You are a tired pathetic tradesman.
S H Wtf do you mean, it was a great and simple explanation
Great video, really clear and easy to follow, many thanks for sharing it.
What are your thoughts on using an angle grinder and flap wheel for coping? Obviously easier if you're grinding MDF and the design cut is not too intricate. czcams.com/video/OrVBbDYTm5U/video.html
@@emmams5 creates far too much dust for my liking. And I find using a coping saw is quicker.

Watched my dad doing this when he came to help me working on my first house. Like in the video, he cut every piece by hand with astonishing accuracy, using tools that he'd owned and used since he was a boy working in a joinery shop. Sadly he's not with us any more but really took me back to watch a skilled craftsman sharing the knowledge on here. Thanks.
Peter Piper Thankyou for that lovely comment! Sorry to hear about your dad but I bet every time you look at that skirting board you remember him and how he helped you and smile with pride that your dad was a skilled craftsmen and a gentleman! Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I watched a number of these videos trying to get my head round how to do this. This is the clearest and best one I've seen - thank you!
You're welcome, I try to make my how to videos easy to understand and follow no matter what your ability.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment
This is one of the most clearly and well explained videos I've found for this job 🙂
Totally Agree!!
That 45 deg mitre cut with a hand saw. Ooft. Skills!
thedeathcake Thanks for the comment 👍🏼
Any carpenter should be about to cut a 45 deg cut with out much problem
For reals huh.. when I seen him cut that 45 perfectly with the hand saw I was like.. No fucken way!!!!! Mind blown 🤯👌
Just spent a day doing a room by hand, it cost me an extra length of material getting it reasonable but it's doable.
I've done this before a few years ago and needed a refresher. Superb video. Someone who knows what he's doing and doesn't think he's Steven Spielberg. No annoying intro, no background music, no rambling, just straight on with the job in hand. Thank you very much for posting this. Much obliged and best wishes.
Robert Builder thanks for your great comment. I've tried to improve my film making and add music in my other videos but I think I'll just stick to basics and concentrate more on what I'm demonstrating.
Be sure to check out the other videos and feel free to add more comments.
If you like, share and subscribe it would help the channel out too.
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
@@spendtimesavemoneydiy It's perfectly understandable why someone would use a short intro to advertise themselves with a jingle (why wouldn't they)... but it's getting the balance. For example.. if someone is showing you how to change a timing belt on a car and the video is an hour long then a little innocuous 'lift' music is spot on. Thanks for your reply and keep up the great work. You help us a lot mate.
Robert Builder thank you, I'm so glad I help, it's why I make these videos.
I am starting to put more effort into the channel and I aim to make a new video each week, so if you have any suggestions let me know 👍🏼

This is why exactly how I was shown at college by a time served joiner. So many videos on CZcams with fancy editing but the actual butt and scribe being shown how to do it wrong or the long way about it. This man knows what he's doing, Subscribed! 👍🏻
Andrew Bond thanks for that great comment and thanks for watching 👍🏼
Thanks for making this video, absolutely spot on, mate. There's no substitute for skill and taking your time, seen the 'know alls' and their short-cut methods over the years... Please carry on making them, wonderful, even paced delivery and should be required viewing for every apprentice.
Ken Huntington glad you enjoyed my video. People ask why I don't use power tools to cut the scribes and I tell them why would I when I can do it better and quicker with hand saws. Thanks for watching and be sure to like share and subscribe to help the channel grow 👍🏼

The clearest vid on how to do this method.
Thanks.
Thanks for this. I am about to fit oak skirting to an old Victorian house. Your tutoring and saw skill is very good and I will follow this on some rather pricey oak that is getting a Danish oil finish as the wood is to add to the character of the room. The original skirting was ripped out in the terrible 80's and it is tough getting skirting to match the 1880's.
Thanks very much for your videos. I am renovating a house for my son and your videos have been absolutely wonderful for guiding me along the right lines. Thank you again.

Fantastic! I've just put new skirting in an new open plan area (with 14 corners!) and intuition was making me think I'd be mitring the internal corners but having seen your video I thought I'd give scribing a go. You made it look so easy, and with your tips it was! The back cut and highlighting the profile edge were particularly helpful. Will check out your other videos. Thanks!
Easy when you know how.

absolutely the best video on the subject, many many thanks
AQGYM thank you for the great comment. And thanks for watching 👍🏼
Been using this technique for the past thirty odd years. It's the best way to get a tight internal corner joint for unsquare walls. Well done buddy.
Tried and tested for many years and it's still definitely the best. Although I do get numerous comments telling me to just mitre it and caulk it 🙈

Even though I did not learn anything from this video I will say you sir did a fantastic job explaining how to do the job properly. I find that a jig saw with small fine blade does help speed up some of the work but this is great for people with minimal tools.

Hi mate, just wanted to say thank you so much for posting this! I've come to this today to use as a tutorial to do a scribed skirting corner, which I've never done before. Good video thanks. I cut the straight cut on the mitre saw with only a slight back cut. Better job and more surface to hold wood glue, reduces the chance of shrinkage and gaps down the road.
Brilliant and very well.explained saved me ££££££
Joe Marriott great to hear 👍🏼
Wow- doing those cuts freehand and doing a perfect job is amazing, I can tell you are a professional craftsman...for us home DIY-ers I think a mitre box would be needed for this and even after watching this I would be intimidated to create scribe joints and would probably go for the easier mitre joint, although I realise mitre joints look rubbish if the wood shrinks even by a tiny amount
