One thing she said during the interview got me. I'll paraphrase but "driving clears my head." That's the 100% truth, if you haven't driven for a paycheck you won't know, but it's true.

I am a pilot but have always been drawn to trucks in a way that I cannot explain. I feel it in my core, and I can no longer ignore it. My wife knows how I feel and she told me to go ahead and take those Class A lessons. When I sat behind the wheel it felt every bit as good as I imagined since a kid it would feel. I put in my notice with my current flying job, and this January I will be finished and off to a new career. This is something that I am so excited about I really can't explain the feeling, but I just know that it feels right.

Shelby, your closing statement of, “Life outside the truck is important to you,” is such an important issue in any industry. I’m retired from Commercial Carpentry and remember sitting in a Safety Meeting and bringing up the issue of excessive prolonged overtime and how it effected us workers outside the job site, in our homes, on the drive to and from the job site, and fatigue at work; where safety concerns for the Company stopped at the door we exited from. Thank you for recognizing such issues for your drivers. Best wishes for your days ahead.

Shelby, you remind me so much of Angelica Larson. A small package that doesn't let anything stop her in the trucking world too. I'm sure you have seen her CZcams channel too... She also has the same positive attitude and learning desire too. She may actually be smaller than Shelby, but she does low-boys with wide and oversized loads on them too. It amazes me how she can handle the large equipment, but like Shelby says, its more like finesse than muscle.

That was a great interview, interesting to hear about the experiences of the trucking industry from a womans point of view as us men have been the dominant group running trucks for a long time, so need to embrace the new generation and part of that is getting women trained up to feel comfortable driving and dealing with the industry

As a driver myself she's right it does come with challenges. Proud and rewarding job though. I've had a the opportunity to do reefer, dry van, a couple flatbed loads, port containers, and now hazmat tanker. I've been pulling fuel tankers now for all 4 years hauling aviation fuel. Jet-A to be more specific.

September 2022 I was hired by a school bus company and started their in house training videos. Lots and lots to learn. Lots of rules and huge responsibilities. I’m a natural gifted driver and I’m sure that I could easily learn to be an excellent driver,,,, but the job began at 6:30am or 6:00am and I was having quite a challenge remembering enough to pass the permit tests and I’m very much a night person. I have had Lyme disease about 40 years and I have trouble learning new things. I dropped out of training in November. The other part of it that began weighing on my shoulders was the huge responsibilities of driving children to and from school. The job paid $26 an hour part time.

It's hard to get them cooperate to make a diagnosis and they (usually) start crying when you take out the stethoscope. You might never perform a neuro surgery but you might find a way to get involved in (neuro) rehabilitation, physiotherapy etc. Am sorry.. may be you have already thought about whatever I wrote.

If you think that Truck Driving Schools do a Bad Job what about car driving Schools? They don't teach common courtesy or common sense.
In Germany they take Drivers Training very seriously and people are much better drivers in Germany even on the Autobahn with no Speed limit in some areas.
Then take Italy where everyone drives crazy and they have lots of accidents.
