  • Though we travel full time in our RV, we try to see our kids as much as possible. That’s why Rainbow Springs State Park in Dunnellon, Florida was perfect, less than an hour from them. Plus it had full hookups and plenty to do in the park.
In this video, you will see a site-by-site tour of the campground & amenities. But first we will show all the fun stuff to do at the campground and the headspring (see chapters to skip to the section you want).
    Chapters:
    0:00 Intro
    1:39 Canoeing
    3:37 Tubing
    4:29 Campers Swim Area
    5:02 Headspring Swim Area
6:41 Day Use Old Zoo & Waterfalls
    8:13 History
    9:21 Map
    11:03 Loop B & C
    15:34 Loop A
    18:11 Conclusion
    Campground Info:
3 of the 60 total sites are pull-through sites for RVs only (2 separate loops). 7 sites are for tents only, with a common parking area & a short walk to the sites, & 50 of the sites are for RV or tent. 8 of these sites are paved & enhanced for visitors with mobility challenges.
The camping pads have been packed with gravel. Tents will need heavy-duty stakes. There are 4 restroom facilities, a pavilion by the playground, a holding tank dump station, a paved entrance road, a camp store& small museum. All of the sites have 20/30/50 amp electrical service & the RV sites have sewer connections.
Headsprings Entrance: 19158 S.W. 81st Place Road (open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily- but shuts early if full)
Campground Entrance: 18185 S.W. 94th St. (get gate code before arriving- gate not attended)
FEES: $26 a night for campground; $2 a person entrance to headspring; Contact Guest Services at 352-533-4305 for tube rental/shuttle fees
Canoe and kayak rentals are available at the head springs or in the campground
PROS: natural setting; full hook ups; swim area just for campers; canoe/kayak rental from the campground; you can canoe to headspring from campground (about a mile and a half); dog friendly except at swim areas
CONS: day use is not close- you have to drive, tram, or go by water; campground loop next to main building is mostly a parking lot- a few nice sites; site 49 had a main sewer tank that smelled; camper swim area is small and shallow; tubing and tram only runs during tubing season; only recycle aluminum; once they “reach capacity” at day use, no more people in for the rest of the day

Rainbow Springs is special because the entire Rainbow River is clear, where lots of rivers the tannins turn it murky brown again once you leave the spring head . Unfortunately though it's so hard to get into these days. I haven't had any luck lately.

    • @DownsizingMakesCents
      @DownsizingMakesCents  Před 3 lety +2

That’s is very true. But the campground swim area wasn’t as clear as the head spring.

I am currently researching / looking to purchase a 2021 /2022 Ram 3500 DRW and the 2021 Grand Design 346FLS (37' 11"), but I want to make sure that I'm able to get into at least some of the state parks. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Ray

    • @DownsizingMakesCents
      @DownsizingMakesCents  Před 3 lety +1

We picked the 310 GK because it was 35’. We researched that many National parks don’t allow over 35’. We didn’t go smaller because we were worried that too small after having a large house we lived in for 23 years- it would be difficult to adjust. Now I wish we went smaller- 28’. There will be more places you can stay. And when we went to Canada, they see anything over 32’ as the largest in their provincial parks. And a park like Anastasia won’t take over 35’.
We have a Ram 3500 longbed crew cab dually. It’s about 22’. But when trying to book a site on Reserve America or other reservation websites, it’s the fifth wheel size that will limit how many spaces are available- and it’s so hard to get in places right now.
Sorry. Probably not the answer you hoped for. State parks do have spots for big rigs, but just not as many.
Good luck. Let us know how it goes,

We got ours right in the campground and launched right there.
Unfortunately, you can paddle down to the day use, but if it’s at capacity, they won’t let you dock

Can you reserve spots in the Florida state parks?

Cathy, yes. Go straight to the state park website and look for the booking button. They are switching away from Reserve America and raising costs 30 percent. I’m not sure if these changes have happened yet. We are in Tennessee now,

They rent canoes and kayaks. You can bring your own SUP, canoe, kayak, tube, floats.

RVs ruin campgrounds. Noisy generators, air conditioners, diesel fumes. Go park it in a Walmart parking lot. U aren't "seeking nature", ur simply sleeping in ur vehicle. Leave campgrounds for tent campers to enjoy, peace, quiet & wildlife!🏕️🏕️🏕️🏕️🏕️🏕️🏕️🏕️

Campgrounds are now designed FOR RVs - with power, water, dump station etc. if there is power, generators are not allowed.
I’ve seen tenters that play loud music, leave a mess, etc.
Its not RVer Vs Tenters. It’s rude campers in general that ruin it.
