treat art like a sport to succeed

If you want to be a successful artist you need to treat art like a sport.
Making a living as an artist is much like making a living as a professional athlete. You are trying to get people to pay you to do what you and most other participants do for the love of the game... or the love of your art.
We all know that the most important thing to focus on for an athlete is performance. Only those playing at the elite level can expect to have a career as a professional.
The same goes for art. The primary focus for an aspiring artist should be their performance. How well can they paint or draw or compose.
Once an artist is performing at an elite level, consistently creating great paintings, then it is relatively easy to generate earnings from their work.
I believe many artists focus on the business side way too early. It is not surprising that many aspiring artists are frustrated. It would be just like a house league caliber athlete trying to make it as a professional athlete.
