    I like the fact that the upgrades section isn't immediately $200 cards. Most budget deck tech have their upgrades section feature stuff like mana crypt and cavern of souls, which make any deck great but not before burning a hole in your wallet.

    • @TheCommandersQuarters
      @TheCommandersQuarters  Před 5 lety +24

      100% agree! Yeah I am not going to recommend a card in the reasonable upgrades, that I actually wouldn't consider buying myself.

      @lucasguido5688 Před 5 lety +8

      The Commander's Quarters it's cool, but another section like "expensive upgreades" Will be good, with cards that have a great interaction with the deck, no cards like mana crypt or senseis divining top... Those cards are useful in all commander decks. Cool video, so much thanks!

    Fun rules interaction for Pernicious Deed - pay 0 for X to kill only tokens if someone is swarming. Thought I'd share since many don't know or think of that.

      But be careful of destroying your own 0 cost artifacts, did that once to my everflowing chalice by accident though it does allow you to multi-kick it for more later on in a Muldrotha deck.

    There is one card that is just PERFECT for this deck, I don't think you've included it : Demon Apocalypse. His power and toughness are equal to the number of cards in the graveyard AND you have to sacrifice a creature to untap it. This is just incredible, with a chupacabra for example !

      Same. My Muldrotha deck was really just my first ever Commander deck that I threw together with what I had in my collection. I've been waiting for an opportunity to throw a few more budget cards in there for a decent deck rather than the miserable state it's currently writhing in. I'll be doing some ordering, but lucky for me I think I'm going to be able to keep my list under $20 because I already have a few of these cards, and I plan to keep other cards in. A.) Because it fits my playstyle, and B.) Because I don't believe in pure netdecking.

      Of course! The Professor and SBMTG, I like that you all champion budget gaming. Magic can be expensive on the competitive level and this can intimidate players, by being able to play budget anybody can enjoy the game. To me this is very important cause while I do have a competitive Modern deck I also am able to enjoy the more casual formats, heck on a strictly fun level I like casual formats more!

    A couple of cards I've been knocking around for Muldrotha are Mortivore and Sewer Nemesis. Mortivore is like Splinterfright without the mill and Mortivore is a little more pricey ($1.50) but you can choose yourself and it will grow the more you cast.

    I like using Vampire Hexmage and Legacy's Allure in Muldrotha. Hexmage can remove counters from sagas so you can keep them on the battlefield before they pop or have a repeatable planeswalker killer. Allure is repeatable creature stealing, albeit a little slow.

    Awesome vids man, really helpful! I got myself the anthology 2 mimeoplasm deck and got some upgrades for it.
    Some cards people can consider: greenseeker and compulsion are both great ways of progressing your engine; dakmor salvage and stinkweed imp will mill you out in no time (golgari grave troll as well); monastery siege works really well as it basically draws you two cards; havengul lich as a little proxy of muldrotha if you can't get her out; grimoire of the dead is a neat little card that can turn the tide for you if your opponets don't deal with it; steel hellkite is also something I got, but I might replace it with pernicious deed; and mulldrifter is a must in any recursion deck!

    Wow man, awesome video! I have been playing magic for 5-6 years, but I never really got into commander until a couple of weeks ago. My first (and only deck for now) is U/B phenax graveyard/mill deck. It works great in 1v1, but not so much in 3 or 4 player commander. I mean, it is kind of a mill deck after all 😂. Anyway, this deck tech is great. I might adopt it and add a few cards from the U/B deck just to see what will happen. I really enjoy your budget videos man and I look forward to seeing your channel grow!

    • @TheCommandersQuarters
      @TheCommandersQuarters  Před 5 lety +3

      Definitely considered all of those cards! I didn't end up including them for various reasons. Mending shuffles your graveyard back into your library, and the lands that I'd gain from that didn't outweigh then loss of my graveyard. Instants and Sorceries I stayed away from since I wanted to focus on permanents to ensure that everything could be cast out of my graveyard. Excavator is a great card, but was too pricey for the budget!

    Although not necessarily cheap, Seedborn Muse/Prophet of Kruphix and Vedalken Orrery make excellent upgrades. With Orrery out, you can play more cards of each permanent type per turn cycle, but when combined with Muse/Prophet, EVERY turn is your turn. If you manage to combine this with Mindslaver, you can quickly outnumber everybody. Controlling every one else and just forcing them to kill each other at record speeds.

    I just found 2 fantastic lands that are super cheap and provide a lot of protection for muldrotha:
    Safe Have - Land - $0.25:
    2, Tap: Remove target creature you control from the game. At the beginning of your upkeep, you may sacrifice Safe Haven. If you do, return each card removed from the game with Safe Haven to play under its owner's control.
    Endless Sands - Land - $0.19:
    Tap: Add C to your mana pool.
    2, Tap: Exile target creature you control.
    4, Tap: Sacrifice Endless Sands: Return each creature card exiled with Endless Sands to the battlefield under its owner's control.

    The next set will offer so many options with Surveil to put cards into graveyard instead of on bottom, and some awesome golgari legends. Oh, also that under-whatevery keyword ability would work for the deck too.

    Hey Mitch! So I loved this deck tech most of all and already had a Muldrotha so I figured I’d build one and put a little spin on it here and there. One thing I found is an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE for the reasonable upgrades, Helm of the Host. If you use the original Muldrotha’s graveyard play up on MP1 then make the token on combat, on MP2 you can use token Muldrotha’s graveyard play. Rinse and repeat every following turn for an absolute nightmare of a board for your friends!

    I built this deck in its base form. Then added the suggested improvements. I love to play it. I've made a few tweaks. I found the one planeswalker was a bit fragile and I didn't get enough out of it. Yeah, it would be nice to pull it out again and again. I swapped it out for Pattern of Rebirth. Animate dead lets me pull creatures from graveyards, but not all the cards I want are there. I like to pull what I need. I like to get something like Sidisi, Undead Vizier. Then the sky's the limit! I also added Yavimaya Hollow. I bought a lot of cards during Urza's block. Its not a cheap card. It does, however, give you one more way to protect your commander.
    Thanks again CC!

    i am a experienced muldrotha player and on a much higher budget, but i say you did a great job on this one! The only thing i missed a lot on the build is more artifact and enchantment removal, as a graveyard deck, theres a lot of stuff that stops your recursion and you should probably get more answers, also since your strategy favors the a long game, you should be disrupting your opponents on that way.

    Something really old that you missed was Vanishing. True, it takes up a lot of blue, but a lot of cards in this list already do a fair amount with specific colored mana, so it shouldn't be that bad, especially with the level of ramp. Anyway, since Muldrotha is more or less only useful on our own turn, Vanishing ensures that you get to keep Muldrotha safe from absolutely everything, if you don't mind looking up the rulings on phasing. And best part? A played version of this card is a dime, near mint is a quarter. Hooray for obscurity!

    After the release of Guilds of Ravnica I think vraska, golgari queen and izoni, thousand-eyed make great additions to the deck. Vraska is a bit on the expensive side but izoni is only a dollar give or take. Implement of Examination makes a good reoccurring card draw card as well.
