to be valuable, or that you don’t deserve clean/ nice good things and kind people as partners in my case. Cleaning up literally feels like something I don’t deserve that I will be punished for, that will threaten my life. Imagine walking down a narrow lane at midnight where you see muggers and r@pists lurking. That sensation of dread and fear is what I get when I try to clean, better myself in any way or have a romantic relationship with a non bully. I simply feel it’s wrong and I shouldn’t be doing it, that I am genuinely in danger. I choose to have my home clean, my body clean, brush my teeth, have a clean bed, make sure my childrens beds are clean, hair brushed etc. all things that weren’t done for me in childhood. I was convinced by parents i was worthless. I am 38 and I have recently cut those toxic individuals out of my life.

The laziness of many men in and outside of relationships regarding domestic cores and child raising is just crazy. No wonder so many relationships fail. Laziness on it's own is one thing but when certain people of one gender just expects the other to do their work for them (like Mark and Carl) then the problem becomes closer to entitlement and sexism than laziness.

There's far too many adults who have a complete shock when they haven't got their mums to clean up after them. I also believe the old rhetoric that cleaning is a "woman's job" is harmful. I somehow get how this can happen. When I am off I often do not have the energy to collect the old stuff together, bring it into order to select what can be sold and what can go to charity or thrown away. Older people not familiar to the options the internet provides nowadays have it way harder I suppose. However I have something like a mess stopping point. There is just this point when something insides me tells me that I will go crazy if I step on another lego brick or have to start washing dishes before I cook. And that's the point when no matter what the whole flat needs to be cleaned up to sparkle and shine. Ironically I do less of real big clean-ups since I started watching these series. I see these hoarders and I just need to clean something right after so to not let it get so far ever. Gonna go and give my bathroom a makeover right now.

One of my mom's friends had OCD to such extent that if she would wake up at night and the bottom sheet would not stand straight she would wake up her husband in the middle of the night so she can make the bed perfectly. She actually ended up seeing a therapist and they managed to sort her out. Now when she thinks about it she cannot believe she used to do that.

Some of these OCD cleaners give me ''I used to be addicted to drugs but now I'm not and I clean to take my mind off the drugs'' vibes..

How wasteful just throwing out her mini oven when it gets dirty to just buy a new one 🙄

Both these houses are being lived in by adult children. It's absolutely bizarre.

Clearly for these men, bachelor status is not out of choice.

I can't help but think how much untapped potential, when I see people in that situation. If he took care of his house, and his health, maybe brushed up his style a bit. He would be so much happier, and probably wouldn't be a bachelor for that long. Makes me itch to help people like that, lol, to help them realise their potential, I guess. To bring out that beauty that is being hidden away (and I am talking about both health, physical beauty, and the inner beauty that radiate from a truly happy, healthy and balanced person). Help them see themselves in a different light.
