    Thanks so much for making this video. I have never done any car painting but I'm going to be trying this soon with the same Harbor Freight HVLP unit. I did a lot of bondo rust repair on an old beater car to teach myself basic body work and the next step is basecoat/clearcoat. I'll use the 1.0 mm tip like you did. Just an old dude trying to learn something new.

    I used to have a turbine system from Tip tools. I done tons of cars and trucks with it. No worries about water and oil contamination. Way to go these days.

      @@beecnote7742 yes. I have. I use a Titan TS50, which is a 5 stage. I also have a Capspray 5100, which is 2 stage unit. You will definitely save money on material. There is hardly any over spray at all, so they use paint way more efficiently.

    Wow. Great review and timely. I just bought one on clearance for $99. Will be painting sailboat deck which is primarily 1” waterways and larger surface area for cabin sides and cockpit. I will be using 2 - part Interlux. Spray tip, reducer and your other tips will help. I wasn’t looking for perfect but your review shows I’ll get better results than I expected. This will be much better than roll and tipping. I hope to get primer and 3 coats donein a day. Last coat will have reducer to make it more semigloss. Thanks again for your straightforward real life review.

    I believe the spray booth fan should be on while spraying, so that any overspray doesn't dry in the air and settle onto the surface you just painted.

Mine is so weak that it must be a 1-stage. Please let me know what to look for to determine how many stages it has and whether or not the 2-stage sprays better.

    Hi, I used your video for reference. I just tried painting my doors with Eastwood's Black 2k Urethane Primer. I used the 1.5mm tip, its a 4:1 mix and I then added a small amount of reducer (like 5%). The biggest issue I had was crazy orange peel. It cured nice, but looks like a wall in my home after I hit with a roller! I'm not too concerned because I need block sand these doors anyway, so I'll get it smooth. This was over a 2k epoxy primer (used those new 2k rattle cans) scuffed to 400 grit. I noticed the paint was drying very quick, and the air house was very warm. I know turbines out out hot air. This was in my driveway, ambient was like 78 degress. Any tips?
    If the primer went down well (which it didn't), I was maybe going to use this same turbine to do the topcoat (single stage urethane). The SSU would be cut and polished too, so a little orange peel is fine, it would come out in the polish.

    • @walterhresent2295
      @walterhresent2295 Před rokem +1

      You need a higher stage hvlp , the more stages the cooler the air so you don’t get orange peel. It’s running to warm because it needs more stages for automotive paint. When using automotive paint ideally you want to use at least a 4 stage for best results.

  • @jj-hb8cy

    I painted a car door and a fender and got heavy orange peel with that system. Maybe a slower reducer would have helped. Cut and cuffed it out, but that was a looong process with hardened single stage urethane (very hard paint). Do you think you can adjust that gun/paint for a glass like finish?

      @hifiside5066  Před 4 lety +6

      The kit comes with a 1.0, 1.5 and 1.8 needle and nozzle sizes. I used a 1.0 on the epoxy primer which was reduced 20% which made it pretty thin. That the reason for 3 coats for film thickness. A 1.5 tip made the droplets to big , and there’s just not enough air flow to atomize. 1.3 would be perfect but it’s not a option.

My first experimental paint job was this utility trailer czcams.com/video/ZQGtg2GSF9k/video.html Then painted a bunch of MC engine parts. Still learning dent pulling (and other body work stuff) then on to my first real paint job giving a facelift to my thrasher bike. Then on to painting two more recent resto mod bikes that are ready for paint. I will go check out more of your videos now. Edit: Too bad. Looks like you stopped posting videos. Thanks anyway!!!
