Hey Guys, welcome to a brand new video. This week we have taken ourselves on a self guided tour on the famous Ha Giang Loop! We are pretty under prepared and let's just say A LOT went wrong.
None the less, the beautiful scenery, kind hearted locals and a little adventure made for an epic 4 days of exploring! We are left astonished with mother natures beauty and couldn't recommend doing this on your trip to Vietnam.... Watch this video before coming and learn from our MANY mistakes haha.

Oh & we should probably introduce ourselves...
We are Benny and Meeka, a travel couple from Australia who have been travelling on and off for 10 years and even lived in the UK from 2019 - 2021.
We are currently in SE Asia and are making our way back to the UK to reunite with our Mercedes Sprinter van we purchased before the world shut down and we left back to Aus.
About 3 months ago we decided to document our travels as we make our way across the globe, so join us for the ride.

wow! i have been watching many you tubers in vietnam for some time. your camera and drone camera has some of the clearest and true color views i have seen. the ones with the mid low hanging clouds are epic. it is the best loop video i have seen for all those factors. thanks

welcome to Vietnam, a beautiful country with a rich history, many monuments, beautiful natural landscapes, Vietnamese people, kind, selfless, friendly, hospitable... but also very fierce and strong, the geographical position has created rich weather patterns for Vietnam. The north has 4 seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, but the South has only 2 seasons, Rain & sunshine, Vietnam is not The same rich and diverse in weather and culture, street food is delicious, nutritious, cheap... all the people are always satisfied and happy compared to the previous hardships they have gone through, they are always optimistic about the bright future of the country in the next 5 to 10 years....wish you all a happy stay at the South Institute and many good memories,

You captured some amazing sceneries, for sure, but you did miss a few spots such as the Skywalk, which I believe entails riding a narrow, sketchy trail...but always a rush to see people do it (Paddy Doyle did it in video #6 when he was motorbiking across Northern Vietnam). And yes, it's always awesome to see the views up top as well as the views below from the river.

Have you managed to fly drone at Ban Gioc Waterfalls? There is a sign saying flying drone is prohibited. There's probably similar sign on the Chinese side but Chinese tourists ignored it and large number of drones were flown over the waterfalls. I've seen pictures of Vietnamese police pointing special anti-drone guns at the drones to force them to land on Vietnamese soil. The guns, developed in Vietnam, use radio waves or something to disrupt the drones, mess up their GPS signals and force them to land on the Vietnamese side. Chinese tourists complained that their drones are confiscated by Vietnamese border police.

So exciting to see a self organised trip! Thinking of doing the same, but seen lots about police fines! How did you find doing this self guided, organising it all, setting a route, hiring bikes etc? Also, wondered if you have a sense of how much it cost in total? Im Weighing up the cost of a tour vs self guided🤔 thank you!
Hey there 🤗 it really was a trip of a life time, we loved it! We didn’t have any run ins with the police luckily. ( we were super worried as well) we found it super easy doing it in our own. We just researched online the places we wanted to visit and added it to our offline google map. We hired a bike from the hostel we stayed at ( the morning of) it was pretty cheap. With the bike, accommodation, food, fuel etc I’d say no more than a few hundred dollars. Sorry we don’t have a exact figure but was extremely affordable. Hope this helps, you will have a great time either way 🫶

Hello, how exciting! You do need to have a driving permit in Vietnam to be legal but we never got pulled over by the police
Did you encounter any police check points along the way? And can i know where you rented your bike from?
did they offer vegan options? tips for doing the loop as a vegan?
Not to many vegan options TBH! We had peanut butter bahn mi, chips, fried rice and that was about it 🤣

Me and my gf are planning on doing the loop next week we want to go solo without a tour group, how did you go with the police checkpoints? Do you have a motorbike license?

We didn’t have a motorcycle license and we didn’t come across any check points! I think it’s just luck of the draw, but most ppl are totally fine 🙏🏽

It's a question of luck guy . If you don't have an international motorbike license and get caught there by the police , you have to pay a heavy fine or your motorbike will be impounded right away
If you go with a tour group, the guides will ride ahead to see if the police are there before they sneak all those without an IDP and motorcycle license through. Most people get away with it, but keep in mind, the US, Canada, Australia and those from countries that didn't sign the 1968 Vienna Convention cannot technically ride/drive there legally.
