Lexington is a great place to live. Recently moved to the area and enjoy the fact that its not crowded and alot of trees and cleaner air. Even though it is a lower cost of living the cons i would say is the limited job opportunities and low pay scale in specific job roles. However it is very peaceful there as well.

High crime,and the traffic on sunset blvd is unbearable!! Fast food joints everywhere,and the food is gross.

My wife and I love the theater, plays and musicals. IS there any local place s in Lexington?
For a city of our size, we have a decent amount of theater available. The Trustus Theater, is known for its thought-provoking works. The oldest continuously operating theater in the country, Town Theatre, tends to focus on classic works. In addition, smaller theater companies like WOW Productions and the South Carolina Shakespeare Company have found a supportive home in Columbia, and traveling shows like Broadway in Columbia visit the city thanks to large venues like the Koger Center and Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College. We aren't too far from Charlotte so I go up there every now and then for concerts or shows if it doesn't come to the Columbia area.
Currently looking to move to Lexington. I’m coming from Florida although I love the beach it’s becoming too expensive to live here.. so I’ll be renting my place out and moving there. I also like the idea that I can drive too different places there.

@@MovingtoColumbiaSC visited North Carolina and I loved it. Ever since then I knew I liked the area,l. I know it’s not the south part but I like the idea of being next to the coastal area. I’ve also done a lot of research.

We looked for a lot to build on in Lexington, for years but didn’t find a suitable lot. Our realtor showed lots in Governors Grant because it is a beautiful area but it just seems that all that was left was not very desirable. I am a cyclist, so that activity is of the highest priority for me. My wife and I love to eat out at independent restaurants, no chains. Does Lexington have a good variety of restaurants? Does Lexington have roads with bike lanes or good areas to ride? I don’t mean ride around the block, back in Illinois I could leave my home and get in 20 miles after work on the road safely. We did move to Jacksonville, we have been here one year and we are ready to become halfbacks. We moved from the Chicago area, the beach is great but I’m more interested in lakes, rivers and hills than sand.
Lexington offers a diverse range of independent restaurants to satisfy your dining preferences. Regarding cycling, I wouldn't necessarily call it super bike friendly. But I'm not a cyclist, so I may not be the best person to ask. But, with its lakes, rivers, and hills, the natural landscape might align more with your outdoor interests than Jacksonville's beach scene. I have a video I'm working on for the River Shoals neighborhood, it's a new development in Irmo. There are a lot of cyclists that pedal the rural areas along the Broad River. No bike lane but there isn't a lot of traffic. Welcome to the possibility of becoming "halfbacks" in this vibrant and friendly community!
You may not see this reply, but I live in Lexington. I am a recent transplant from Portland, Oregon. Lexington doesn't have a bike infrastructure. There are no dedicated bike lanes, and many roads don't have much of a shoulder. If cycling is important to you, I would suggest looking elsewhere. Hope that helps.
Thank you Marilyn. I appreciate your response. Cycling is important to me so that would definitely disqualify Lexington. A short ride after work is 20 miles and that requires safe roads with a shoulder. @@marilynfonseca5658
It is not safe to ride a bike here. It can be risky. There are no sidewalks in most neighborhoods and definitely no bike lanes. It's actually quite odd how many pedestrians are killed here. As for restaurants, there's lots of BBQ and fried food but nothing healthy. Very few non chain places really. We drive about 35-60 minutes to eat out for nights out generally. We are from a bigger area and it's definitely a bit of culture shock, even after 7 years here. Everything is pretty much closed Sundays and Mondays and at about 8 on weekdays. Except Taco Bell. They always have a huge car line. It's quite comical. If you live on the lake you'll enjoy yourself. We don't have any pools that I know of or gyms with pools, no ymca. You better really enjoy spending time at home. Between 1pm and 6 pm traffic is like NYC. After 8 pm it's a ghost town.
I'm surprised that in a video which is showing the pros of Lexington, there are so many town scenes which are not of Lexington, SC. I have no idea where these places are located but it's not Lexington. SMH 🤦♂️
I had a heart-to-heart conversation that was a valuable "Come to Jesus" talk with a newer editor. He could have used more of the Broll I sent him. While I intended to showcase the pros of Lexington, I understand that some video scenes did not accurately represent the town, but the words did. In the spirit of continuous improvement, I have told him to use only appropriate settings from the area I'm talking about. Thank you for your constructive feedback; it gave me an invaluable opportunity to grow.
@@MovingtoColumbiaSC thank you for your reply. I've been in the area 40 years living in Irmo. Lexington is a great area and I've often thought of moving across the dam. I agree it's had growing pains but has so much to offer as you stated in the video. Thank you

I am nineth generation Lexington. I am moving from here after my son graduates from high school. Lexington has become overdeveloped and overtaxed. Traffic is horrendous. They build before any infrastucture is even considered. She says crime is low here. Well it use to be till everybody and their brother decided to move here. Trust me crime has increased!!! So if you like uncontroled developement,higher taxes,traffic,crime,housing developments on every street corner and liberals moving into the area trying to change the way of life that Lexington use to be then by all means this is the dumpster fire for you. By the way Im 57 years old and have lived here all my life. Its sad that my town and county has changed because of people who voted wrong in their town , city or state and its became a Dumpster fire. They want to move to another state and ruin it. Yall have a nice day

Every community goes through changes over time, and it's natural for long-time residents like yourself to feel nostalgic for the way things used to be. I agree that Lexington needs to focus on its infrastructure before allowing more growth.
Wow! You are hilarious. Lexington is still very very red. You want to blame liberals for the taxes? The whole are is run by republicans!! So how is anything a liberals fault...lol You need to grow up and realize that people don't have to be like you to be good people. Thankfully good people come from all over the world. It's crazy to me how anyone here complains about taxes. We celebrate with joy over the low taxes here. I'm assuming you've never been anywhere else? Good luck on your move. I think you are in for a big wake up call. You'll complain about the growth but you'll jump for joy at the value of your home when you sell. People who say things like what you are saying seem to have never visited any other areas much. There is a whole big world out there. Growth is what most areas strive for. Lexington is a decent place, it's trying to grow and get better, it is just met with too much resistance.

I’m sorry for the situation that you’re in. I do have lenders that offer some down payment assistance. SC State Housing also offers some down payment assistant programs. Perhaps one of those would work for you. Let me know if I can be of assistance.
How diverse is Lexington
Historically, Lexington, like many areas in the Southern United States, has had a predominantly white population. However, like much of the country, there has been increasing racial and ethnic diversity over time. According to BestNeighborhood.com Lexington has a diversity score of 79 out of 100. The most diverse area within Lexington's proper boundaries is to the south of the city. The least diverse areas are located in the northwest parts of Lexington. The majority race in Lexington overall is white, making up 78.7% of residents. The next most-common racial group is black at 9.2% followed by Hispanics at 5.3%.

Not diverse at all. My neighborhood is 101 homes. I believe we have 2 African American families and I believe one Indian family. Other than that, all Caucasian. Oh we do have one guy from Greece. Lol It's culture shock if you've lived in a bigger area or are used to more diversity. It's trying to grow but there are always huge town hall fights stopping any growth. We do have a huge lake, but unless you buy a home on it, good luck ever seeing it. No beaches, not a lot of marinas really. Luckily our neighborhood has it's own tiny pri ate beach. I couldn't live here if I didn't live on the lake. Or at least have lake access.
