Distance Challenge: Hyzer Flip with an understable disc vs Flex Shot with an overstable disc
W idea
this one
THIS
Great idea.
Difference between a hyzer flip and a flex shot?
The “nice shot” segment had me dying!!! 😂😂
This sounds like a really good series starting. Cant wait
They kinda should have broken the 4 myths they got into a series.. felt a little rushed.. also a run up on a pad is different than a run up on grass
We need Mark Rober to create a machine to assist in busting/validating this myth. This is the way.
He made a full size disc launcher on crunch labs.
This is literally just a James Conrad edition of Mythbusters. And I love it
@17:00 totally agree with this statement. I tweaked my knee and decided to slow my runup down. More of a walk up now. I just had my farthest throw ever at 440 ft when i was consistently throwing 330-370. Could randomly hit 400 here and there but the slower approach has me feeling more loaded with the shot.
What Trevor should have said: "I'm just giving you the information and letting you decide what MVP discs to buy."
Basically
yeah :) my goto midrange right now is a Discmania Origin... after seeing this video i really feel the need to buy a Hex
No insanity or dimension..
@@joakimbackryd7752 Just started playing with Hex mids...oh man. dead strait, 240' uphill, under the pin. never got 7 feet off the ground.
@@rinsancrindle7715 my brother got me a hex last year and it quickly became my most thrown disc. Also got my first ace last week with it sooo...just sayin
"this is of course bogus because that's witchcraft" is the best line of the video.
Really we need a machine to throw the discs on the same angle with the same power, and then do a stack of 1000 of them. :)
Need to get a conversation going between Foundation and Mark Rober to build something.
@@jwbeyersdoerfer i'm pretty sure Jesse from Trash Panda was talking about his dream of building a disc throwing robot in his last video
@@jwbeyersdoerfer nah he said a stack of 1000. Mark Rober would only get a couple of discs past 1200ft before the arm would rip its self off the machine lol.
On a serious note. I have thought about designing a machine to do this. The tricky part would be to control the spin rate independent of release speed.
I was thinking the same thing. You could probably modify a tennis or baseball machine for discs by spreading out the rollers controlled by the motor
Axiom insanity is my furthest throwing disc, I agree with the gyro tech
Love how hunter gets more violent with the intro punch every video
I’m an all mvp/axiom thrower and I can say that it has completely changed my game! I’m a believer
Atom is def farther than my non MVP putters. No question.
Envy gang!! Insanity gang!!
Would love to see a stack of 10 of the same discs compared to another stack of 10 discs and get some averages. Love the content guys!
This is crazy because i just came home from a round where i started to taking it slower and learned that i throw much more accurate and further and managed to hit the lines perfectly. Before this i’ve always had a fast run up which have been working out alright. But it was raining today so it was hard to do it, slowed down and everything went better than ever!
This is one of the best videos you guys have posted that is a little more silly. Great job
Love it!!! Please make this a regular series... Please!!!
Best intro so far. Quick and to the point.
I was not expecting that ending, that stuff was gold. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣
Great episode!! Love the myths and results.
Great video concept. CZcams recommended this to me after I watched Simon's "Does arm speed equal distance" video. Loved watching Trevor's mind being blown with the fast run-up results!
For the distance ones use the radar gun to find two throws with same speed so then you know if the release angles are similar it's a really good comparison
^^^ THIS!!
Sh!t now I'm going to have to go get mvp discs. Thanks.
Super dope video guys. Well done.
I've been throwing some MVP since their first disc, the Ion came out. Loved it and have been putting with it since, but it was the only MVP in my bag. The Wave changed that. Guaranteed to add distance for noodle armed throwers like me. I was throwing a Surge SS as my main driver before I picked up a few Waves to try out. Instant noticeable added distance. My bag slowly changed to all MVP as I tried different molds. The Volt is another VERY good disc, that replaced my Stalkers. The Theory is a super straight flying mid, although it's unfortunately OOP.
Props to Konnor for that cut at the end 👏🏼👏🏼 well done sir
🙏🏼
I loved the Nice! confirmation. Bravo!
I’ve always heard that your max distance divided by 30 is a rough ballpark for the highest speed disc you can throw, and throwing faster discs won’t increase your distance.
For example, someone throwing 300’ should cap their speed at 10.
Definitely relates to what you were saying about faster discs going further as long as you have the arm speed to throw them, I’m just wondering how accurate the max/30 rule of thumb is
I’ve never heard this before, but it applies to my game very well. I think it is a good rule for mediocre to advanced players, but with pros throwing 600+ feet it doesn’t apply as much. That would call for a 20+ speed disc. Thanks for the information though, I’ll definitely use this rule!
Max distance or average distance? I feel like average would be more accurate
@@benschikker833 I used my max distance, but my average distance isn’t far from it 😬
If I went by my average I should throw 13 speed. which would be good because I throw a nuke. But if I went by max distance I should throw 15 speed and that doesn't seem right. Not hating just asking. :)
@@benschikker833 I hadn't heard of this rule before. But the assumption would be to use it until you reach 12 or 13. Then you're already at a distance driver speed, so there's no need for the rule at that point. You're already there.
The “nice” myth got me dying at the end there. But for real that myth is definitely true
We need more of these
Love this new series!
Great video guys!
Hahahaha the last myth, 🤣 you guys left me dying of laughter!!
Not sure if this was said, but to scientifically remove the variability of how hard you throw each disc, angle, height, etc., you just need more replicates. Do it over and over and average the results. Science!
Glad someone said it, I was going to and found your comment. AT THE LEAST, throwing each pairing 10-15 times, and honestly if you were REALLY invested, having multiple more people at different skills levels all doing that, that would be a better rep for starters. Then add more manufacturers per the comparison.
I’ve tried similar discs across many brands and I personally like the MVP gyro bc it seems to feel like you don’t need to put as much into the disc to get a similar flight to other brands. They also seem to want to glide further or stay in the air longer. Maybe the gyro puts more weight at the rim for the balance of the disc therefore making it naturally have more rotations making it stay up in the air longer.
Picked up a tenacity used at a local disc golf store as one of my first non starter pack purchases. Absolutely love it. An immediate upgrade.
Good science on this one boys. Jamie and Adam would be proud.
The last test made the whole video. Hahahaha. Love it.
I'm so glad for the run up speed test. I've always been confused why full send fairway shots seem so much less effort than off the tee
That ending killed me!! Haha
You got me with that ending. That was too funny.
Great video!
That Nice shot myth is 100% true
Myth: talking in someone backswing is actually helpful
That ending thou😂
Gave me a very good chuckle with the last one lol
Trevor's shot at the end was hilarious 😂🤣😎
“Never claimed to be a fighter” 😂😂
I loved that lol
Now here’s a solid video! And you guys didn’t even bicker:)
I one step every throw and have improved my form tremendously. Now I have a truer understanding of how each disc will preform at each distance as my form is consistent. 51 years of disc golf!
Solid content right here.
That last clip was so smooth :D
I would love to see bloopers of that final shot
Hahaha that ending was great!
You guys should have had Sasquatch run out of the woods for the nice myth. Also, if Trevor doesn’t believe in witchcraft. How does he explain the dark horse picks?
hahaha that last one cracked me up xD
they edited out the laughter at the end lol i wanna see it all one day
I have a few mvps and I swear I thought they went further but I didn’t want to say anything lol. I’m surprised by this.
I started out with Discraft and Innova but man. MVP feels great when throwing. For me its about the feel of the disc and I like throwing forehand
Which mvps do you throw for flip up forehands? Looking to fill that hole
@@GooseTX1869 I've been playing over a year I mainly use like stable disc and honestly with a reactor, I've started using a crave and a relay is really nice if you want to put some hyzer to it
@@Set42 yeah same here a little over a year. I came from ultimate so I’m more comfortable with the forehand
@@GooseTX1869 Facts man. I used to throw frisbee and more natural on the forehand
The Beach Shop and Grill is one of my favorite restaurants of all time!
fun video! would like more mythbusters. imo an understanding of physics precludes the possibility of a disc without some sort of gyro ever beating one that does. same with higher speeds discs. a higher speed disc essentially IS gyro technology, they add more material to the outside rim of the disc.
Bro I love it when you reference basketball 🏀 any sport really I enjoy the correlation😎
That ending 😂
yeah I think the easy way to do the MVP vs others for distance is to just up the sample size on each of those shots, maybe 5 or 10 throws in each comparison
What I find from mvp and axiom discs is that they tend to get longer forward skips, I think its because the disc holds rotation longer even though the rotations are slower so the disc hold forward momentum longer.
100% spot on
Faster run ups (than you're used to) throws off your timing and mechanics resulting in a slower throw. The faster the run up the more precise your timing needs to be.
probably not used to running on grass either
In order for there to be any momentum transferred to the disc you have to still be moving at your run speed as you release the disc. Since you plant your lead foot this becomes you overbalancing. The only pro who really does this is James Conran, maybe Kevin Jones.
I’m a college baseball player and the mechanics of throwing a disc and ball are somewhat similar. When you have a fast run up, you typically rush and don’t create much separation between your hips and shoulders. Which a slower run up, you will usually be more controlled and be able to create more separation. When you go fast you end up throwing your timing off but if you ever figure out how to time your movements better the fast run up will go faster but it will take time to learn.
An example could be Simon lizottes 360 spin throw. If I went and did that it would go 200 feet but he has learned how he needs to time it and it allows him to create a ridiculous amount of stretch and separation and generate greater speed than a normal throw.
lol.. i started like 4 years ago, and went from Mako to Hex as a complete newbie. Mako was my first love and then the Hex design and name shouted out to me. So then I loved one for a long time. Lost it and got it replaced with a much beefier Hex. So i'm kind of at a loss with mids now. Roc3 and Halo Roc3 is my new jam and I can get more use out of those nowadays than a hex for me. Distance isn't everything especially with touchy mid range shots.
How about testing whether a putter actually putts better than another type of disc, like a mid or fairway driver or driver? Or if playing a round where one can only carry one disc, what would you carry: putter, mid, fairway, or driver?
Just got a few MVP discs about a week ago, hoping for decent weather here in Vermont to give them a throw.
What are the weights of the discs? I am starting to wonder if I should be buying lighter discs..My thought was heavier should go farther.. but if my are speed sucks it might be hurting my distance..
Myth: putters are the straightest flying discs
Ok, that last one made it totally worth watching the whole video. For the speed gun test, you could try stand still vs controlled run up.
I agree with the timing being the key point of force transferred in a disc. Thats why when you do a 360 you can add up to 20 mph to your throw but nobody does that because it is inconsistent and the pros play well because they are soooo consistent.
Have you and Trevor played a bag swap round yet? If not.... please do!
loved hunter with the stick!!!!! lol
This video comparison is awesome because I throw a lot further walking up super slow and it always confused me
The speed might be getting messed up due to how closely you throw the disc to the radar gun
That last myth was hilarious 😂
Awesome vid. I 100% believe in the nice one
Drew Gibson is a great example of a slow run up with just as much power. He never runs up fast and still absolutely bombs.
Simon too
Man that "nice shot" myth being true is just crazy
🤣🤣🤣 you guys kill me
That last throw caught me off guard hahah!
One of the OG disc golf myths. The color of the disc affects the flight.
Yes I really wanna see this
I just did a field test and I can say, at least with putters and fairways, MVP goes further. I threw my Proxy 324 Flat. I threw my Luna 286 flat. I threw my Instinct 324. I threw my Resistor 397!
Which reachback helps the disc go further: a straight pull, the wide rail, or a wraparound (kind of like Double G)?
Probably whatever allows your hips to engage at the right time.
It makes sense if you're not getting as much proper technique into the release when running up. whenever I'm way off I almost always need to slow down haha
Cool vid
that was hilarious
Do running up speed myth with some pros. Would be really interesting.
i would say if you can keep technique and run up faster than yes you can throw farther. You need to add plausible into the list like myth busters
I play with mostly discraft, throw a buzzz regularly. First throw with a Hex it held the straightest line I'd ever seen, also went about 20ft further than my buzzz. Still prefer to throw my discraft discs though.
My Hex goes inexplicably farther than my like mids. Probably not the gyro, but something else about it. Either way, I love that disc so much already and have only been throwing it a few weeks.
It makes sense, when you run-up faster your muscles are tense and that makes them slow. When your run-up is slow and relaxed, your arm and whole body are much faster.
The reason why they were throwing faster with a slower run up versus a faster run up is on the faster run up they were more than likely thinking about there lower body untill it cam time to pull through, and the slower run up able to put more though, Basically just saying that Disc Golf is a mental game as the rest the more you think of about one aspect of your run up the less you think of the other parts wether your doing a faster run up or a slightly slower run up were your mind is puting that though will help decide in this case the spped of witch you throw
Potential myths:
Overmold discs skip less
Leaning your body controls disc flight
Lighter discs (does higher speed release = further flight with a lighter disc)
And please do a domey discs fly further test
YES!
Leaning your body controls angles. As in more hyzer or anhyzer. That's not some kind of myth. That's technique actually used.
Sharp already aswers leaning your body. Guys at DD tested light disc vs max weight disc. With low arm speed light goes farther, but with fast arm speed max weight goes farther.
@@kimmomatikainen1843 might at well do more tests for science and see if it's repeatable.
I meant leaning body mid flight and yelling at the disc to sit, go, turn etc…
can you guys make a disc that has a dimpled surface like a golf ball and see if that will fly farther or cut through the wind better?
More testing is needed with the mvp myth
I like the last myth :)
Running up fast, you are shortening your pull back to keep up with your body. Your power comes mostly from the snap when pulling the disc forward. When you run up fast, you also aren't utilizing the power in your legs and in turn actually need to slow down when releasing the disc. It's all about finding the happy medium.
