Ashford, Surrey Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Surrey, and around 15 miles west, and slightly south, of central London, is the town of Ashford (though historically in Middlesex up until 1965, and not to be confused with the town of Ashford in Kent!).
Ashford appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as 'Exeforde'. A settlement grew from around the banks of the River Ash which flows into the Thames nearby.
For centuries, Ashford was a rural village. The arrival of the railway in 1848 ushered in major growth to the area. The station is situated on the Waterloo to Reading Line, providing access to Waterloo station in around 45 minutes, and Reading station in around an hour, with a change at the neighbouring station in Staines.
Due to its location, essentially on the border between Surrey and Greater London, Ashford is a popular commuter base for those working in the capital. It is also within very easy reach of Heathrow Airport, which is located just three miles to the north.
Famous people from Ashford, Surrey include Ray Dorset of the band Mungo Jerry.
