I blind bought this and Camel from Zoologist. The description they provided is really on point. The scent carries a very strong pepper and spice, which lingers throughout the day. These two then get more and more blended with a smokiness (incense and musk) that combines them into a dark and bitter salty tone with ambergris coming onto the scene later and very mild, unlike fresher tones. As a biologist I'm taken to the deep sea, where pressure and salinity increase at depths only the giant squid and whale can handle. The concept makes complete sense because the bitter pepper and spice tone put you on your guard for a battle you didn't expect, just as you do in the deep sea. The incense literally then muddies the water (perfume) as the ink tone comes through blinding the whale and leaving the battle scars from the squid. It's as though both creatures release their pheremones, slowly cutting through the adrenaline of the pepper spice feel. As the mighty whale retreats (true in the wild), wounded and scarred it spews bitter amgergris as the pepper, spice and salt become more subtle. This makes me think back to the retreating whale's skin, which although thick and enduring still leaves traces of all it's past battles. Amazing concept and 10/10 for painting this picture so accurately with the biology of these two creatures. Not what I was expecting at all because of the darkness of the scent, but it is certainly unique and seductive. It's exactly like two alpha creatures going to war, releasing pheromones to dictate dominance and superiority. Amazing!
Squid has quickly moved into my top 5 of Zoolologist... Rhino... TRex... Bat (org)... Bat (new)... This has climbed right into the middle the favs... Love it. Someday a bottle for sure ... Thanks guys ✌️
And btw you gotta put this on skin to fully appreciate the depth. Quite unique

Now that you mention it, Bill Nighy is one of my favorite actors and now I feel like I have to buy and gift this cologne to him somehow. 😆 I think he’d easily pull it off as I’ve read it tracks with older men too. But also cause, well, he was an octopus at one point.
I have squid and it’s something else. Nice to see your take on it. Squid had a limited edition packaging that I have when it first came out. It was beautiful, squid as it drys down starts to get a little sweet which I think is the benzoin.

Hey Eugen. about a year ago I got the whole line in sample form from zoologist. When I first smelled squid i didnt know what to think. it was very interesting but I didn't really like it. As always, I never judge a scent by the first impression off the card. After multiple wearing's over the months here and there, Squid has blown my mind. I now own a full bottle. ;-) Squid is just beautiful from top to bottom for me. Great review!

You have to wear it and enjoy the dry down it's a inky salty sweet scent very unique and a lil fishy in the best way
Squid is all about ambergris to me. In a way it's a spicier version of House of Matriarch - Orca

Im shocked you didnt pick up the ink note right away. That one is up front to me and hard to get past. Love Zoologist but the ink note in this particular one is tough.

Maybe it's like the smell of an old diver's helmet buried in the sea? I haven't smelled squid, but I'm imagining it that way, it may not make much sense what I said
Zoologist fragrances are about as expensive as some of the Tom Ford line. They really gotta be worth it then at that price margin.
