  • Standing at almost 2m tall, the Kilnasaggart Inscribed Stone is regarded as being one of the oldest inscribed stones in Ireland. It stands on the ancient road which ran from Tara in County Meath and through the Moyry Pass to Dunseverick Head on the North Antrim Coast.
It has a total of 13 crosses on its faces and the inscription INLOC SOTANI MMARNI TERNOHC MACCERAN BICERCUL PETERAP STEL (This place, bequeathed by Ternohc, son of Ceran Bic, under the patronage of Peter, the Apostle). Ternohc’s death was recorded around 714, which sets the stone in the 8th century.
The Pillar stands in a small enclosure in the townland of Edenappa in County Armagh. It is at the edge of a graveyard that was excavated in the 1960s - these excavations revealed both stone built and dug graves. There are several small stones lying around the standing stone and some of these stones bear crosses.
    Location - 54.07228, -6.37881

This is remarkable iDavid. So many standing stones, dolmens etc just sitting there over the centuries. Iome for someone with a lot of time to get them into some sort of order and make trails out for each county? It wouldn't be too hard to do becuae you are doing a lot of the ground work for them already! lol

Is it stating that this place is given by Ternoch to be held as a holy place ?

I was wondering about that. Your interpretation makes perfect sense. You are now an honorary Celt for putting it into words we can all understand! :)
