- Starting before the MGM lion roars, this up-tempo fandango beings with a low rumble, and quickly escalates to a feverish dance as we view rush through Manhattan to finally see Cary Grant swept from an elevator - oh, what is in store for him!
All the Herrmann hallmarks are here - major thirds, two keys at the same time, rhythm, rhythm, rhythm! So fun to play.
Happy to have gotten a clean-ish take on Brian's Kawai piano in April film score month!
i loved this movie, one of the best
Me too!
Bernard Herrmann is my favourite film composer and my favourite score is north by northwest.
Bravo! I has the pleasure of attending a screening of North By Northwest at Orchestra Hall in Chicago with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performing Herrmann's score live!
Wow, that is super cool, I'd have loved to be there. I actually interned at the CSO, I got to go to most performances in 2002.
It's nice that you share your happiness about that music.
Excellent performance. And if anyone else wants to have fun with this, playing the video at a playback speed of 1.25 gets you to film tempo lol.
Haha, totally right. There was a cost/benefit, especially doing one a day that first month for how much practice to get it to the correct speed!
Very cool! My fave movie theme ever. With Herrmann alone, there's so many scores to choose from :)
The movie itself has to be in my top 10 as well! I'll get some more Herrmann up in the next few months!
@@HeyThereBrianDean Would love to hear you do a favorite cut of mine from Psycho. It took me a long time to notice it's brilliance and amazing harmonies. Someone sent me a link online of the complete score years ago, so it IS available if you can find it. The track is called "Cabin One" (when Sam and Lila investigate there) on the full soundtrack. Let me know. Excellent work on NBNW by the way! I was thrilled as a longtime Herrmann fan and pianist myself. Keep up the good work!
beautiful just beautiful
Beautifully performed. One of my most favorite film music pieces! Well done!!!
This composition is a great lesson in orchestration . Thanks for rollin it out on the keys.
Indeed!
great performance! herrmann is one of the all time greats.
I love this haha
Great! I can see Hitch missing his bus 😂😂
pretty gud
I love this one. Dot dotta dot dot dotta boh WEE doo boh WEE doo.

thanks me later
Haha. I prefer the music, too! 😆
Your piano says K Kawai. Makes me think of Kenji Kawai who did the music for the anime film Ghost in the Shell. Coincidental?
Can we purchase your sheet music? Beautiful
👍
How much of Manuel de Falla is here?
Interesting. Does it really end on a nice final major chord like that?
It took me a while to dig up the sheet music again and at least how it's written, yes it ends on a major chord. I just tried to find that sequence in the movie and everything I found online cuts it off right before we can find out. I need to rent the movie to double check I guess!
@@HeyThereBrianDean I just checked the movie -- it ends on one of the 'muddied' E chords from shortly before the end without resolving on an A.
@@scronx I did that all in one take starting under the piano I would have been happy to hit any chord at the end! Thanks for looking that up.
Thank you for something really enjoyable. Just to confirm how worthless the Academy Awards are, this breathtaking score was not even nominated, nor were Vertigo, Psycho and The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Herrmann said that Muir was his favorite.
Can you share the score?
Hey there, this is a great compilation 9781783056064 Music from the Hitchcock Films.
The bass isn't right in some parts
