Two more sad complex books I read recently were A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman and Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshigazu Kawaguchi. If you haven’t read Ove, it’s a Swedish translation of an older man who had a really difficult life and new neighbors move into his community and they interact with him a lot more than he prefers, but he interacts back more than he wishes and the relationships change them all. I cried so hard through the entire book, but then I did laugh really hard a few times. It’s also the winner of an Academy Award for best foreign film in I believe 2016. I highly highly recommend this book if you want to be moved.
Before the Coffee Gets Cold is a simple Japanese translation that takes place in a coffee shop and you learn a few rules, but you can go back and visit with someone who’s been in that coffee shop before. Unlike most time travel situations, no matter what you do or say, nothing in the future will be changed no matter what you say or how hard you try. But through the simple story you may question then why go back, what’s the point? But maybe, just maybe, another conversation may not change anything anyone can see, but maybe it can change your entire heart. It’s a very slow and simple story, but I cried straight through the last quarter of the book.
Thank you for your suggestions. These are the types of books that I love because they move me the most!!

The book I’m currently reading would fall in this category that you are mentioning and it is Know My Name by Chanel Miller. The memoir of the sexual assault victim from the Brock Turner case. I don’t usually cry reading books either but this one I had to control my tears to continue reading. Highly recommend!!! Almost done and it’s definitely a 5 star read for me.

I LOVED My Dark Vanessa. I had to re read it after I finished it. The writing is beautiful.

I read The Kite Runner (& A Thousand Splendid Suns) so long ago that I think it's time to reread them because there is so much I've forgotten. I do remember being devastated by The Kite Runner (I'm with you: give me all the books & poems & songs & art that puts a knife through my heart!). My Dark Vanessa is high on my list. I just finished All the Ugly & Wonderful Things so I need a reprieve from grooming/sexual assault/anything in that larger sphere right now, but I'll get to My Dark Vanessa soon, for sure.

    I really love your taste!
I have been reading a lot of the books you reccomend, and I realised that we have similar taste, I’m not a big fan of romance because many of them are cheesy and contain overused tropes.
Anyways you are THAT one booktuber that I can always rely on to give me amazing suggestions.

I don’t know the correct way to say this, but “The Book Thief” was literally the book that was pushing you to want to cry. Like the way it’s written I felt like the author was almost manipulating me to feel certain emotions. And it’s not because of the story, it’s because how it was presented. And I really didn’t like that.

I just finished this book last month but I totally agree. You feel so strongly with the characters that you can’t help it
