    As high-limit gaming manager at The Venetian in Las Vegas for 11 years, I dealt with Phil Ivey many times. Very cool guy. He would lose $1mil in less than an hour on a crap table. As far as this case; the second I heard about it I said basically everything the game protection guy in this video said. These two casinos either got greedy or had very weak table games managers because they never should have agreed to Phil's requests. Since they did; the only thing they could do after that was label him an "Advantage Player" and not let him play again. Phil needs a lawyer and a judge who understands gaming because he should be able to keep his winnings.

    To anyone wondering - phil Ivey lost the case in both the US and the UK. He never got paid in the UK, and was asked to pay back the money to the borgata. However, the casino wired his $10mil he made to a Mexican account - so the money couldn’t be directly returned. The borgota would then go on to take future winnings of ivey’s - essentially meaning he would play poker without a prize.
    This got a lot of backlash from the gambling community.
    The borgota tried to seize ivey’s assets in Nevada as repayment, but that didn’t work out and Ivey ended up filing an appeal - which reached an unknown settlement. No one knows if he repaid his $10mil to the casino or not

      I agree that in MY book, ivey didn't cheat but played smart. But in CASINO rules, it's cheating. Before playing a casino, you indirectly agree that it's a gambling game and they have an edge on you. For example if you go to vegas, counting cards at blackjack is illegal and casinos can sue you and take you to jails for that. Even if you're smart, it's still cheating to THEM.

    • @SonTerrific
      @SonTerrific Před 8 lety +20

      It's not illegal to count cards. It does give the player the advantage so when a casino sees it, they tell the player they won't take their bets any more. But the player can not be arrested for it and a casino can't sue a player for doing it. All they can do is refuse your business.

    • @NazZimou
      @NazZimou Před 8 lety +1

      They can't arrest you because it isn't illegal. Just saying that your original comment was wrong in saying it's illegal and someone can be arrested for doing it. You just said they can't be arrested. Illegal means there's a crime commited, which counting cards is definitely not a crime.

No room for chance. It seems like he has infiltrated the temple of curvy lines (casino) where all the bright eyed hopeful individuals see a parabolic curve and imagine themselves at the top of that bell and has instead spent his time in these places ignoring hope and has instead walked with his feet on the ground and a "straight line" mindset. Such incredible dedication to walking into a casino with FUCK CHANCE as your modem operandi and being so wildly successful is very inspiring to me (I don't gamble).

      The casino agreed to all of Phil's terms and conditions in order to give him what he believed to be an edge and again the casino agreed to it. Withholding of Phil's winnings is damaging enough to the casino's reputation because other casual gamblers may avoid them. My advice to the casino would be to get some Aspercream with Lidocaine, apply it to their anal area and get over the butt hurt! They surely brought this upon themselves. As an aside, before this video, I never even heard of a gambler named Phil Ivey!

If Phil was reading the back of card without having requested a certain type of cards then I would say its just an advantage if it was the casino's card and Phil hadnt asked for them knowing what he was going to do, but he intended obviously to get them to have certain type of cards so he could have a signifcant advantage without the casino's knowledge, to me thats cheating.

It should never have gone to court in the first place They should pay him and then bar him. But not to pay don’t look good for the casino. So if someone lost millions of pounds then won it all back then what would they get paid or not. Casinos only like losers not winners. Better not to gamble.
