minecraft instant kill horizontal arrow railgun

- This is a video showcase of a redstone cannon in Minecraft that fires a burst of arrows under an almost straight angle at a really high speed and can instantly kill a group of mobs or a player in the enchanted netherite armor. After pressing the activator button, the arrows are beginning to stack up in its front part, bouncing each second in order to be prevented from despawning, and are shot off far away by the explosive wave of a large group of compressed TNT once the button is pressed the second time.

this killed projectile protection 200 netherite armor from 300 blocks away

projectile protection stops adding up after you wear a total of 10 levels of it
@@ceyxerithacus9168 But still
for some fun little trivia, in later Minecraft updates (I believe after 1.8.9, if memory serves) having a higher level of protection doesn't actually do anything, since the vanilla protection from all types of damage sources caps at 80% damage reduction (for each type, such as projectile prot, blast prot, etc) regardless of how many levels of it you have. so you can have a full set of netherite armor with protection 1000, and it will be just as good as protection 5 (since protection 5 is what you need for 80% damage reduction, given that you have it on all armor pieces).
This last part is a little hazy, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember the values being based on something called ESP (standing for Effective Source Protection, I think) and the maximum ESP an armor can give you from any source (normal protection, in vanilla) is capped 20, and for the specific protections it's 40, since specific types of protection have a different value compared to normal protection, normal protection only gives 2 ESP per level per armor piece, and specific ones instead give you 4 ESP.
As a closing note, I'm no expert and this is only something I learned by hearing others talk about it, so take it with a pinch of salt.
proj prot 200 is the same as 10 (usually a sum of a few armor pieces adding up to 10 points) bc it maxes out on 80% of reduced damage from enchantment and each point is counted as 8% (or 4% in case of normal protection)
This is one of the few of those over the top hyperweapons i could accually see having use in pvp wars. Its fairly compact for a superweapon, has a large spread and a decently low reload time.
Someone has to make a 50 vs 50 player war where one team defends a fortress with all kinds of weapons, inclueding this one and the other group is more equipped, can respawn 5 times and has to kill every last enemy (and since everyone's in survival, food, ammunition and potions are limited and must be spent wiselly, players would have maybe an hour to prepare before the offensive)

gotta love the fact that up until recently the minecraft wiki said that "arrows shot from dispensers always deal 3 points of damage" lol
as someone who fixated on minecraft arrow mechanics for a solid like month, this brings me immense joy. a small note is that i'm fairly sure that doing this is generally better at close range- unless the speed of the arrows is high enough to move to the target in one tick, it'll start losing a tenth of its speed every 1/20th of a second. not super important for a tnt cannon like this, but it's incredibly important for specifically trying to OHKO players using a bow and elytra- as far as i know, using only three fireworks with duration 1 you can instantly kill any player in clean diamond or less. but you *have to shoot the player as close as possible,* because if you give it time to travel it'll slow down a bunch.
good stuff!
thank you
I want to hear more about these minecraft arrow mechanics!
So build speed w/ elytra & fireworks towards someone and then shoot them really close?
@@alexandery9436 yeah, fly up to a ridiculous y level and dive bomb them, shoot the arrow as soon as the ground loads and immediately pull out of the dive. Should 1-hit if it lands, and if not you should have velocity for a swoop.
@@alexandery9436 yep! you spam three fireworks (at least, that's what I did from a distance of around 100-150 blocks), then quickswap to your bow, charge it up, and wait for the last second to both pull up and shoot your target. if you do that, you can do well over 40-60 damage in one shot- it will almost certainly kill a clean diamond player, and will take a good 1.5-3 hearts off of a prot IV netherite. the thing is, critical damage is random- you could deal anywhere from stock damage (probably around 30-ish if you're travelling at faster than terminal velocity) to over 47 damage (this assumes no power enchantments)
it's pretty busted, and i'd imagine it'd be even better if you could somehow gain momentum from looking downwards as well (but at that point you smack your head into the ground and die instantly lol)
@@trigger7ff6 i'd known about the arrow damage being a product of speed instead of an actual property of the arrow/bow, but i had no idea your own movement was added to the arrow's like that. i guess it's just not visible while walking around but with an elytra that's a massive speed bonus. maybe even a fast horse would make a noticeable difference.
I saw someone use a setup much like this to instant-kill the EnderDragon. Apparently if you massively ramp up an arrow's velocity, it can one-shot anything.
you're right
was it fallen_breath? I downloaded the world and discovered you could survive the cannon with proj port 4 nephrite turtle master and an enchanted golden apple
I built one of those
If you want to make the loading process way slower while increasing the damage by 2.5x, you could use a Power V bow and load the arrows manually.
This would also make the arrows be able to deal critical hits if you fully charge each shot.
What would even be the point of increasing the damage it already one shots anything.
@@theintelligentmilkjug944 Well, he technically didn't test it against Turtle Master II + God Apple, so it might be survivable still. More importantly though, if you amp the damage up enough, even totems wouldn't really protect you since it would instantly destroy your armor.
@@RadiatingRedstone that is true however he tried them against a row of iron golems with 100 health each so i'm pretty sure that trumps turtle master with God apple.
@@theintelligentmilkjug944 Still, using a Power V bow, which can also pack Fire, can be better in some situations than using the recharge mechanism, specially if there are more than 1 player shooting at the target. However, if you are putting Instant Damage II arrows in the auto-recharger, then yeah, there's no competition
i adore the "charging up" sound of the pistons and arrows
How does this even work? Wouldn’t invincibility frames ruin it, or is each individual arrow moving at such a high speed that they can do hundreds of damage each? How is arrow damage affected by its speed? This is so cool but it’s left me with so many questions!
the cannon always deals the same amount of damage however many arrows you stack up in it. but the bigger number of arrows means the bigger number of mobs it can hit. each mob can be hit by only one arrow at the precise moment and one arrow can only hit one mob. tnt helps to speed up the arrows so they hit harder
Arrow speed literally defines the base damage, it's the only reason a crossbow does more damage than a base bow (however power 5 does increase damage differently). The gun shoots so many arrows at so high of a speed that they won't deviate much at all from a straight path. Shield (and armor) does take increased durability damage from higher damage, so 1-few arrows would destroy it and as the arrows do enough damage to 1-shot an iron golem, well you'll likely die from just 1 as well
absolutely arrow speed is part of the damage calculation. you can't 1 hit a zombie with a power 5 bow, but you can if you're flying at speed with an elytra. I remember a video of a TNT death ray that kills the ender dragon with 1 arrow
Arrow damage is affected by speed, which is how most arrow launchers do so much damage
@@justwhitevoid so you'd only need one arrow?

It wouldn't kill you through resistance 5, not possible to get that in survival but it's not quite a /kill. To get something equivalent to that (in vanilla) you'd need to be able to do 1064 magic damage, you could do this in survival (not sure why you'd want to but you could) by dropping 89 splash potion of harming II s directly onto the thing you want to die. I really like the speed-based damage of arrows, it’s a simple mechanic that results in emergent properties like these TNT arrow cannons, same for slime block piston flying machines. Ender pearl stasis chambers and music disc dropping rules are decent too. The game needs more features like that. A lot of the features seem custom designed to result in particular behaviours, which works, but is more immersion-breaking and doesn’t really make for a cohesive experience. Shulker duplication is kinda ok aesthetically, but it was definitely introduced for the purpose of farming them. Mob switches and TNT duping and bedrock breaking are neat unintended results of player ingenuity, but they’re obviously the result of game-like mechanics, which is equally immersion-breaking.
Be nice if there was some in-game reason to build a redstone computer, like a mechanic that required triangulation with the GPS equations, or performing an FFT, or a PID control loop, or controlling raw radar radio signals.
Also if arrows could break blocks if they’re going fast enough then one of these machines would turn into a tunnel bore and siege weapon, albeit a not particularly mobile one.
i think i'm actually going to upload a tunnel bore cannon soon
@@justwhitevoid looking forward to it! Seems like you’ve got the art of overlapping propulsion charges for rapid fire well understood, though I wonder if those methods can apply to a downward bore?

Oh neat I didn't know the disco's texture pack was still around

I wonder if you could make a stripped down version that actually would have use in some sort of defensive scenario... That being said, I'm impressed as although it isn't technically a railgun (don't even think that is possible in vanilla minecraft) and resembles more of an artillery cannon, it's a long way from those basic tnt cannons everybody made 7 years ago or something lol.
yeah, i understand that it's not really a railgun, i just called it that way so others would have a common image of how this cannon acts by reading the video's title. also, recently i've come up with an idea of how to make it much smaller with at the same time maintaining the current level of power or even improving it. if i do the tests and it eventually works out, i'll make a video on it.

Just like 10 if these in the sky sniping people from 1000’s of blocks away
nah u cant move it so pretty useless
*Reason why it's really not:*
*One:* 2B2T render distance is really low so u would see it coming and you wouldn't be able to snipe people from 1000 blocks.
*Two:* Just put blocks in between the cannon and you and you are safe, I believe.
*Three:* Is hard to build and at the same time easy to grief and destroy
*Four:* They have unlimited totems and totem hacks to automatically put another totem in your offhand after one is used so... no
*Five:* Reloads very slowly and no one would die in the first shot, and after the first shot, anyone could just easily destroy the cannon
*Six:* It's really easy to aboid being shot by simply flying above the cannon with elytras, since the cannon only shoots horizontally.

Cool idea. I'd try making it spread out more. Maybe dispense arrows at different point across three different spots. Could be a good base defense if you could get it to 120°+ of spread.

This is absolutely amazing. You are a god among men.
Can the design be modified to widen the spread of the arrows? I think that would make it a highly effective base defense weapon if so.
i think yeah
If you make a larger platform for the arrows to rest on an had more dispensers or one dispenser higher up, the arrows would spread out more on the platform and spread out more when fired.
would it even be possible to make it 360° by surrounding the tnt with arrows
@@aarnijarvelainen8499 i think yes
@@aarnijarvelainen8499 I imagine the further you widen the angle, the less velocity and range the arrows will have coming out the cannon. Just a trade off that you may be able to offset by more TNT. in order to kill the dragon it would just need more tnt. i could make it much more powerful and therefore taller, but preferred compactness over power, because initially my plan was just to create a cannon that would fire under almost a straight angle and would be able to one shot a player in the best armor. the amount of power this cannon currently has is just enough for this purpose.
