    How does the scanner know where to place the file?
    With the iX1600, you're going to make a profile for unique documents that you may want to scan. For example, if you want to scan documents that are going to be used for tax purposes, you can make a profile called 'tax documents' and then you can set all your settings: decide if it's going to scan black and white, duplex, where it's going to scan the documents to, etc. The iX1600 comes with many pre-installed profiles for different purposes such as business cards, photos, and receipts. These come pre-configured in the ScanSnap Home software because the people at Fujitsu know that these are things that people are often going to want to be scanning. If you need something custom, all you need to do is make a profile for that and before you scan that document. You then scan the document using that profile and that's it. Based on what profile you select the scanner will put that document into that folder. It may also use a naming convention to tell it what date the file was scanned and it may also give it a name based on reading text in the document.
    Does the scanner automatically detect the content and then file to a file that becomes searchable?
    Yes and no. It will search in the document for keywords. It will make the document searchable but it's not necessarily going to put it in a specific folder for that keyword. For example, if you were scanning many tax documents, it's not going to know that those are tax documents just by reading them and then put that into a folder called 'taxes'. It will however send the scan jobs to a folder called 'taxes' if you first make a profile for this specific kind of scan job.
    Will it auto name the files?
    Sort of. Based on the type of document that you scan, the ScanSnap iX1600 will read some of the text on the document. If it's a receipt or if it's a letter, it will try to give the document a name that is based on some of the information in the file. If you don't like that name, you can rename the file as soon as you scan it. With something like photos, if there's just pictures of people or scenery, there's no text for the scanner to detect so it's not going to name those photos based on what's in it.
    Can you name the files using the touch screen on the iX1600?
    No. Even though the iX1600 has a great touch screen, there's no way to enter the file name while you're scanning. That's something that need to do using the ScanSnap Home software after you've done the scan.
    How is the resolution for photos?
    The specs are 72 pixels per inch resolution and the largest color images that it can make are 3,567 by 2,361 pixels. This produces a file size that is 1.62 megabytes. In my opinion, for the average person, the job that it does with scanning photos is just fine.
    if I have more than 50 papers to scan, can I refill the scanner with a second batch of papers and then continue to the previous batch?
    Yes. There's a function within the ScanSnap Home software and within the iX1600 called 'continuous scan mode'. What you do is you use that mode to tell the scanner that you're going to be scanning groups of documents. If you had 30 pages that you were scanning and you scanned it using continuous scan mode, after those 30 pages are scanned, the scanner is going to stop and, in essence, ask if you have finished your scan job. If your answer is no because you have 50 more documents that you want to add, then you put in those next 50 documents you scan them. The software will again ask i you have finished your scan job. Now you can say ‘yes’ and the original 30 documents will be added to the 50 documents from the second scan job and together you will have all those 80 pages combined into a single job.

    Thank you for posting this video series on the ix1600 ScanSnap Scanner. I bought it in the spring for my seasonal business and used it for scanning tax documents. Recently I wanted to scan some of my own documents and receipts and categorize them. I wanted to get organized.
    I was totally frustrated as there did not seem to be a manual that I could find and /or understand that explained how to set up the receipt folders and how to use tags and how to create new profiles, etc. (Seniors need manuals)
    You solved these problem for me through your videos and I now have created business and personal folders and profiles.
    So simple when you know how to do it. I so appreciate your work on this.
    Wishing you success in 2024.

      Hi Melissa. You are most welcome. To change the options with respect to the date in ScanSnap Home, click the little circular icon with the pen on it ("Edit profiles"). At the next screen, click on "Detailed settings" and then click on "Title". From what I see, the available date formats are: yyyyMMdd, yyyy-MM-dd, and yyyy_MM_dd. As I mention in my video, I love the middle one (yyyy-MM-dd). That is the one I use. I don't think that you need to purchase an account.

    Sean, Thanks very much for your FAQ review; very informative. Question: I had an older version of ScanSnap for my ix500 that allowed me to open a previously scanned pdf file and it would automatically append new scanned docs to that pre-existing pdf file. For example, I would scan business receipts over the course of a month into a single file called "April 2023 business receipts". Is this feature available now that I've "upgraded" to ScanSnap Home?

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Hi Stephen. Please excuse the delay in my response. I believe that in the newer ScanSnap Home software, it's possible to simply drag-and-drop pages between documents, so as to append new pages. I'm away from my office right now so I can't test it for you but I believe that this is how it now works. Did you end up spending some time on it and finding a solution?

  • @knightingify
    @knightingify Před 10 měsíci +2

    Note that if you want to use any cloud features (like syncing to DropBox) you are required to register a ScanSnap account. Per the privacy policy they do share your data with 'affiliates' and they may disclose your data to ANY third party for a variety of reasons based on their sole discretion, such as several subjective reasons like 'safety of the general public' or for 'other measures against improper acts'. It sad that in this current day we, the general consumer, can not simply buy a piece of hardware and use its features without the company requiring us to waive our rights to privacy.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Před 10 měsíci +2

      I hear you Jon. I suppose the counter-argument is that if a consumer doesn't want to waive their privacy rights, they can just abstain and they aren't being forced to use a particular product or service. I hear you though.

    So I have the IX 500 and we just upgraded to windows 11 new PC's. In the "old" scan manager documents would scan to the main section, I had Cabinet set up and would "cut and paste" to the appropriate folder, I would then join the new PDF with the existing folder. Seems to me this new interface WILL take much getting used to. Is there a way to set up cabinets that would allow you to cut and paste?

    Hi Sean, Thanks for the videos! I bought the scanner on your recommendation. Then I noted that it does NOT come with TWAIN, ISIS or WIA drivers. The good hardware is locked to a software that is very limited in functionality. It can detect the title of a document. Good! But it detects it with many errors and hence stores the document with an unreadable file name. Other applications couldn't open the files due to special characters.
    Please add the driver problem to your FAQ video!

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Před rokem +2

      You are most welcome for the videos. I'm sorry that you only found out that it was not TWAIN/ISIS compatible after buying it. I sort of mention it at the 14:03 mark of the video (czcams.com/video/YQ7wOoPy1Vk/video.html) and it has come up a few times in the comments section. If you take a look at my main review video (czcams.com/video/Po4klbKyRVI/video.html), look for the comment from Ronald Van Rooyen and our discussion. I have heard that there is a workaround for the iX1600 not having a TWAIN driver but I've never tried it myself.

    Hello, Sean. Thanks for your videos. If not, I would be weeks trying to decide which scanner to buy. From my experience, Fujitsu scanners are great scanners. I have an old Fujitsu scanner which cost me less than $ 150 about 7 years ago and it is still working. But I read a review on Amazon long time ago that it said that Brother scanners' digitized documents occupied less space than digitized documents from Fujitsu scanners. Is that correct or not? Can you provide any feedback about the quality of Brother scanners versus Fujitsu scanners? I love Fujitsu but I also would like a scanner that saves space in my laptop.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Před 9 měsíci +4

      Hi Rosa. Please excuse the delay in my response. I think if you have had a good experience with Fujitsu, you may want to go with that; however, Brother also makes fine products. I have a video in which I review a brother laser jet printer which, in my opinion, is an excellent machine. With respect to file sizes, presumably you will be scanning in the PDF format. In my experience, any scanner will provide different scanning options to make files bigger or smaller (higher or lower resolution). Scanners will also allow you to scan in monochrome or black and white (as opposed to color) to reduce the file size. If you really want to make your files small, it is best to scan them using OCR technology (optical character recognition) as this typically reduces the size. In the end, I think if you go with a Fujitsu scanner, you will find that there are many options to customize file size; however, they can of course only ever be so small. Generally speaking, if a file is pure text, it will be about 10kb per page, which is about 1MB for a 100 page document; however, this all depends on the contents of a page, and the scanner settings (as I mentioned). I hope that this is helpful to you. 😊

I have used an older ScanSnap IX500 for years, and the IX500 is capable of doing this easily, but I cannot figure out how to do this on the IX1600. Could you speak to whether 1600 scanner can accommodate scanning a bunch of checks at a time like 50 checks?
    Would like to use it instead of having to copy checks on the glass of a printer.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Před rokem

      Absolutely. The iX1600 can definitely do that. I use mine to scan checks all the time, a few times a week. It can handle a capacity of at least 50 at a time. I scan checks using the .PDF format and enable the duplex setting to scan the backs of the checks as well. They often contain additional information such as the endorsement area, printer ID, safety features like a safeguard seal, teller stamp area, etc. Depending on what you're doing with the check, you may want this information.
      As for using a flatbed scanner, I've been there. Using an auto-feed scanner like the iX1600 is much better and faster than using a flatbed scanner. The cost of the iX1600 would ideally be made up quickly in how much time it saves - your time is valuable. If you decide to purchase one, I would be grateful if you used my Amazon link. If you do end up getting one and have any other questions, just let me know. I'm here to help. =)

      Hi Lauren. Thank you for the question. I always try to go the extra mile for my viewers so for you I went down to my local paper shop. They were nice enough to give me a few pieces of ledger paper for free so that I could conduct a test for you. The paper is 11” x 17” and 70lbs stock. I also made a short video for you showing the steps that I went through. Here is the link: czcams.com/video/TxuMFRA1PIU/video.html
      Looking at the paper, it seems that one could either fold over the 17” side to produce a 11” by 8.5” page (17” divided by 2) or one could fold over the 11” side to produce a 5.5” by 17” page (11” divided by 2). I am assuming that you would want to produce a 11” by 8.5” folded-over page, because it seems to make more sense than having a very long and narrow folded piece.
      The maximum width of the intake feeder on the iX1600 is 8.5”. I ran a test and it worked. However, it seems that it is necessary to go into any given profile, select ‘Option’ next to the Feed box, and then click "multifeed detection" and then set it to ‘none’. By default, mine was set to ‘check overlap [Ultrasonic]’. I believe that this setting needs to be disabled because by default the iX1600 will detect if there are two layers of paper going through simultaneously, either two pieces being pulled at the same time, or one piece of paper folded over. This is not something that someone wants ordinarily. It is usually an error if two pieces go through at once. However, in our case, we want to do something out of the ordinary and this is indeed what we want, so we need to disable this setting.
      Ideally this is helpful to you. I was curious to see if it would work and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it does. The iX1600 really is a powerful machine. To conclude and directly answer your question, I make no guarantees but based on my test, I believe that the answer is yes, you can send a stack of folded 11x17 sheets through the automatic feed without needing to use carrier sheets.

    Does the scanner digitally straightens the scanned documents? Example, my brother 3-in-1 scanner has some minor alignment issue by 1 degree. Its enough to be noticable and quite frustrating on a professional level.
    1) Do the scansnap series digitally correct and aligns the document images as well as the fi series?
    2) Are ocr recognition in scansnap series as well as the fi series?

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Před rokem +1

      Hi Josh. You bet. Like the scanners in the fi-series, the scanners in the ScanSnap series (including the iX1600) have document enhancement features including auto-align/straighten and OCR (optical character recognition) as well. I have never had a problem with either feature on any Fujitsu scanner. I always find that they work great. I could definitely see how a scan that is misaligned, even by a degree or two, could be frustrating. A person could always go and fix a misaligned image in Photoshop or something but that would be much too time consuming, especially if you are doing a lot of scanning. 🖨📄📄📄👍

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Před rokem +1

      Thank you Carla. Do you mean that when you are scanning receipts using the receipt scanning profile, the iX1600 is not correctly detecting the name of the vendor? If so, I have noticed that with my iX1600 too. The way I see it, the iX1600 and the ScanSnap Home software uses artificial intelligence (or something like it) to do the best job it can to figure out the name of the vendor (Is it Home Depot? McDonalds? Starbucks? Best Buy? Etc.) In my experience, it usually gets the name correct, but not always. I show an example of this in my video on using ScanSnap products to tally receipts. Here is a CZcams link if you’d like to see it: czcams.com/video/H9qFd-MDtKo/video.html. I’m not sure if much, or anything, can be done to help the scanner correctly detect vendor names. It is something that I was always lenient with because I know that computers aren’t perfect and that they can’t quite be as smart as humans when it comes to doing certain things, like detecting vendor names. Perhaps this may change in the future with advances in AI and quantum computing, but for now, I don’t think much can be done, though I have never checked with Fujitsu. Would you like me to get in touch with one of my contacts at Fujitsu about this?
      On another note, I received your email and sent an email back. Please let me know if you don’t receive it for any reason.

    Hi, thanks for the videos. We are looking to scan many photos and you mentioned it is not a "pure photo scanner". We have looked at this and others like the Epson and Brother. Would the Epson or a pure photo scanner do better with photo scans or is this fine?

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Před rokem +1

      Hi Ron. Thank you for that question. My short answer is that I believe that the Fujitsu ScanSnap would do a great job, just as good as any Brother or Epson scanner, even one whose name suggests that it is purely for scanning photos (like something from the Epson FastFoto series).
      From personal experience, I can share that I have scanned many photos (hundreds and hundreds - for myself and as a side business) using the ScanSnap iX1600 and it works extremely well for me. It scans the photos quickly and at a resolution that is high enough for my general use purposes, i.e., to make photos that can be enjoyed and shared with friends and family. By setting the image quality to "Excellent" (600DPI) and image compression to "Low (Large File Size)", it produces color images that are, 3567x2361 Pixels, 1.62MB, and 72.00 Pixel Per Inch resolution. This size is good enough for me and I believe would be good enough for most people. The great thing about the ScanSnap iX1600 is that it also does a great job with scanning paper, business cards, receipts and all kinds of other documents (in addition to photos).
      I would expect that the Epson FastFoto scanner would do a great job with photos (in terms of speed and scan quality) because its name suggests that it is dedicated to doing that job. However, Fujitsu makes excellent equipment and if a person can purchase a scanner like the ScanSnap iX1600 which does all kinds of scan jobs (in addition to photos), then it would seem to provide be more valuable to have a multi-purpose scanner as opposed to a scanner that is only focused on scanning photos. I suppose for a person who runs a photo scanning business or knows that they will constantly be scanning photos, an Epson FastFoto scanner may the right choice. However, for the rest of us, I think that it probably makes more sense to have a good general use scanner like the ScanSnap iX1600.
      I should note that the Epson website does say that the FastFoto is also for documents, but if that is the case, I do not understand why they would invest so heavily in the idea that it is just for photos and name it the "FastFoto". I am looking at the technical specs for the FastFoto FF-680W and the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1600 units and comparing them. They seem very similar to me, though perhaps I am failing to see a specific specification that is particularly important when it comes to photo scanning quality.
      So again, assuming that you are scanning family photos and do not need the absolute best resolution and quality (not that I am even certain that you would get this from a FastFoto unit - you would likely need to move to a much more expensive unit to get this kind of quality), I believe that the Fujitsu ScanSnap would do a great job for you.
      What do you think about all of this? Is this helpful? Please let me know.
      Also, if you haven’t, please be sure to check out my new video on the system that I use to scan things in my life. Here is a link that will take you directly to the part in the video in which I discuss scanning photos: czcams.com/video/fJhZHGGKkyc/video.html

      Hi @@ronhollander9765. You are most welcome. If you have boxes of photos, the iX1600 will do a great job. If you have any odd shaped phots that are too large or too thick to be scanned, you may want to use a smartphone to simply take a picture (something that I describe at the end of my ‘How to Scan Everything’ video).
      With respect to scanning on a flatbed, I have been there. I hope that you will enjoy a ‘night and day’ kind of performance difference. It is so nice to be able to put a large stack of photos through the iX1600 and have it scan them quickly and at a high quality. On that note, you may wish to go into your scan profile in the ScanSnap Home software and be sure you are scanning in the .JPEG file format (the recommended best one for photos) and be sure that the image quality is set to “excellent”. You may also wish to set the compression rate to ‘low’ to produce the largest file size but the highest quality image.

      Hi John. I think that the following Fujitsu webpage may be helpful for you: www.fujitsu.com/ca/en/products/computing/peripheral/scanners/soho/ix1600/
      On the webpage under point 4 it says “A3 scans are possible with use of A3 carrier sheets.”
      I understand that A3 paper is 297 x 420 mm or 11.7 x 16.5 inches. So yes, you can use a carrier sheet with the iX1600 to scan 11x17 documents. As far as making a single spread image goes, I’ve never tried it. I can give it a go if you like. I think that what you are saying is that you want the scanner to produce a single page .PDF or .JPG that contains both sides of the document. Is that correct?

      Hi Debra. That's interesting. I just ran some tests of my own with a postcard that I received from a friend a few years ago. It has the standard white borders. I scanned it as a 'Document' which saved it as a PDF (www.seandillman.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/2016-12-19-Post-Card-as-PDF.pdf). I also scanned it using the 'Photo Album' setting which saved it as two JPG images (www.seandillman.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/2016-12-19-Post-Card-as-JPG-1.jpg - www.seandillman.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/2016-12-19-Post-Card-as-JPG-2.jpg). I altered the documents a bit to take out my address.
      As you can see from the scans, it seems to have captured every piece of the postcard. I'm looking closely at the scanned copies in Photoshop and it seems as if it has scanned right to the edges.
      As for centering, I haven't had any issue with that. It scanned the postcards perfectly at approximately 2000 x 1400 pixels.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Před rokem +1

      Hi Riaz. Thank you very much for your comment. I really appreciate it.
      That's a great question. I think that the answer is no. When you scan to Google drive from the Fujitsu ScanSnap Home software, it goes to the following path by default: '/Google Drive/My Drive/ScanSnap'. Even if you use the feature to automatically detect the document type as “Documents”, Business Cards”, “Receipts”, or “Photos”, it seems to scan them all to the same folder (as opposed to saving them in separate ones). I looked for a way to send different scans to different Google Drive folders, but I couldn't find anything.
      On a somewhat related note, it seems that there is no simple way to scan to different Google Drive accounts. When you go into the ScanSnap Home software and create a profile to scan to Google Drive, it connects with the Google Drive software that is installed on your computer. At any given time, when you are using the Google Drive software, you will be logged into a Google account. If you like, you can run numerous accounts through Google Drive at the same time. However, the ScanSnap Home software doesn't seem to have an option to recognize that there may be different accounts running through Google Drive. I had hoped that it would be easy enough in Google Drive to just switch or log out of different drives and make one or the other the primary at any given time, but the only option is to do a full 'disconnect' which is sort of extreme and would make the process of 'switching accounts' very cumbersome.
      Please let me know if that is helpful. 🙂

      @huckaday Před 6 měsíci

      Unfortunately, Raven DID have some amazing features. Being a computer-free machine was an awesome feature, too, but also a double-edge sword, it seems. Because it's 100% dependent on having a connection to the Raven network, (which pretty much steps in place of your computer), and that as of Jan 2023, all signs are adding up to Raven going out of business, the machines will become a very expensive paperweight Unfortunately. :(
      So I have been watching your awesome videos to see if an ix1600 has everything that I need as a replacement. But it really sucks that I can not choose different folders on Google Drive to scan directly to. After we moved almost 3 hours away from them, I had created a folder that I can share with my tax accountants in Sydney. (Sydney on Vancouver Island, not Australia lol) The shared folder called Taxes, had sub folders created for each year, and more folders under each of those for bank statements, receipts, etc and it was very convenient to be able to scan directly to each applicable folder as needed.
      I was wondering, Fujitsu doesn't charge a subscription for any of their software, does it? In my research, I saw in a review that Epson ES-580W requires an additional monthly subscription to have the OCR recognize the data on the receipts to upload to quickbooks, etc.
      Not that I currently use Quickbooks, but for that kind of money, it SHOULD have OCR recognize the text/numbers on receipts!! I'm pretty sure that my basic 1st gen Raven did! (But it could also edit and rename documents as a single multi-page document, or for each single page as a separate file, right on the screen too! I had wished it was able to save multiple, multi-paged documents as separate files, too. (For example, to be able to scan a years worth of 3 page monthly bank statements in one batch. Saving each month as a separate file.) I was really hoping to find a new scanner with that feature.
      I'm rambling.... sorry. Lol

      Hi Mariam. My understanding is that there is no TWAIN driver for the iX1060. It does seem that there is a workaround out there (you can find the video on CZcams) but as far as I know, it isn’t sanctioned by Fujitsu, and I can’t recommend it because I don’t know if the company and its software is legitimate or not. If you already have an iX1600, you could try it at your own risk (you could contact the company first and try to determine, as much as possible, if it is legitimate). Otherwise, if you don’t already have an iX1600, you may be interested in the Fujitsu fi-8170 which comes with TWAIN right out of the box. If this scanner could do that one thing Fujitsu would absolutely have the market on lock and no one would be searching CZcams and cross shopping other brands!
    Ultimately, I bought one and will probably keep it because I was able to cobble together similar functionality by using their cloud scanning and having my synology use cloud sync to pull the images down for local storage in semi real time… but the privacy concerns are not lost on me!

      Hi Sara. You are most welcome. Thank you for watching my videos. I’m glad to know that you have found them to be helpful. In my opinion, the iX1600 really is an outstanding machine. I think that the fact that I’ve made so many videos about it speaks to that.
      In short, yes, the iX1600 can odd sized/thicker items like an envelope that has papers in it. I routinely scan unopened mail in my iX1600. It is true what you say - there is understandably a limit to the thickness it can scan. In my experience, it can scan standard envelopes with about 3 to 5 documents (I’m thinking of some of the larger documents I routinely receive, like a credit card statement that is sometimes up to 5 pages long if there has been a lot of activity and if the bank includes promotional materials).
      For specific information, there are a few Fujitsu webpages which provide exact information, though because it’s not easy to measure document thickness, I find the information to be of limited use:
      - ScanSnap Specifications
      www.pfu.fujitsu.com/imaging/downloads/manual/ss_webhelp/en/help/webhelp/topic/ope_basic_specification.html
      - iX1600 datasheet (see where it says “Paper weight”)
      origin.pfultd.com/downloads/IMAGE/catalog/ScanSnap_iX1600_1400_Brochure_202112.pdf
      Would scanning unopened envelopes be your primary use for the iX1600 or is it just something that you would also like to be able to do? 🙂

      @SeanDillman  Před rokem +2

      @@schjlh93. You’re most welcome. Thank you for that information. So just to clarify, would it be about 40 pieces of unopened mail AND several hundred pages/postcards every day? Do you mean that you may be scanning about 250 items every day?
      In any event, I can definitely say that using a handheld scanner or taking photos of the envelopes would not be as effective as using a desktop scanner. For the cost of a desktop scanner, you will save yourself much more in time, and you will have much better, more reliable scans.
      I think that the main question is which desktop scanner is best for you. If you are interested in Fujitsu options, the iX1600 costs about $600USD. You may also consider the iX1300 which costs about $300USD or the fi-8170 which costs about $1,000USD. I am currently in the process of testing out these scanners and will be producing and releasing reviews about them next month. I also have unboxing videos posted if you want to take a look at those.
      With respect to the iX1300, I can report that it works incredibly well. It accepts many different kinds of documents in the Front Return scan, which would work perfectly for your envelope scanning needs. It also does a maximum of 20 pages at a time in the top U-Turn Scanner, and if you need to scan more than this, you just need to do multiple batches. The iX1300 is a really efficient scanner because it offers these two different scanning options. Some people have found the U-Turn Scanner to be a little less reliable (sometimes it may skew the pages when they are fed through) but the more that I use it, the more I find that it works well enough for the price. Also, if I ever need, I can just use the Front Return scan instead of the U-Turn scan (if it is only a few pages here and there).

      You may also want to look at the new fi-8170. It is a more business-oriented scanner and is faster and heavier duty. If you are scanning hundreds of documents every day, I wonder if this scanner may be better for you and offer better quality, speed, and reliability. Its biggest deficiency is that it doesn’t connect by Wi-Fi or any other wireless interface. However, if you are in a traditional office environment, and if you are connecting by USB or ethernet, this shouldn't be a problem. I have used the fi-8170 only a little so far but it is a incredible machine. It’s more expensive than the ScanSnap series, but it is also much more solid, and it costs because its a business-series product.
      Let me know what you think and if this information is helpful. 🙂

      You are most @@schjlh93. Great. You are most welcome. Between those two, you will likely be looking to compare:
      Price - The iX600 is about $600 and the fi-8170 is about $1,000.
      Wireless Support - The iX1600 has it and the fi-8170 does not.
      Quality/Durability - The iX1600 is for home office and small business whereas the fi-8170 is a pure business machine and scans with greater quality and speed. To give an idea of the durability, the fi-8170 has an expected daily volume of up to 10,000 sheets a day (which is quite a lot of scanning).
      Software - With the iX1600, you must use ScanSnap Home. With the fi-8170, you can use PaperStream Capture which allows you to interface with third party software (this can be particularly important for accountants, lawyers, dentists, doctors, pharmacists, and other professionals who need to interface their scanners with industry-specific software and systems).

    How do I get my IX500 show all the pages scanned in. It used to do this until I was forced to do an upgrade. Now it only shows one page, each page as it is scanned in. The gray field used to shall each pages as it was scanned and kept all scanned pages on the screen, as well.

      Hi Suzy. Which version of High Sierra. I'm seeing from the download page (www.fujitsu.com/ph/products/computing/peripheral/scanners/soho/ix1600/) that it is compatible with "macOS High Sierra 10.13 or later". I can't say for sure but I assume that it would work with your version. I don't find that there are as many issues of hardware not being compatible with software as there was in the past. 😊

    Struggling to get help with my ScanSnap IX1600, technical support through the website is not user friendly. If I scan 40 pages but then need to separate them as individual files, how do I do this? Also trying to figure out how to merge pages together as one file? I scan invoices with corresponding packing slips , scanning everything in individually takes too long, for the price of this unit, I should be able to scan all pages at once and then separate pages as desired, right? I am also confused on how to scan into one drive... there just isn't much help from Fujitsu on any of this and our IT guy isn't on site so I am on my own !

      @SeanDillman  Před rokem +1

      Hi Marcia. I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with your ScanSnap iX1600. I would be happy to help. Let's take each of these issues one-by-one.
      The first issue is about scanning 40 pages but wanting to separate them as individual files. This is a simple one and there is a solution. When you scan a 40-page document, and when you open it in the ScanSnap home viewer (the words “Viewer” will be at the top of the screen and you will see the pages on the left-hand side in order), you can do a lot. You can delete pages. Move pages. Rotate pages. If you want to separate pages, you can select whichever documents you want from the scan job (and if you click while holding the CTRL key, you can select whatever pages you want) and then drag them into a folder in your operating system. Give this a try and please let me know if it resolves the issue.
      The second issue is scanning into OneDrive. Do you already have OneDrive installed on your PC? If so, the easiest way to scan into OneDrive would be to simply set your destination/target scanned folder to a folder that you already have in your OneDrive environment. Here is a link to a video that I made for another CZcams viewer about how to set this up. Please take a look and let me know if it is helpful: czcams.com/video/XR68hr6HZG4/video.html. If it is not, please let me know and we can go from there. 🙂

    Can you set up the photo naming in duplex to give the same name to a photo with _2 for the back? The 680 does this. Example 10221980.jpg 10221980_2.jpg

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Před rokem +1

      Hi Darren. That's a good question. When you mention the 680, I assume that you mean the Epson FastFoto FF-680W Photo Scanner. I still need to check one of those out. Is that your main scanner?
      Regarding the iX1600, I'm looking at the settings in the ScanSnap Home software and I don't think that there is such a feature. In the settings area, there are options for "Title". Two title format options are available, one is 'Use scanned date' and the other is 'Customize file names'.
      If you select 'Use scanned date', and if we are scanning 2 double-sided photos on November 6, 2022, and using a YYYYMMDD convention, the file names are '20221106_001.jpg', '20221106_002.jpg', '20221106_003.jpg', and '20221106_004.jpg' (with 002 and 004 being the names of the backs of the two photos).
      Similarly, if you select 'Customize file names', and if we are scanning the same 2 double-sided photos, the names of the files will be 'custom title_001.jpg', 'custom title_002.jpg', 'custom title_003.jpg', 'custom title_004.jpg' (with 002 and 004 being the names of the backs of the two photos).
      This may be a feature that the people at Epson thought of but the people at Fujitsu overlooked.

Currently they keep scanning side by side in a one-page pdf. Even if I just try to scan one page, it puts it in the smaller format on one side of what appears to be a landscape view. I have tried the settings and everything I know what to do with no success. How do I get scansnap to go back to creating one page documents just like it used to? You are most welcome Deanne. Please excuse the delay in my response. Did you end up getting this issue resolved? It sounds quite strange indeed. If you have tried all of the different settings, I wonder if it would be worth doing a factory default reset to put the scanner back to its original state, and then allow all the new software updates (firmware updates) to run to get the benefit of the latest software. Using the touchscreen, it should be relatively easy to do this (though if you are connected wirelessly, you would need to go through the wireless connection process again because it would lose the information about your network and the authentication information (the password)). Please let me know if that is helpful and if the issue has been resolved. 😊

      Hi Jim. I think that you can configure a profile to create a single file with multiple pages, but I'm not sure if it will record the vendor, values, and tax info. That information is usually used to make the file name, so if there are multiple receipts, say 5 for example, there can be only one file name, so I don't think it could provide all of the information (and you would instead need to make file different files with five different names). Does that seem right? I'm on vacation right now and I'm away from my office so I can't double-check this right now.

      I'm sorry to hear that you're having those issues. In my first career, fixing computers for IBM, I did a lot of PD (problem determination) when troubleshooting computer problems and I always found it helpful to first ask some preliminary questions. In your case, did anything happen that may explain what is happening? For example, did you suffer a power outage? Did the unit suffer any physical damage (fell off a table or was knocked over or anything)? Did you suffer a cybersecurity attack? On another note, have you tried using the iX1600 on another computer? If you try it with a different computer, you may be able to determine if the issue follows the scanner or if the issue is coming from the PC (because it may be suffering system/performance issues). On another note, do you know if you are running the current version of the firmware? That may correct some problems (particularly given the symptoms that you’re describing). I appreciate that you asked me to suggest something and that I have instead asked you a bunch of questions but I’m trying to collect some information so that I can provide more effective help.

      @@bpanigrahi1284. You are most welcome. Thank you for confirming those basics (no power outage or physical damage). To update the firmware, turn on the scanner and you will see a gear icon in the top left corner (on the touch screen). Push that button and then you will get a screen showing 'Maintenance', 'Scanner Settings', Wi-Fi Settings', 'Connecting Devices', and 'Help'. Press on 'Maintenance' and then you will see 'Dust detection', 'Check consumable status', 'Roller cleaning', and 'Update firmware'. Press 'Update firmware'. It should say that it is processing and then show you the Latest Version and the Current Version. I'm looking at mine now and I'm on 0G00. I am going to update to 0H00 right now. Before you update your firmware, can you please check what version you are on and let me know? Note that when you update the firmware, it will advise you that the process takes about '10 minutes or more'. It also says 'do not turn off the ScanSnap while the firmware is being updated' (this is very important as turning the machine off during the update could cause irreparable damage). Once you click the update button it will show 'obtaining the firmware' while it is downloading the firmware from Fujitsu and then it will say ‘Firmware update in progress…. Do not turn off the ScanSnap’. I just updated to the newest update and it seems to be working well. I went back into the ‘Update firmware’ screen and now the latest version (0H00) is showing in blue text, whereas before it showed in red text. Please let me know how that goes and what firmware version you are currently on (before conducting any update).Apparently the following website shows what the firmware updates do (scansnap.com/r/fu) but it may be possible that they do more and fix bugs that they aren’t mentioning. For example, for the “Main Revision of 0H00”, it says that it adds the “Polish language on the LCD touch panel language selector.” Ideally it does more than just that and if your firmware is outdated, perhaps it may fix the issues you are having. If it does not fix the issue, then we’ll have to continue with the process of PD (problem determination) to see what is going on.

    Scansnap home is NOT the only scanning software available for the ix1600. Scansnap Manager can also be used, regardless of what you've stated. And Scansnap Home has a significant productivity problem. NOT recommended.
    Unlike Scansnap Manager, with ScanSnap Home there is no way to rename the file during the scanning process. That is unless you go to the file in the target folder and manually rename it. That's a hassle, especially when you're scanning something like 100 documents. So you have to use Scansnap Manager to get efficient renaming, but ix1600 scanner's pretty user interface is useless. It's a waste of money.
    I addressed this Scansnap Home problem with Fujitsu about six years ago when I bought my ix500. That scanner when belly up about two weeks ago, so I bought the ix1600. I was VERY disappointed that Fujitsu added all sorts of glitzy, useless features to Scansnap Home but made NO effort to fix the renaming problem.
    Besides the renaming problem, my ix1600 is throwing timeout errors. The only way to correct these is to disconnect and then reconnect the scanner from the computer. My computer is a new MacBook Pro M1. I suspect that Fujitsu has not modified its ScanSnap software to be completely compatible with the new Mac M1 architecture. That is both sad and unacceptable.
    I'm considering sending my ix1600 back to the vendor and buying a Raven Pro scanner as a replacement. It's $200 more expensive, but if the software is more stable and productive, it will be worth it.
    Dan.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Před rokem +2

      Hi Dan. Thank you for all that information. Before I made my video, I contacted people at Fujitsu. Perhaps I was mistaken but I understood that ScanSnap Manager was in the process of being phased out and that it was being replaced with ScanSnap Home. I have used both pieces of software and find them to be similar. If one prefers ScanSnap Manager, and if it works with their setup, I certainly encourage them to use it. People should use whatever works best for them.
      As far as file renaming goes, I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had an issue there. Fortunately, I believe that there is a way to rename files using ScanSnap Home during the scanning process. By way of example, please see my video called “ScanSnap iX1300 Q&A - Scan Mix of Legal & Letter Paper?” at about the 1:20 mark. Here is a link to that section of the video: czcams.com/video/VVdeA8WUWAE/video.html. As I show, I configured the scan profile so that a prompt would come up (a box called ‘Scan to Folder’) after scanning that allows me to do things like look through the scanned pages, rotate pages, remove pages, change the name/title of the scanned document, and select the destination folder. It doesn’t work exactly like ScanSnap Manager, but I have used both pieces of software and, in my experience, the ScanSnap Home experience is very similar. It seems to me that you don’t need to go directly to the target file in the folder and manually rename it. You can rename it during the scanning process.
      I’m sorry to hear that your iX500 stopped working after six years of use. I hope that it served you well in that time. I also upgraded to an iX1600 from an iX500.
      Regarding the timeout errors, I’m sorry to hear about that. Every so often people tell me that they have connectivity issues with the iX1600, but it seems that they are usually able to resolve them by contacting Fujitsu technical support. In my experience, the people at Fujitsu know their products very well and are happy to help.
      If you end up getting a Raven Pro, please drop me a line and let me know what you think. I have been thinking of testing a Raven and comparing it to the Fujitsu products. I would love to know about your experience.
      Thanks again Dan. Happy New Year. I hope that 2023 will be a great year for you. 🙂🎆

      Sean, hi.
      I think the connection issue is related to USB. I changed that to Wi-Fi. Hopefully that will fix the problem.
      I discovered that you CAN change a scan’s file name using ScanSnap Home IF you 1) change Managing Options to “Mac(Manage in ScanSnap Home)” and 2) Change the “Title" in the ScanSnap Home “Basic Information” section for a selected document. This changes the document file name! And it works well. It’s slower than ScanSnap Manager, but it solves my renaming issue. I think that is what you were referring to above.
      Regards,
      Dan

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  Před rokem +1

      Hi @@danclark9987 Regarding the connection issue, that is a really smart solution. Kudos. One of my first jobs was fixing computers at IBM. I learned in that job that if there are two ways to do something, and if each is roughly as good as the other, and if one way isn’t working, go ahead and use the other way and call it a day. In your case, if USB isn’t working perfectly, but if Wi-Fi will work well, just don’t use the USB connection. For me, when I install a ScanSnap unit, I use USB to do the initial install, but after that, I never use the USB again. My setup and yours are similar in that respect.
      Regarding changing the file name of a scan, that is great news! I’m really glad to hear that it works well, despite it being slower than ScanSnap Manager. I’m not a big Mac-user so I defer to your wisdom on this one and hope that our conversation may help other Mac-users if they are also experiencing issues around file naming.
      Thanks again Dan. It’s a pleasure chatting with you about this. 🙂

      Sean, hi. It turns out that I was wrong. You can rename a file after scan in ScanSnap Home. It's just a bit more difficult than in ScanSnap Manager.
      First, open ScanSnap Home. Then, after a scan, you should see the file name and its' specs under the "Basic Information" window below the scanned image. You can select the "title" in the Title box and rename it. The scanned file name is changed to the title.
      "Title" is a misnomer and confusing. It's not a title. It's the file name without the file extension. When you change the "Title," the file name is changed too.
      Not as easy as the Scansnap Manager, but it does work and solves my issue.
      Best,
      Dan

    This video could have been so much better except for the annoying background music and you kept saying this person has asked!!! There is no need for mood music!!! There is no need to say this person has asked as we already know these are questions people asked!!! Stop taking uo bandwidth with zero value added!!!
    Take a look at professional broadcasting and what is done - it is there every day and night on your TV!!! Just cooy what they do!!! Especially the weather reports - they say things fast and clearly and don't repeat themselves!!!

    Who in the hell would want to watch a 30 minute video about a scanner??? I don't want to get MARRIED to you, I just wanted to see if the ScanSnap ix1600 was a good product to get. Get the videos down to 3 minutes next time.
