    My wife and i moved to Manning SC in 2005 and lived there on Lake Marion for 7 years. I loved every minute of it. She got tired of driving long distances to find a decent...her words..grocery store so we moved to Greenville for 2 years....best place i have ever lived...and then finally came over to Gainesville Ga for the last 9 years. I had to smile as i watched your video because it was spot on in all respects...although you didnt mention the alligators!! When we moved to Mannin we first looked at the Columbia area around Lake Murray which is where i wanted to move but the kudzu problem at the time scared us away. I regret that because living in a suburb of Columbia.....I became a big Gamecock fan....would have been great. Anyway I miss SC and liked it much better than living in Georgia, but at my age am probably stuck here although we do live in a wonderful retirement community.
    Thanks for an honest video for folks thinking about moving to SC. In spite of some of the negatives you describe, overall it was a great state to move to.

We have stopped in SC while driving to Florida. The people are super friendly and nice. So, it is a toss up, I like the low taxes, the nice people, a quiet slow pace but hate the thought of assortment of strange looking bugs, oppressive humidity and people that don't know how to merge on the interstate.😢 I'll stay put for now.

It's crazy how different things can be from one side if the country to the other. My favorite is southern hospitality. This is so true, we have family in Charleston but live in a metropolitan city up North. I remember my shock as a 10 year old visiting. Because it is so congested here (and can be dangerous).. people only speak to people they know. If someone you didn't know waved at you or tried to speak to you.. your senses would go on high alert.. they either wanted to harm or con you.. so when strangers waved and said hello down south.. I immediately asked my Dad if he knew them.. he shook his head and responded " it's the southern way of being friendly, just wave back or say hello" LoL... I was amazed

    One item you mentioned was the termite DETECTION stations. These DO NOT prevent termites. They are simply there to detect the presence of termites. If termites are found in the detection systems, further inspections will check to see if they are more prevalent and need treatment. Again, these stations do zero to protect your home but serve as an important early warning sign of problems.

    Another point. Big regional and national developers operate in SC and surrounding southern states because they can. No zoning/weak zoning allows them to grid a property and build higher density cookie cutter subdivisions to maximize profit margins. These developments tend to lack privacy, use cheaper materials and IMO are visually unappealing. This practice of high density and unchecked growth perhaps stands out (matters), more by those from the northeast states. The northeast being more dominant with low density suburbs, emphasizing natural landscapes and land preservation.

We are moving to the low country from NY where they get you every two years with a few hundred dollar registration fee and I almost fell off my chair when I realized what we will be paying in property taxes for our two relatively new cars each year. Being frustrated that people give the number to the exit instead of the name of the exit is laughable. The number of the Exit is More important than the name, It lets you know in what direction you're going & if you've already Passed the exit you should have taken!

    • @brandongaronteam
      @brandongaronteam  Před 6 měsíci

      I understand it now, especially when I worked ems and we utilized it here. We got lost in LA when people called in interstate wrecks by the closest exit names, because they were often wrong or on the north side vs the south of that exit. Mile markers would have been much easier, but most citizens didn’t know them.
      Either way, when you grew up knowing exits by their name, it takes some getting used to memorizing mile markers.

    In terms of merging on the interstate the laws are different by state. In MT the cars merging on must yield to traffic on the interstate (and yes we call it that here too). So it would be correct to stop if you can’t get on. And it is not required to move over for those entering the interstate, it’s just polite. I had a conversation with an out of stater about this here because she was upset and didn’t realize the laws were different.

    • @ashleyjcraven7331

      That law is standard in every state. When merging its not up to traffic to adjust there speed or move over. The ball is in your court to get in where u fit in. Some people just don't have enough of experience or they are afraid. But you should run the length of the ramp and make adjustments and only stop if you absolutely have to towards the end of the ramp. Most people see you merging so you know the rest

    Better to visit SC than live there. Major objections are 7% income tax on retirement income (the weenie wee $15k deduction just doesn't cut it) and the tax on vehicles is truly annoying unless you drive a piece of junk. And low property taxes are a good thing as long as you don't have an HOA, then there are no savings.

There are some civilized people here, maybe about 10%. We have concealed weapon permits, and there is a bill before the legislature to change it to Open Carry permits with no kind of background check or training. I live in Chapin, SC and it was once a sleepy little town like Mayberry, not anymore. To many developers came in here and built cheap housing developments and the riff raff started moving in. Traffic has increased 10 fold in just the 12 years I have lived here. Like one of the other commenters, if you are coming from a liberal state leave your politics there or don't come. One other thing about SC or the South for that matter, the cops here will bust your head if you are being stupid. So whatever nonsense you are used to getting away with in a liberal state in not going to fly here.
