- Hi everyone! This week I'm sharing everything I brought with me for 5 weeks in Italy for work and vacation. Stay tuned for next week for a travel capsule lookbook and what to wear in Italy on vacation!
On this channel, I share #slowfashion and #sustainablefashion tips that center around how to #shopyourcloset, and restyling pieces you already own. I also spotlight brands that I believe in every now and then. I believe in #creativityoverconsumption, and that we all have the power to be conscious consumers.
Slow fashion looks different for everyone, and I'm so grateful you share this space with me!

It’s easy to trust your sponsored content and your partnerships when I see how much remains in your wardrobe over the years and even makes it into your travel capsule. Looking forward to seeing the clothes in action
ah this comment goes straight to my heart. Thank you xx
I just bought the white POMP button up and am so excited to get it 😊
I don't know how you got all that stuff into a carry-on! More power to you!
I was wondering that also😊
I love the injection of a little colour into your wardrobe, you always looks fabulous in that red shirt. I can’t wait to see the pink mini on as well. I’m really looking forward to part 2 and the outfits! Hope you enjoy your time in Italy! ❤️
I wish… I am busty and shaped a bit like a summer sausage and long loose dresses can often look like a hospital gown. I have to watch out ;) I love all your choices. Beautiful and so perfect. Thank you.
I’ve just started using packing cubes and I will never go back! They were so convenient!
Would you please share the brand of cubes that you like? I've been searching for some and would appreciate your comments on the ones you have. TIA🌺
This was just so informative, Alyssa. From a long time chronic overpacker, this certainly was a lesson in how to do it properly! Many thanks. You look so relaxed and re-energised. Absolutely love the pink mini and your red shirt always looks so stunning on you. Welcome back, you have been missed😅 🩷🧡
THANK you for these kind words, I missed you and the community right back!
You recommend the laundry strips often and I bought them for my last European vacation. They are fabulous! I now have decided to switch to them for my everyday laundry at home. Thank you!
Thank you for talking about workout gear!
Loved this!! Carry-on is the best way to go! 🎉 I pare down my liquids for the quart-size carry-on rule, and for longer holidays, I purchase sunscreen, body wash, shampoo, toothpaste at a local store.
Great tips thank you!
Loved this video! As someone who loves colour, I was so excited to see you with red shirt and (gasp)pink shorts! You look great in everything you brought. Very beautiful and elegant capsule. Well done!❤❤❤
Thank you so much xx
That red on you is a "style chef's kiss" for sure, Alyssa! 😊❤ It is really exciting to see how little to be able to pack, have enough pieces & not sacrifice style. ❤
Such an informative and fun video! You show us how to travel with less and still have everything we need. Thank you so much! Have a wonderful time on your travels!
I don't know if anyone else has already asked - but what brand is your neighbor's dress? It's stunning and looks perfect for hot summers. So elegant and easy!
Fabulous!
Would love to see all these “in action”: Italy is the most wonderful backdrop you can have to show everything off😀
Thanks Alyssa🌺
Fantastic job packing everything you need into a carry on! And it’s so diverse too. Although I do not have travel plans in the near horizon I hope to in the future. Maybe I can plan my wardrobe now and at least be more ready when it does happen. Can’t wait to see how you style your clothes. Happy day to you ❤
Extremely helpful video as I prep for 2 weeks in Portugal! Thank you!
Love this so much! Thank you! I am traveling to Oahu at the end of the month and now you have given me lots ideas on how to create this travel capsule wardrobe. I am using a carry on and a backpack
Hi Alyssa great having you back. I really like your vintage pink shorts and new sunglasses, looks beautiful on you. Thank you for sharing this video. Xx
Lucky you spending 5 weeks in Italy!! We’re hoping to go back next summer. Your clothes are gorgeous as always even though you would look fabulous even in a paper bag!!
Can’t wait to see part 2!😍
Love your videos Alyssa, your enthusiam and manner, and sensible nature. Totally enjoy travelling and go to Italy ( Italian born , live in Toronto ) every couple of years. I think it would be great if you did a type of a travelogue. It would be fun to see where you go and why . I'm sure they would be as inspiring as your fashion videos !!
I love your content so much esp when i have to travel to Italy for work twice a year. You have given me some really good styling tips❤
It was about time having you around, sharing you experiences, please share a part 2 with watch you got in the stores around.
So glad to heat from you girl
Hello, I think packing cubes are the best way to pack and put into your luggage. Enjoy your trip.
Wow, you are truly amazing at packing! I love how you manage to fit everything in just a carry-on and backpack. Your style is so classic and elegant, I'm always impressed by your fashion sense. By the way, I recently got your Brave leather belt and it's absolutely stunning! It's the perfect addition to my wardrobe and I can't wait to wear it out. Thank you so much for creating such a beautiful piece.🤩
oh my gosh thank you so much for the kind words and the support! I'm so glad you like your belt, i hope it becomes a staple for you!
I’m copying your esential travel capsule for my next trip to europe. Thanks Alyssa. Best!
Enjoy your trip! Very efficient packing.
Enjoy the rest of your time in Italy. We are going in the Spring and I can't wait. Love the capsule wardrobe. You ALWAYS look so incredibly chic!
Thank you so much and have a wonderful Spring trip!
I loved this video, so much inspiration! 😊
I'm a new convert to packing cubes - regardless if you roll or fold, I find it helps fit more in!
Very nice video.
I also were traveling a few weeks ago for 11 days ! We went to London, Paris, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Madrid. It was the craziest time! Our schedule was packed! The weather was super nice everywhere except in Madrid ( it was so hot!)
I took everything in my carry on ! It is possible l!
And I realized that if you take key accessories along w/ your clothes. It makes all the difference!! Even a pair of sunglasses elevates your wardrobe.
I wanna travel again!! 😂
I love this video and you are inspiring always but especially with packing. I recently took a trip (by car) and I was gone 10 days. I did not have my wardrobe paired down and I ended up taking a lot. I came back and thought about how I can make my wardrobe more interchangeable. This video is helpful!! Thanks so much.
So glad it’s helpful! xx

Love the red shirt! Colour looks great on you. I never wear wide leg pants or long skirts on the plane. The bathroom floor is always so nasty, so it’s too risky.
You definitely got a lot into your carry-on. Enjoy your travels.
Itching to see the pink mini paired with the red shirt and maybe the scarf?😍🤞🏻could be intense but might also be really fun!
ive been watching your videos lately and i really appreciate how you explain things especially why an outfit works, why it doesnt and what to change to make it work and why.
i just watched your video on essentials and what alternatives can have the same effect, for example button up shirt - try different fabrics, etc. would you be able to make a video on how to shop please? i always struggle going into a store and i know what i need, e.g. more variety of bags. but i never know what bags i need for my wardrobe. i end up buying the same type of thing and my variety goal just goes out the window.
Happy Sunday morning!
Happy to see you looking gorgeous in red! I love your red button up and always fear its demise in closet clear outs. You look great in color. Those two whisper light dresses are perfection. Today's lesson: make time for five weeks in Italia, which is good for the soul. Great job maximizing your looks in a small package. Continue your buone vacanze right up to the last attimo!!!
Thank you so much ❤
Happy to hear you get your new sunglasses in my hometown 🤩love your content and your creativity
Ahhh thank you!! it’s beautiful!
Wow!! Amaze!! I usually don’t travel light but I m really hoping to learn from u and thank u for this video ❤. Soo appreciated 😘.
looking forward to your lookbook. you look great. hope you are enjoying your time away. xo
Laundry strips. Yep! Italy for 6 weeks Dolomites starting Vienna ending in Amsterdam - so train west to Turin and then north via Germany. Early September to late October. I will go back to hear the end section again for more ideas. Thanks
Would you be able to tell the brand of your friend's navy linen dress? I realize its probably not available in its exact form but sometimes it helps to know the brand of a good style and see what their current offerings are. I am always looking for a perfect travel dress that can multifunction.
Well done, Alyssa! Inspiring!
I found you via your new podcast, and am so inspired on how to update/elevate my wardrobe! I’m making lists of what to find and feel so excited for finding pieces I can wear for a long time.
ooh wow thank you for listening to the podcast! So glad you're enjoying the channel xx
😊 I miss you too... I am SO happy for you to wear the bright red colored shirt - Brava! You look attractive in red❤
I am planning a 13 day Mediterranean cruise. Along with my travel outfit, I plan to pack 14 pieces (mostly cotten and linen), underwear and 2 pair of shoes. Based on your video, I’m confident I can do it.
I love the video and happy Sunday
Good to see you again! You show us what you brought and why! I love my bone Emmy Parsons sandals! AND I’m so glad I listened all the way to the end, because I NEVER want to miss the live session 😍
E Joy the rest of your time there, and I hope to see what you wore and how you took of them while on vacation 😎
Hi Kathy! I'm SO glad you're enjoying the Emme Parsons :) And THANK YOU as always for your support of the live sessions :) it's always great to have you there!
Have fun! 😊
Fabulous video. I'll pack exactly like you for my next trip!! Greetings from Berlin
Tips about wrinkles? Love your concept and content! I’m a chronic over-packer I used to joke I had a past life as a debutant 😂I love love thrift shopping when I’m in the US and I have found some amazing linen and silk pieces working on learning capsule packing. What do you do to remove wrinkles in clothes while traveling? I have a handheld steamer but it is a little bulky. Thanks! you’re awesome!
Super!!! Love this vid
Thank you, I would love to know your tips for staying comfortable on the long flights to Europe. Another video idea might be a capsule for a trip to Europe in the fall when temperatures are in the 50s in the morning and in the 80s in the afternoon. Thanks again, I rarely get to travel but when I do I want to stay warm and comfortable and need lots of layers for the plane and subsequent changeable weather. Thanks again.
I love it! ❤
Thanks Alyssa! I am watching you, practicing and learning but find myself struggling what to pack for Italy in next spring. It is 4 weeks (last week in April-3rd week in May). Sicily, Florence, Sienna ending with 5 days in Rome for tennis tournament. It's difficult because of the different regions and swing season. I have read that is too cold for bare legs and sandals, but others say it's fine. Would love to watch a video on this topic!
hmmmm that's tough - I think you should bring a combo of both - trousers and some shorter hemlines because May will likely be warm if you are in Sicily at that time .. otherwise go for lighter weight trousers and lighter layers for the most part!
Ciao benvenuta in Italia ..we miss you too.❤❤
Wonderful video! Where do you put the lapel mic? I always struggle with this .
Loved the sandals and I wish you linked the pants! Looking for a good travel pant
There is a Canadian brand of suitcases "Monos" that you might want to try if you ever need another suitcase. It is fantastic and made in Vancouver.
You are a master packer!! I always intend to be this intentional and then panic the night before and throw a ton of extra jackets (what if I’m cold?!?!) and full size makeup and shower products 😅 And I end up in a full suitcase that is bursting at the 50lb seems. Always without fail 🤦♀️
Great tips. I use packing cubes that help organize my clothes by category and it acts as portable dressers. The hardest thing for me to pack are toiletries. Why do we have to bring so much stuff? Enjoy your trip to Italy.
Ahhh toiletries are tough! Also love packing cubes!
Hi. I travel a lot for work-related reasons all over Europe and now and then across the Atlantic. Always with a carry-on only. Lucky you that you managed to push all that stuff into one piece of luggage. I pack 50 % less than you and manage very well. I need to have mostly only clothes and make-up because I stand in front of lots of people and talk. Enjoy your holiday. Buona fortuna.
Love the red on you!
Those denim shorts! I love them! Can you tell me where they’re from?
What brand is your carry on suitcase? And would you recommend? Loved your video...gave me some great ideas for an upcoming trip to Portugal.
Have you done a video on packing jewelry? We are taking a trip (within the US), and I am hearing a few things like putting it in your pockets of your jacket or what not.
Hi Allyssa, love your video , my question is on the carryon weight allowance……were you at or under or over ? Thank you 🙏
Where are you getting your cute neon liquids bag?! I've been looking everywhere for something that stands up and zips like this!
Benvenuta!
Once the cooler weather sets in I find packing shoes (excluding flat sandals ) is a challenge as they take up so much room .😢🇨🇦
Definitely shoes and knitwear are tough
I agree, packing for winter holidays is such a challenge! I have just booked flights for a week in Northern Germany in early December and I will only have an under seat bag that has to measure less than 20cm x 30cm x 40cm! 😱😱😱 I have never done it with such a small luggage allowance before, I usually take carry-on luggage packed to bursting with all my winter clothes, woollies and ski thermals 🤣 It will truly be a challenge but I am ready to give it my best shot. I will have to wear my bulkiest clothes, my warm and waterproof coat, hat, scarf and gloves for the flight, take two sets of ski thermals with me and will have to limit myself to one pair of waterproof boots and no other footwear. I am going to plan everything like Alyssa and hopefully it will all work out 🤞🤞🤞
Great packing tips, Alyssa. I spent 3 weeks in Portugal and took 1 carry-on and 1 check in suit case whith room to spare in case I wanted to shop. Which I did. But still, I probably could have made due with a single carry-on and then an expandable bag in case I had some extra on my way back.
Some of the clothes I never wore. But some others, I wore alot.
While the trip is fresh in your mind, I suggest you make a list. Note all the things you wore many times, those you did not wear, and any you needed but did not have. Include that and a list of basic toiletries in both electronic and hard copies. Keep a copy on your phone, in your email, and even in your carry on. Start with that for the next trip and be ruthless at paring down. The worst that could happen is you might end up buying a sweater or other item that will make a wonderful and useful souvenir. I spent January and February in Portugal (WOW!) and bought some great basic toiletries there. I've enjoyed using them ever since.
@@cltinturkey those are great tips, thank you my friend.
Thank you for sharing!
Do you always fly Air Canada when you travel? I had a terrible experience with them - still not reunited with my bag even though I know where it is - Toronto - 22 days and counting. Love your content!
Dear Alyssa, thank you for this video. Are you able to inform the storage capacity of your bag? Thank you once more 😘
This. Is. Life. 🎉
You look radiant ❤
You look great in red, your wardrobe is looking like my colour ways now ;). I noticed you have a lot of different toiletries in your back pack, did you manage to have bars and lipsticks not in your ziplock with liquids? I tend to put all my solid make up in the zip lock too, do I not need to do that, it would free up more room for face cream etc if I didn’t? Going to a wedding in Provence this weekend and endeavouring to do it with carry on only!!!
Enjoy
Whew🎉
I never know what to pack
I just got back from a hiking trip in Slovenian Alps with such concept in mind. Managed to pack everything I needed (incl light hiking gear) in 36L backpack. I also brought a daybag with zippers to keep important documents & kits close to me. If I were to stay on the mountains with tent & sleeping bag, my 50L backpack would fit everything including clothes & shoes. When I came back I even still had room for small trinkets for my friends! Definitely gonna try doing this again when I’m packing for my internship in Finland this winter!
You have so nice fabric packs for small things :)) They are so usefull and practical, but it is a real problem for me to find some
Alyssa, you’ve been such an inspiration for me as I head into my thirties and try to elevate my wardrobe. Thank you so much for your videos! Quick question, I will be in Rome in October and want to keep up with my workouts, probably runs outside. Anything NOT to bring when it comes to workout clothing? I’d like to avoid looking like a clueless American if possible. 😊 Any tips?
Ooh that’s a tough one since I rarely see a lot of runners in Rome … just wear what you’re comfortable in and your regular running gear … I’m pretty sure I stick out no matter what lol and THANK YOU for the kind words xx
Please share where to get this backpack....I live in Toronto... love it!!!
It’s from JMB Canada!
Question about the Emma Parsons sandles. Do you have a narrow, med, or wide foot and do they fit true to size? Also on the website, the Bari sandle appears to have arch support. Wondering if this is the case??
Your red shirt is gorgeous! Where did you get it please ? ❤
Hi! Love your style can you please share the brand of your tanks?
Alyssa in red ❤❤❤😊👏🏼
Such great tips! Have been super inspired by your videos and reconnecting with my style, wardrobe and the topic of sustainability. Love your authenticity! Can use this video for some packing inspiration for my trip to Italy next week.
Have been looking for a convertible backpack that is both functional and stylish and really like what JMB Leather does…struggling a bit with a colour decision as this would be an investment and timeless piece…am usually more of a brown/tan leather person, but have fewer black pieces and black is classic…Any tips on bag-colour-styling? (I realise it is a bit of a tricky question😉) Already looking forward to the next video!
I'm not Alyssa, but I also love brown over black and on those occasions where I have gotten black because it is more "practical" even though I don't love it, I have always regretted it. It's not practical for me because I don't wear black shoes or belts, and when I wear black clothes, I actually prefer them with brown shoes and bags (black with cognac is so beautiful). I would say to buy the bag/color that makes your heart sing. Also - what color are most of your shoes? While strict matching is not necessary, I do prefer a harmonious coordination, personally. Hope that helps!
Thank you! It does…and you are right, should speak to the heart first and foremost…
Can you please share the brand name for the trousers here? I'm not familiar with it.
Do you have any tips on wearing a button up for apple shaped plus size?
@alyssa what brand is the one piece swimsuit, it sounded kind of like Laundry but not sure that’s it. I would love to find one that is longer in the torso! Great video- I’m amazed at what all you got in that carry on!!
I loved the swimsuit as well !
That red shirt looks fabuloso on you! 😘It’s the perfect pop of color with the rest of the capsule. Can you tell us what is the fabric, and the brand?
Thank you! It is vintage men’s bill blass 💯 cotton :)
Hi Alyssa! I'm headed for Italy at the end of October... flying with ITA Airways. I'm a carryon only traveler myself but have noticed that European carriers are becoming increasingly strict with weight allowances. ITA enforces 8kg (17.6 lbs.) carryon and also a handbag of briefcase (small backpack) as a personal item. Air France is a bit more generous with 12kg (26lbs). How much did your carryon weigh for all that? And I love your choices of travel wear! Thanks!
Ugh yes GREAT Q - I flew transatlantic with aircanada who allows 26kg which is generous but had to pay extra for the European internal flights
I just wandred the same😀 And European carriers do not allow that much liquids either.. It is reaal pain in the a..
Thanks for sharing for the tips! Is that a JoMalone travel size cologne? What is your fragrance recommendation for summer travel?
correct! It is ! That is a great question! I dont have a specific one but i like anything with a bit of citrus or fruit notes since it feels brighter for warmer weather
Hi Alyssa, I watch all of your videos and don’t remember hearing how you deal with wrinkles. Do you always know there will be an iron available so you never pack a steamer? What do you suggest?
Interesting, but in Australia, we are strictly limited to 7kg plus hand bag/computer. If lucky, you can have a 10kg allowance plus a handbag. Recently, I flew with Singapore Air, and all carry-on was weighed for a 7kg limit.
Fab! Right up my alley. Recently was in South Africa for 6 weeks in their summer with only a carry-on and backpack, and I can relate to the specifics in this capsule. Well-done! Looking forward to the next shop your closet, too. So appreciate you!
wow that is amazing! Hope you had a great trip xx
love the black leather backpack, where can I get one pleeeease?
Just found your channel and enjoyed this video. Did someone ask brand of dresses you shared?
Hello Alyssa! Please, could you link me your bouth black sandals, I didn' t understand which brand they are, thanks a lot 😘
Im not sure if you answer comments this late but where did u get that red shirt?? It is to die for
