I bought my GX4 for my NEW EDC. I wanted a small 9mm that would be the best for self defense, concealment, yet have quality and be dependable. Purchased the GX4 at my local Scheels and got the last one in stock at that time. 329.00 Put the Amerigo Glow Dot front sight on and a big+ over the white factory front sight. 29.95 Received the pinky extentions (2) for the two 11 rd mags that were included and that completed the grip for me....good to go with my pinky on board. 9.98 Of course my 13 rd mag has the extension. That's all I needed to do get the GX4 the way I wanted it on my hip.
Checkout the LakeLine LLC ported barrel in Black for the GX4.... Makes a world of difference on the follow up shots and takes the snappiness out of it.
@@larrygarot8909 get the ported barrel that is not threaded. It is much better. It has the port on top of the barrel as it is slightly longer than the OEM barrel. I have had mine for a year now and tames the snappiness. Good luck
I know I’m late to this but I’ll chime in. I also own both of these pistols. Both have been 100% reliable. I do like the sights and the trigger on the shield a little bit more. The smith has a lighter trigger which for me makes me more accurate and the sights on my gx4 had to be replaced due to them drifting. Specifically the rear sight had a problem with moving. I do like the gx4 magazines better than the smith magazines. Mecgar is just hard to beat. They’re both great pistols. I would give the edge slightly to the smith but mainly because it’s been around since 2014 in one iteration or another. Hopefully Taurus will keep up its trend of improving the quality of their firearms.
You can use a shell casing to disassemble the GX4, also " Pinky Extensions " are available for the 11 Round Magazines for 4.99 as well as 11 Round Mags with the Pinky Extension for 36.00 @ Taurus. Love your videos. Thank you
@@chicanoshaver474 Taurus could've created a lot of goodwill by just including the Pinky Extensions ( Something that probably cost them a nickel to produce ) knowing pretty much everyone would want, instead of gouging them with Cost + Shipping to get them.
@@Papaw58 I feel like they will include the pinky extension later on when less ppl buy the pistol and they will call it a combo not to also mention I was kinda disappointed it didn’t come with night sights for the same price sar usa came with night sights a rail and couple more goodys
I have the entire GX4 lineup and even though there’s no rail on the original Veridian makes a laser that is custom designed for the X4 ! Works fantastic! The new versions of the X4 are all railed ! Great pistols!
Excellent review... I own both of these guns as well as the Ruger Max 9 and really like them all but the Ruger is my least favorite because it has the worst trigger... I think Taurus did a great job with the GX4 and I agree it is the best striker fire trigger Taurus has ever produced so far...
Very nice video. I have been going back and forth between these two and this helps a lot. Thanks for not shooting in the video. That is a pointless waste of time as a gun going off is a gun going off and I think most content providers who do this are just trying to show off. It is annoying.
Awesome video, good job. I've compared the 3 at the store including the new Ruger, Waiting for my GX4. Good unbiased choice from a normal human and not a brand snob. Smith plus is equivalent size to the G3C. GX4 with Tritium site with the 13rnd mag and it's still cheaper than the Smith and Wesson.
Ditto to the post below. I’ve shot them both but the Shield is just in a league of its own. The Tarus is a great little gun but the Shield is just a little better IMHO !
I just ordered a gx4 toro for $225 and then there is a $30 rebate. Also got the gx4 xl Toro for about $10 more. Can’t wait to get them and feel out how they shoot compared to my other micro 9s.

Top gun reviewer's with thousands of subscribers will let you know about the trigger if there is a REAL issue. If you're worried about it get the Taurus G3C comes with 3 12rnd magazines. Same size as the S&W Plus and you'll have money left for some Tritium sight, Keep Tinkering trigger, the 15 and 17rnd mag, holster and an Olight. Yes all that and still cheaper.
Lets not blow this out of proportion with all the GX4's that are in the hands of consumers. If it was a HUGE problem there would be alot more press on it and a response from Taurus. Have not seen the 'trigger'problems that the 5 or 6 vids on CZcams show with my GX4 but nice to be aware of. Maybe you remember the Sig 365 had multiple issues when new on the market. Now it's been hailed has the best concealed carry handgun.
Update: I went back and looked at all the videos - 6 total. 1 was for all of 31 seconds with no explanation to speak of. 2 were from one individual. 1 that had an update saying he had a barrel problem and Taurus sent him a new barrel. Corrected issue. 2 others. Just saying.... Now I have close to 1,000 rds through my GX4 still with no issues.
i know this is a year later, but i've got several hundred rounds through my gx4 and the trigger has smoothed out to 4lbs 7 oz for me, no issues at all
I got both guns and love them both. But the shield plus is in a lane of its own. Not taking anything from the gx4 but I'm just saying.
How much difference does the weight difference play? Noticeable when loaded?

I own both of these pistols. I give a slight edge to the shield plus because the gx4 can be finicky with ammo.
The factory mag extension is really cheap and short. Perfect size. Talon grips make a grip extension that fits perfectly. Pinky problem solved.

I just picked up a Shield Plus with optics cut and night sights. Was it worth the extra cost? I’ll let you know if I ever drop it.
To me, and this is just me, lack of being optic ready is not an issue for a carry gun.
