Tommy Robinson is the co-founder and former spokesman and leader of the English Defence League (EDL) "street protest" movement, and also founded the European Defence League. For a short time in 2012 Robinson was joint Party Vice Chairman of the British Freedom Party. He led the EDL from 2009 until 8 October 2013, when he was persuaded to quit the organisation and to discuss alternative ways of tackling extremism with the think tank Quilliam.

I’m absolutely gobsmacked about all of this. Even though I’ve had a similar experience to Tommy growing up. From the age of 13 I was attacked by Muslim gangs in Telford, racially motivated attacks….nobody cared because I was white, how is that fair to a 13 yr old who knew nothing about race or anything really apart from playing football. I genuinely hate our country for what they’ve done to this man. I feel ashamed to call myself British. What would our ancestors say who fought in two world wars against racism and fascism say? Thank you Oxford Union for having the courage to allow him to speak, although this really shouldn’t be the case.
And to those fools shouting racist and fascist at the start, including the first woman who asked the question - you’re all complete idiots on the wrong side of what’s right. Yeah there are certainly problems with the muslim community and there are certainly good reasons for it too. My take on it is the main problem is the politically correct. Certainly Trump and Brexit were some very nice movements against the politically correct, but I think more needs to be done.

I neither agree or disagree with Tommy. I feel that his original message has become distorted. Through the Government ignoring him and dismissing him as a racist bigot. I suspect he isn't a racist or a bigot. I do feel that his message is too one track now and has become an unhealthy obsession. There is a question to be answered. That is at the height of the EDL local authorities with apparent or perceived Sharia Zone problems were allowing Tommy and the EDL to do their protesting for them. Rather than address the issue themselves. This is something the Government should realise. The integration in this country is needed. Successive governments have ignored this and it manifested itself with many through Brexit. Dialogue is needed now across the spectrum. Tommy it is clear you have support in large numbers. Many may not support you 100%. They would also endorse parts of your complaint. I urge you now to withdraw and let the momentum you have gained do the work for you. I genuinely fear protagonists on both sides will take to the streets. that will end badly and with blood.

And have you grew up in areas with Muslim populations? My question is; what is our identity and culture in the UK... we can’t identify it exactly, Aberdeen Muslims are massively charitable and run food banks, if that isn’t what we want in our culture then what is??? You talk about an erosion of who we are yet it’s not obvious to the public what British values even are, stop the anti Muslim agenda as a lot of their values we would be lucky to adopt - from what I’ve seen in Aberdeen
I get your point however: the majority of the uk don’t belong to a religion, the majority of ‘British’ people aren’t fully British we all have heritage from other countries and places - we need to change this ‘stop people from coming in’ yet our ancestors came in at one point. Muslims speak our language by majority so stop the shit and stop the hate, there’s enough of it in this country and people like tommy Robinson aren’t solving anything just making it worse
Look at PEW polls for British muslims on some key issues and you will understand how Brtain will radically change with increasing Muslim population.
I get your point ray, however do u really see the UK becoming subject to sharia law... I really don’t, a lot of this has stemmed from the media claiming that there is a problem with Islam in my opinion, Christianity aims to do the same - spread its influence it happened across Africa etc, but they returned to normal. Muslims do not have the power to take over a country like the UK as they aren’t a government or empire - the likes of which took over Africa. We are safe and people shouldn’t live in fear or fear Islam, this country is great because it’s tolerant let’s not change that

@@Soldier9811 Did you watch Tommys full talk? How far should tolerance stretch? The key thing from the talk is -- there are problems -- that need resolving. You must understand, that just because some people you crossed paths with seemed nice, it doesn't negate the fact that there are serious problems. Maybe you're not really aware of these issues as they havnt affected you personally, or you've not bothered to see what they are, I dont know, but there are problems that will only continue and get worse.
