Anoana is a tale of a young girl, a protector of the land. The band used an old script type language that even they do not fully understand. They said this is the beginning of a story not yet told. It is up for interpretation. Pretty much all their stuff is that way. Always beautiful though.

Heilung (German for healing) is classified as an experimental folk band with music that is based on runic inscriptions and text from the Iron and Viking Age. Their founding is rather interesting. Vocalist Kai Uwe Faust worked as a tattoo artist and offered free tattoos to producer Christopher Juul in exchange for help recording some poems. They were joined by Jul's girlfriend Maria Franz to form Heilung in 2015. they use traditional musical instruments, including bones (including a human forearm bone), drums, horn rattles, stringed instruments, and whistles with lyrics from both modern and ancient languages.

The European metalheads landed here in search of harder, faster and louder. Co-founder Kai Uwe Faust is a Death Metal fan and the typical Death growls are an integral part. The logo is metal, they also release on a metal label and perform at metal festivals, among other things. Stylistically they belong to Nordic Ritual Folk:

Heilung use mostly dead languages for their songs, like Old Norse and Porto-German. They're less a band, than a group of historical reenactors, performing what they think their ancestors did for music a thousand years ago in northern Europe. Costumes and instruments are all hand made from natural materials.

  • @n5iln

Heilung (HIGH-lung) don't perform concerts. They hold rituals. Very little of what they sing is in English, with the notable exception of the middle section of Krigsgaldr - which I also recommend.
As others have already said, go find the official video so you get the visuals to match what's being sung.

They describe themselves as 'amplified history'. Many of their lyrics come for coins and such trinkets found in archeological digs around Scandinavia. Much of which hasn't ever been translated if I remember right. I hear that they hand make many, if not all, of their instruments and costumes. Their name is pronounced "Hei" (like the greeting "Hi") and "lung" (like the breathing organ as it is spelled, but with the 'lu' sounding more one half of Lulu's name.). And they are indeed like nothing you've ever heard before. An interesting, haunting, and addicting rabbit hole to dive into.

The instrument is called a tagelharpa, sort of like a harp that you use a bow. Check out her "Hour of the Wolf" song which is trad Norwegian. The group is trying to re-inact rituals from two to three thousand years ago in Northern Europe. Look upon this as indigenous European, shamanistic culture.

As much as I like Heilung's live performances (which are always great) in my opinion it is better to watch their official music videos. This makes it usually easier to understand what they are singing about even without understanding the words.
They use a lot of languages in their music, including German, English, Gothic, Old High German, Icelandic, Latin, Old English, Proto-Norse, Proto-Germanic, and Viking age Old Norse and their music is based on runic inscriptions and texts from the early medieval period.
The noun Heilung is German btw and means healing.

"HIGH LUNG" the girl with the antlers is married to one of the guys silhouetted (up front to the left) who teamed up with the guy chanting to write the music and production. I know they have some tracks used in the tv "Vikings". everything is based on Germanic rituals and beliefs (pagan) before Christianity, so lulu your pretty close when you said she was a deer god. fyi it was a belief system that valued nature not just humans if that makes any sense.

The lyric makes no sense per se, it is Proto Norse, the Germanic language spoken in Germania and Scandinavia from around first century AD to around 1000 AD.
The text are taken from Brackteacts, Roman gold coins, brought back from war or trade with the Eastern or Western Roman Empire. Europe was changing in those centuries, the Brackteacts are found from around 4th century AD to 7-8th Century AD.
Europe was moving the germanic tribes encroached and moved toward the Western Roman Empire, which was weak from wars and bad disastrous governing. It was just before the comming of the Huns and Attila, Attila was named the scourge of Humanity, the Huns army set all the tribes in Europe moving, The Longobards, Vandals, Goths, Frankians, Burgundians. Many young men from Scandinavia acted as mercenaries for either the Western Roman Empire or against them.
They brought home these gold coins and flattened them and inscribed them with runic texts and Norse iconography.
They where used to ward off bad spirits, with runic spells or they where inscribed in honor of a god, the Cult of Odin appeared at this time, or they just simply told what kind of man or woman the wearer was, they where used as jewelry around the neck or on their capes.
One found not far from where i live simply stated " he was Odins man".
So these are the text they sing.
Maria the lead singer is robed in a Scandinavian iron age shamanistic custom, and the Male Shaman is actually a shaman dress 9000 years old.
    Hope the explanation made sense.,👍
It is actually also your heritage.
It is Indo European, as i can see you 3 ladies also are, you also speak an Indo European language.
The Indo Europeans brought this pantheon to Europe around 7-6000 years ago. It has a ground pillar in its belief system a sky father " Pater Diuz" like the Romans Had Jupiter, the Greek Zeus and the Germancic Tribes Odin.
The Proto Indo Europeans the Yamnaya tribe brought this with them knto Europe from the Pontic steppe, which is now called Ukraine, which was part of the Eurasian steppe, strecthing from Western most China to Hungary. The Yamnaya was an DNA ad mixture of Caucasian hill/Mountain tribes and western siberian hunter gatheres from Ural.
They where a fierce warlike people, that rode war chariots and who where Horse warriors, they meet on the pontic steppe and became the Yamnaya, they migrated into Europe prober, and met the Anatolian stone age farmers, they either absorbed them, drove them off or killed them. These where the proginotors of the Indo Europeans in Europe.
So a part of your heritage.
Ano means Mother/Grandmother in proto norse, Landawariar means Landwarrior
