  • We are pleased to be joined by University of Denver champion, Grand Rapids Griffins forward, and Detroit Red Wings prospect Carter Mazur!
First, we recap Detroit's recent games and where it has left them in the Connor Bedard Draft Lottery standings, with the Islanders, Canucks, Blues, and Capitals all factoring into the Red Wings' draft pick luck. Also, a heated discussion on the wear & tear of tanking & what Steve Yzerman has to do this offseason (3:30). Next, we discuss the decision to send Simon Edvinsson down after 9 games, sliding his ELC to next season: was it the right decision, how he compares to past rookies like Seider & Raymond's paths, & more (20:35).
Next, our interview with Carter Mazur, where we discuss his path to the AHL, how Little Caesars, USHL, & NCAA hockey shaped his game, how his connection to Kris Draper led him to Hockeytown, his ability to score & grind, whether he wants to be compared to Darren Helm or Tyler Bertuzzi, & so much more! (30:55)
Amadeus Lombardi has wrapped up a phenomenal season with the Flint Firebirds, and has been reassigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins. We discuss whether Lombardi is the real deal, how the mid-round steal has lit the hockey world on fire, whether he may join Cossa in Toledo, & whether Mickey Redmond is right that he can make some noise in Traverse City next season (52:33).
Finally, some NHL notes including Husso's workload, Wideman's comments to Toronto for playing Jett Alexander, & lots more (1:03:25) before we take your questions during Overtime (1:13:15) - enjoy!

Am I the only listener who remembers we have Lucas Raymond and Jonatan Berggren? Raymond has the ceiling of an well over ppg player, marner-esk game and I feel as fans we forget what he can do. Berg I also feel people forget what he can do on the ice. A phenomenal passer, incredible patience and great hockey IQ…. Like he can be easily a top 6 forward

Enjoyed the podcast. Great interview with Mazur.
Hoping Lombardi turns out to be a steal. Maybe the Hockey Gods are paying us back with him after Lady Luck was a cruel mistress in the lottery.

I think it would be really neat if red wing players had their own unique goal song at the LCA. The current goal song I'm just not a fan of personally.

Hello guys and thanks for todays podcast!
Personally, I am not sad that we did not make the playoffs this year! But, next year my expectations are higher! I want to see the RW in the playoffs! There is a lot of potential in the team.
What we absolutely need is a 30-40 goalscorer, who is under the age limit of 30. No matter what position he plays! If that is what the RW need, then we need to pay that player more!
This year UFA were: Forsberg (8.5 million, 8-year contract, audience favourite) Burakovsky (5.5 million, 5-year contract, two time Stanly Cup winner)
Wich in retrospect were bargains! EVEN IF WE WERE LUCKY TO GET BEDARD IN THE DRAFT, THAT IS A MUST DO, FOR SY THIS YEAR, to find a good player!
A goalkeeper would be nice too, but they are hard to find. With Husso we have a pretty good goalkeeper (B+) and a cheap Hellberg (which, in my opinion is better than Naddeljkovic! But both are only C+)
Another RD would be good too! From Tuomisto, I only know the statstics (never seen him play) However, he does not have to be a goalscorer, but good at defence. We have so many young LD, maybe we can trade or swap for a young RD!
As you said, we have not had luck in the lottery for years. So, we have to make the best of it! SY is pretty good at it (not naccessarily with Cossa)😉
    What is also importan?
Make a new contract for Seider and Raymond!
    Seider 7.5 - 8.5 million 8 years
    Raymond 4.5 - 5.0 million bridge contract 4 - 5 years

In a year or two the east will likely be flipped. We're already seeing it happen now with Washington and Pittsburg. A lot of the teams that have been consistently good for the last decade at least have started to fall off due to their aging team. There will be a time where we see Ottawa, Detroit and Buffalo at the top and Boston, Pittsburg and Washington will be below them.

You’re over complicating Simons ELC. There’s only 1 game left, why burn it for only 1 game? If they burn his contract then they should of done this at the start of the new year where he can get 30-40 games in.

Hope Steve can find a goal scorer who can pot at least 30+. The loss of the production from Bertizzi and a healthy Vrana was sorely missed and needs to be replaced. He should start with scouring the Calgary carcass, and see if he can pick them clean with the freak out changes sure to come there in Alberta. I expect the Flames to overreact once again.

I'm being honest, why wouldn't steve yzerman bench the solid players for the last game? The difference between 8 and 11 is massive... season is very much over. Just lose the game. It would seem idiotic of the GM to try and put out a competing roster.

We have leadership guys in Perron and Chariot too aside from the long term vets. They were brought in for more than play on ice. Not sure about Maata, but he was extended so May bring more veteran presence as well. Hopefully get the number 8 pick and get an awesome Center prospect this year and hoping the Isles lose in round 1 for another top 20 pick in a forward heavy draft. Might be able to get a Riley Heidt or a Matthew Wood amongst others that could be available there. Hoping the injury bug doesn’t get them again especially among forwards.

@@brentninedorf6617 perron and chiarot arent longterm solutions . This team needs bigtime first line Forwards. I’m all in on Matthew wood, was looking at him with the islanders pick but that might have gone to shit unless we move up with one of our 2nds. I’ve liked what I seen from him and I think he’s got some serious upside . I want him

@@socialmediag5485 I have been reading up on him and think he should be in the mix with the Isles pick. I have seen some mock drafts that have a lot of wingers and D men taken earlier than I would expect. Thinking have to take best Center prospect at 9 and see what happens for Isles pick (seen some craziness where Oliver Moore, Riley Heidt, Ryan Leonard, Barlow, Perrault, Nate Danielson were available). Those mocks seemed to overvalue D (which could be a thing due to scarcity of higher end guys) and Canadian players. Could see Wood in play or Danielson who is big too with the Isles pick. Will be rooting against the Isles for for sure.

Perron and Chiarot aren’t long term. Absolutely agree there. I think the leadership aspects are in play there. I agree with a power forward type that can score being on the wish list. Hard to find outsideof drafts that don’t hand cuff the team either by term or cap hit. Being a more heavy team should be a focus. Hope Soderblom can improve his lower body base so he isn’t so easy to separate from the puck.
