    Pegasus for myself is what all other daily trainers are compared against. I typically by the previous year models and they seem to work great in all conditions.

  • @guayaquilindependiente8763

    I got the Pegasus 39’s just over 2 weeks ago, my first investment into more serious shoes… gonna run a half marathon soon, and I’ve just noticed how comfortable they are compared to some of the generic Nike shoes you find at a $50-70 price point. I like them a lot; they’re solid and comfy shoes for me. Will be with me for many runs.

  • @alpinecobra8849
    @alpinecobra8849 Před rokem +36

    I love the Pegasus line. I have other shoes in my rotation but for easy runs with some strides I often go with the Pegasus. It has good grip in the rain. I like its outsole even on some gravel roads. It has never disappointed. I agree that it is not good for any speed work or marathons, but I still enjoy having them in my rotation. Great review Ben!

    Just got over 100 miles today in this exact same colourway of the Peg 40. I got on OK with the 39 and TBH the 40 feels pretty much the same so it feels like I just bought the same shoe again but in a colour I liked the look of. Agree it is not very exciting but I have struggled a bit in ultra soft shoes like the Invincible so the fact the Pegs are firmer is sort of helpful to me and way cheaper of course. I think you can get them 25% off right now. Back in my mind there is also an element of doing easy “daily training” runs in standard shoes and then it makes slipping into faster ones on faster days seems more easier.

      @Jambalayatrailforce Před rokem +3

      Yeah I think we all get spoiled by the super stacked shoes , in the 80 and 90’s we got along well with low cushion shoe that were comfortable . I’m still a big fan of the Pegasus for almost every run accept maybe a race👍

    My saucony ride 15s do the same job and I got them for about £60 discounted. At first not a fan but I've really started to get used to them. Great fit and looks like they'll last.

    I bought a pair of Peg 39s last winter and used them to train for a couple 10ks. When I was running 20-25 mpw, the Peg 39 felt fine to me. The step in comfort was really nice and I loved the upper, but I wasn't a big fan of the air pods, which I could 'feel' under my forefoot. When I started training for a half marathon and needed to safely build mileage to ~40mpw, I opted for a much more fun max cushion shoe plus a speed/tempo shoe. Love the channel Ben.

    Big Peg fan here, since the 36s. My faves have been the 39s - my first pair lasted well over 500 miles. After seeing barely any change in the 40s I got myself another pair of 39s, at a much reduced price.

    Good, honest review, Ben. Thank you. I loved the older Pegasus versions around the 25's but I have found the more recent ones too narrow for me. This has caused arch ache, so I moved away from them until the 39's came out. Still quite tight. A shame as I really loved my earlier versions. I note you say these are slightly wider, so I may well go back and have another look. Cheers, Mark

    I have two pairs of the 39s and am a pretty big fan. They’re great everyday shoes for running around town, they’re not spectacular at anything but I enjoy the ride and I think they have a sharp, classic look and profile.

    @mikeharrowfield2904 Před rokem +3

    I have probably ten pairs at the moment of all versions. I keep the older ones for speedwork because they are lighter, but I’m becoming more aware that they are not helping my aging body on the long Sunday runs. Ben said it. There’s just no response. I buy them because I can count on them always being the same.

And I'm def a bargain runner, who wants to get that 1000k out of a shoe. Will be popping by the Nike outlet at the weekend, to see what bargains I can get on the 38s and 39s :)

    Got the 38 for the cool look and for dressing with work clothes, and discovered they are the most comfortable shoes for walking I've ever owned. Feet never gets tired! My go to for holiday shoe now. Versatile, robust and comfy. Will replace with another Peg when this one dies. But not the same for running, they are a dog to run in.. much prefer my Asics novablast/glideride, Hoka Mach, Puma Deviate, NB Rebel for a lot more pop and speed.

    The one thing I love about the Pegasus that is disappointingly rare in most training shoes is the well-designed outsole. It lets you dip on to some unpaved trails without feeling like you're taking your life in your hands if there's a damp patch. It's my standard for outsoles and it's ridiculous how few training shoes measure up to it (*cough* non-TR Novablast). It doesn't bother me if the Pegasus is heavier than other shoes and not as springy. No one's giving out medals for going fast on training runs, so speed just isn't important. The most important quality of a training shoe is that it is comfortable to run in and the Pegasus fits that bill for me.

One you can do a race (not a goal race) in but also has some life in it. Was thinking new balance rebel but reports life isn’t great. Using the 1080 currently something with gives you that little more.

And i’m disappointed, the left tongue seems shorter than the right. Also with the 38 as soon as i wear it, i feel it hugging my feet right away even when not laced up. With this 40, i don’t get that nice feel right away, and the heel part of the upper material, it seems stiff. Lacing up the 38 would give a nice snug fit, this one doesn’t. They are the same as the 38, just a bit narrower in the forefoot.

    Got them on sale and they're lovely. But I just run a 5k and 10k weekly purely for my cardio, in the gym I only lift and wear my good old Vans.

    for me the outsole didn’t last 1000k, at400-500k its treads are mostly gone. and i relegated the shoe to walking and hiking at 550k. im median weight with low cadence btw

    I liked the 38-especially the midsole. Firm but not too firm-made me feel I was working for my km’s, but I absolutely hated the narrow toe box (I even went for a men’s as I have a large women’s foot)+the upper. Got the 39’s & loved the upper & the foot room, but absolutely hated the midsole. Shake ur fillings out of your head stuff-& super dull as you said-so they got relegated to gym/walking/street wear. I’m a firm believer that we shouldn’t train all the time in plated shoes (carbon/nylon) but there are plenty of other non plated daily trainers out now that I would reach for well & truly before the Pegasus, (& I am a Nike fan). It’s super sad I think-it’s been a really good shoe in the past-for me they have held up really well as far as longevity is concerned-good bang for your buck (which is important to me as I can’t afford to be buying a lot of shoes don’t last the distance), but, unfortunately, I won’t be buying them again unless they do a major, & I mean major revamp.

    Thanks for the review Ben. In terms of your comment about the Pegasus 40 lacking any noteworthy innovation, is there any particular running shoe out there that you think has acheived this over the last few years?

    • @BenParkes

      Pretty much everyone else has a solid daily shoe, using some engaging responsive foam in them.. but Nike stick with their react foam which is so old now and behind the times.. Asics Novablast 3, Hoka Mach 5, Puma Velocity Nitro are much better shoes that have come in recently and really make people notice them!

    I ran about 50 miles in the 39s and struggled to keep a good pace. It felt like work. Went to the novablast 3's and it was a world of difference. I don't think I can go back to the nikes

    The price is way to high when you see the price you can find some Reebok Energy 4 and Puma velocity nitro 2

    • Streakfly
    • Next % series
    • Zoom X series
    I know there's a price point difference however mitigating the longterm effects of running will be well worth it!

    I know others have said it, but i was expecting the 40 to be the time when they seriously decided to go out on a limb and update it in an exhilarating way. Maybe finally use Zoom X as a midsole?!!!
    But no. Instead they just whacked out a mild upper update, held out their hand and asked for 150 notes in return.

    • @therangersinger

      The Pegasus turbo already has zoom x so they have already made the shoe you are waiting for. You can get them for $90 here in the U.S. at running warehouse.

    Thanks for the review. Nike still using old mid form, adding weight and removal of flywire is a mistake. Also the design looks so boring. I will move to buy Novablast 3 for a tryout as heard good reviews of much lighter shoe and much exciting ride .

    Just talked to the owner of my local running store. They are dropping the Nike brand because it's just not selling anymore. The only shoe worth having in the store is the Pegasus, and that has fallen miles behind basically every competitor out there. The store owner is also completely done with the outsoles wearing out increasingly faster. Interestingly he's also dropping the Adidas brand which is suffering from many of the same issues, but with an added downside that Adidas daily trainers are silly amounts of heavy.
    Saucony, Hoka and Asics are just better at everything with their similar shoes.

    The pegasus shoes used to be flexible and light, but I feel like the new pegasus shoes are to bulky. A lot of running shoes have become heavier for some reason.

    These are really nice trainers but for me not for running, I have a pair for work and a pair of the Pegasus 40 premium I just wear as a fashion shoe. Personally I find my Saucony shoes are so much better for running
