  • This is a video review of the Stanley insulated food jar, which is a large mouth insulated container designed to keep food hot or cold. In this video I do a test of the Stanley food jar to see how long it stays hot and how long it stays cold. The Stanley 24 ounce insulated food jar is designed for people who want to take soup or chili somewhere, and have it still be hot at the end of the day. Some people who do camping and backpacking also use it to cook. You can cook rice in it over four hours if you put boiling water in with the rice and wait. This is great for people who want to make hot water for oatmeal breakfast and then they can cook rice for lunch. The Stanley insulated food jar is 24 ounces, but it is much bigger than the 16 ounce thermos insulated food jar, and it stays hot and cold longer. Depending on what you need, if you are backpacking you might want to bring a smaller one, but if you don’t mind carrying the extra size and weight, the Stanley insulated food jar does a great job of keeping food hot or cold for a very long time. In the test in this video, I put ice in it, and after 96 hours the water is still 47°.

They’ve gotten so much better than they were when I was a kid. These things can stay hot and cold forever, and it’s fun to cook things in them.

Hey man, thanks for the review, I'm thinking of buying one but I can't figure if it can fit in my backpack water bottle pocket ?

You’re welcome. It will probably be a little too fat for that.

I have exactly this same thermos. Used it only a few times. Put hot soup in it. And put it in a soft sided lunch box at work on its side. The last four times it’s failed and hot soup is oozing out from under the cup that’s screwed on over the main seal. o ring seems fine. Can’t figure it out. All is snug. Until this last time. I undid the cup and the Top of the “Stopper” style cap had literally popped off!.. and soup was all over a white styrofoam inside of the stopper lid. And to be honest it smelled bad!.. like soup had been leaking into the inner part of the cap and was molding inside. Again I’ve only had this a short period. Not a scratch or ding. The inside bottom of the stopper seems to have a small hole built into it. I can’t figure out why it’s failing.

I wonder if you’re over filling it. You have to leave a little bit of space for air to expand and contract the thermos. If you’ve been filling it all the way to the top, try, leaving a couple of inches of space in there and see if that fixes it.

Yeah that is completely your fault. This has happened to me one time and it was not Stanley brand. You would think you would learn your lesson after the first time but just so you know the thermos cannot be overfilled! Leave some space at the top and this will never happen again.

Can I use it for boiling? Thanks

You can put boiling water into it, but you can’t put fire under it to boil water. It is insulated, so the heat won’t get through it to the water.

Recently purchased one of these, very disappointed. Keeps food hot for around 6 hours even when pre heating with boiling water. My previous Thermos food flask was far better at keeping food hotter for longer.
