    When I joined in 1966 I had to go to some camp for 3 days of test, exercise and logic. At 15 years old the first test was getting there by train!

    When I joined the RAF back in the Neolithic period the recruitment criteria were slightly less stringent. A mirror was placed closely in front of the candidate’s face. If it steamed up, you were in.

    To be honest mate. In 2009 the RAF was booming. Recently, it is a terrible place to be. Managers and the generation have changed it so it isn't about the people anymore, it's about themselves. People are being promoted for things outside of work, not for their actual job in their respective roles. There is a massive lack of manning, in most trades and this is due to people leaving voluntarily because all the benefits are being taken away.
    Going away is fantastic, the officers are great and they're trying to make changes, but it is poor because people will not let go of the past and use the 'back in my day' line. What doesn't help is there's no way to check that people are going with the times. So it actually doesn't change.
    Another thing about people doing stuff only for themselves. Bases fight eachother. Officers want to impress saying 'i have sorted out our problem' but this is due to the fact they shift it somewhere else, and if the SNCO's are 'Yes men' you screwed because they'll take jobs on from other units to look good infront of people, the officer will look good but the JNCO's and below get fucked over. It is all about individuals and they'll only do something for themselves, especially when it's not them doing work.
    I love the people inside the RAF, i love the job. The negatives is promotion is flawed and managers are not on the same plan as there's no way to check it. And trust me, some managers are awful.

      My work in civvie street (Royal Mail) is much the same as you describe the RAF but with no contract, no subsidised accommodation, no adventure training, no courses, no pay rises, no promotion, etc so the RAF is still a massive step up for me when I get there. Plus the Royal Mail is not a bad civvie employer by any stretch of the imagination

    • @Ash-gy3if
      @Ash-gy3if Před 3 lety

      @@lordracula2461 They have frozen pay rises and continue to do so. Adventure training can be done but is very limited unlike what the AFCO tell you, funding nowadays is zero. You will be able to go to museums etc but the old stuff like paintballing is 'a waste of money' Courses are good, but it has to 'benefit the service' I'm not putting or trying to put you off, this is the truth. Accomadation is good depending on where you go.

      @@georgejenkins125 hmm...i'm not sure what to say, if you've done the practice one on the Raf's website it's pretty similar to that. We did it on iPads, so it works in the same way(they'll give you a sheet of paper for the numerical reasoning) so you're timed individually and you get about 3 minutes at the start of each section to read the instructions and a practice question (and take a minute to breath if you need (bare in mind the sections start by themselves)).
      If you've done the practice pack linked below the video, I'd say the fractions in actual test aren't as complicated, and in the verbal reasoning you can pick out the information easier.
      I did a set of questions from the prep website which was about a shop that sold fireworks which I answered using common sense instead of what they'd written. 🤷

      Luke Fowler hi, I wouldn’t recommend just focusing on one section. Revise, do the test and if your aptitude capability is to the level of the role you have applied for then it is meant to be. I understand how you must be feeling. I’ve applied for medic so I’m hoping my aptitude is good enough to pass for that. But I’m pretty sure for a cyber space role it will focus heavily on numerical and verbal reasoning. Every role has different weighting’s on different sections so it won’t really have much benefit

      When you complete the test you'll be told your scores. These scores will then dictate what roles will be open to you.
