    I'm soon to begin building a BD-4C, so I'm very interested in the 195T, especially since you recently posted a video showing your development of a firewall forward installation for the aircraft. However, if you were to introduce something in the 220-260hp range by the time I'm ready for my engine, I would most certainly be interested. Thanks for the video!

    You bring up a point that really concerned me when I used to fly behind an older Lycoming. Being primarily a weekend flyer of approx 50-75 hrs/year, I felt my plane sat way too much! I was always concerned about internal corrosion, and now living in Florida, my concern had grown even more. I am hoping with the technology you mention with the car engines, that maybe I can feel more at ease being a weekend flyer.

    Hi Jan, great vid, long, but full of sensible things pertaining to choosing Honda and retrofitting to aircraft. Are these newer engines similar to the k20/24 designs? VVTC Actuator issues of 2008/09 rings a bell to me. I haven’t worked on any newer engines, we never get them in, or dealer warranty.
    I guess things only get better and better with you folks... I’m still aways from starting my Super Duty build. But you folks are still my first choice! Our RAA chapter built a Cruzer with a rebuilt o-200. 70 year old engine design pulling a 2016 new airframe! Where is the logic in that? Inherited cooling issues, oil, baffles, magnetos, carb heat, cabin heat off exhaust, tractor starter, oil leaks, list goes on.

    Your website states the 150 is a great choice for the Rans S-21. Would you suggest a 150 is better than a 195 Turbo for the S-21? Im looking to get the performance specs that Rans states the Titan XIO-340 achieves with 180hp, but with a Viking engine. Do you think the 195T is the best bet if that is my goal?
    Thanks for all the content on these engines. Keep it coming!

    • @eggenfellner
      @eggenfellner  Před 2 lety

      We actually prefer the 150 with a variable pitch prop over the 195T, unless maybe at a high density altitude.

      @@eggenfellner I did quite the analysis on this today based on the data you publish from testing with the CruZer.
      From my analysis:
      VIP
      - 25% Boost in climb performance @3000', 50% @7000
      - 10% fuel efficiency at equivalent cruise speed as Fixed Pitch
      - 8% speed boost at equivalent altitude and RPM as Fixed Pitch
      I can appreciate the efficiency, but I feel like the 195T would outdo the speed/climb performance benefits of the VIP with brute force horse power, at the sacrifice of fuel efficiency and range.
      It probably depends on what a buyer wants most: Top Speed and Max Turbo-normalized Climb Performance or Max Range/Duration
      I'm interested to see more data and looking forward to some Rans S-21 data!
      Keep up the great work! You've won my support! Just need to keep stacking the pennies 😉

    • @mcorrive12

      I may be altering course. Was initially thinking Rans S-21 with the Viking 150. Then was hoping Zenith would come out with a Super CruZer. I'm now thinking an RV-15 with a Viking 195 might be the play. 😮 The downside there is another 12-18 months till they start taking sales, then I'm sure there will be another 12 months of long lines of people throwing money at Vans and another 12 months of kit lead time. I'll give you a call in 3-4 years! 😆
      Realistically I'm still stacking my pennies anyways 🙂

      @eggenfellner  Před 3 lety +3

      Hey Ray, the 195T weighs 260 lbs, installed usually a bit under your standard Lyco/Continental within the same HP range. However, we have our Viking 130 on the Kitfox 7 - I don't believe this engine would be the best option, rather the 130/150 with a variable pitch prop.

      @@eggenfellner if top speed or shorter take off are the goals, would a Viking 195 turbo not be more ideal? Are there any downsides to the more powerful Viking engine on a Kitfox 7 compared to the smaller Viking engines or the Rotax 916?

      @eggenfellner  Před 3 lety +3

      We deal with large mass production, diesel's also tend to be heavy. The closest you are going to get to a diesel is direct injection, then you are still light, mass produced and easy to maintain. We have not done a Sling as of yet, it could be done, someone would just need to do it :)
