    Thank you Paul for your comments on this issue. In fact, the story has been rejected as completely unreliable by all the learned commentators of the Qur’an. Ibn-e-Kathir and Razi among them. The renowned leaders of Muslim religious thought, well versed in the science of Hadith, such as Aini, Qadi Ayyad and Nawawi, have regarded it as pure invention.
    No trace of this story is to be found in the six reliable collections of Hadith. Imam Bukhari, whose collection, the Sahih Bukhari, is regarded by Muslim scholars as the most reliable book of Hadith and who himself was a contemporary of Waqidi to whom goes the unenviable credit of forging and reporting this story, makes no mention of it. Noe does the great historian, Ibn-e-Ishaq, who was born more than 40 years before him.

    • @justtosuffer398
      @justtosuffer398 Před rokem

      This is false. There are TWO or MORE SAHIH narrations that confirm the incident, as well as several Sahih Mursal reports that provide additional evidence. Bukhari also STRONGLY implies the incident occurred in the hadith where the Prophet, the Sahaba, and the pagans all prostrate in unison.

    • @justtosuffer398
      @justtosuffer398 Před rokem

       @حسن
      If you wish to deny reality, that's fine. If you want to actually apply the hadith methodology in an honest and truthful way as a Sunni Muslim is supposed to do, then there is no doubt that this "addition" actually completes the narration.
      I would suggest reading Shahab Ahmed's book on the incident, particularly riwayahs 40-46. I wonder if you'll think that the narration is weak even then? (Let's not kid ourselves - we both know you're not going to do it because you're just here to confirm your bias - you don't care about anything else.)

    • @cowdyayaad6378
      @cowdyayaad6378 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@justtosuffer398There is no sahih connected chains of this story without any hidden defect (for example if a chain appears connected yet the same chain by other narrators are not connected, that's a hidden defect). There are only some sahih mursal chains. But that doesn't mean sahih as it doesn't go back to any first generation muslim let alone witness (ibn abbas isn't a witness as he was yet to born so it's more appropiate to call him 1st generstion muslim and the chain to him is not reliable).
      Bukhari indicates the opposite as it indicates the prostration was to Allah.
      The story doesn't make sense due to the below reasons:
      1. The wording is foreign to Quran.
      Form 8 of hoped for has never been used elsewhere. Cranes have never been used. The passive voice sounds odd based on the flow from the rhetorical question asked by Allah before and after the verse because it is hoped for by pagans. Just few words yet so many odd things.
      2. It doesn't fit anywhere in the surah.
      Have you considered about lat and uzza? And the third one manat? They are the highest cranes whose intercession is hoped. Are for you males and for Him females? That would then be an unjust division.
      The above makes no sense. However without the satanic verses, it makes sense. The pagans are asked if they really thought about the implication of attributing goddess lat, uzza and manat as daughters to Allah and sons being something which is appropiate for themselves.
      3. All muslims prostrates. But that makes no sense because they should be in a state of confusion. On the other hand, the bukhari narrative where pagans prostrated to Allah (not goddesses) make sense because they thought of Allah as the supreme deity and prostrating to Him after eloquent praise of Him ending with an order to prostrate to Him makes sense.
      4. The prostration happened at the end followed by the verse which says "so prostrate to Allah and worship". But why would they suddenly prostrate to goddesses who were mentioned way before and not to Allah who was just spoken about?
      5. Throughout the Quran he had been preaching against polytheism. The surah najm as is appears today continue that. But the satanic verses don't. This verse itself wouldn't make him get support from pagans after all what he has done. And the only support he had from montheists would have fallen appart. There is no reason to make up this verse and there has been no report of apostacy due to it (on the contrary monotheists supposedly suddenly prostrated to goddesses).
      In simple words, this story has many holes in it.

    @user-nu7fo3tc4b Před 3 lety +199

    There are many factors that shows that this story does not make sense at all.
    1. The verse in the Quran originally starts as a rebuke/criticism to the idols (derogatory questioning), but then Satan allegedly praises the idols, but then it goes back to the Quran rebuking them. Rebuking and criticizing something, then praising them, and rebuking them again doesn’t make any sense linguistically and contextually.
    2. The word used for “cranes” were never used in Pre-Islamic poetry. The word used for “cranes” were never used to refer to the Pagan idols either. If this story was true, the Pagans wouldn’t even have prostrated because nobody has ever referred to their idols as “cranes”, this would be the first time this has happened if the story is true. Satan could’ve used another term for the idols that would’ve been familiar to the Pagans and would’ve made them understand and recognize.
    3. The story goes that the Pagans prostrated when they heard the Satanic verse specifically. In all SAHIH HADITHS of this incident, not one reports that the Pagans prostrated after this particular verse, neither does any Sahih Hadith report that they prostrated twice. All Sahih Hadiths on this incident reports that all the Pagans prostrated after the final verse of the Surah, which says to prostrate to Allah/God.
    4. The chain of narration for this story is very weak on top of that, and it doesn’t even go back to the Prophet. Not only that, there are many different versions of the story. Some say this happened in the Meccan Kaaba during a gathering there. Some say this happened during prayer in the Kaaba. Some say this was at a random gathering. Some say the Prophet was sleepy. This hints and indicates that this story is untrue and a rumor if there are so many versions of the story that exists.

      curious note:
      if you are native Arab speaker or know Arabic very well you would see the language of Muhammad pbuh alone, is enough of a proof of his prophethood. just small example, see the dua He, pbuh, asked us to make when we wake up.. Allhamadu lilah althi ahyanaa baad ma amatana wa elihi an nushoor.. that alone cannot be said except by a Prophet...
      unbelievable style !! I can write pages and pages of how amazing style and content of our Beloved Prophet, may God peace be upon him.
      Many Arabic speaking people with a lot of knoweldge in Islam whom I have pointed the lingustic style of that dua and that it could not have been said except by a REAL PROPHET,. You should see how their eyes glow, some know way better than me in Islam... yet we become numb with so much repetitions of dua etc.. they remind me of the hadith whenever they see me.. still amazed at the observation...
      let alone Quran, which state expansion of universe, "we created heaven with might and making it expanding" 51-47 .. "we sent down iron" both confirmed just recently.... so what if one view was right or another one about the so called satanic verses... .
      People should not be afraid to take one view or another from the scholars of the past.. .. Allah knows our intention is pure and allows it, and we are not going to be more protective of God's religion more than God Almighty..
      God let this be, But he made Quran protected.. and allow different views between solid scholars.. no fear to choose one view or another..
      but to me I agree this account of satanic verses is pure lie.

      @@sutil5078 I can't speak like Shakespeare that doesn't prove Shakespeare is from God does it?
      Muhammeds Arabic was unique for it's time since these men were fundamentally poets who worked hard to make their language beautiful since it had to be expressed with oral words.

    • @sutil5078
      @sutil5078 Před 2 lety +10

      Shakespearer has a literary style. but the prophet style is in ANOTHER LEAGUE even to us who have some understanding of classical poetry let alone to the Meccan of that time ...
      I am not talking about rhetoric and use of strange words, nor rhyme here, or rarity of word use which the Prophet rarely done. I am talking about higher level of language use, without even mentioning content.. Shakespeare is like many top level writers in world literature and had advantage of english being formed as a new language which also allows for bigger margin of novelty. but the Prophet language, among many other things is innovative yet simple in a well established language when people where at their best in that langauge yet hadiths are not hard to understand at all in most cases.. unless you don't have intermediate of classical Arabic language of that time.. I do, I used memorize poetry a lot , I write poetry too.. if you find yourself looking up classical Arabic words, it would make it as if it new language for you if that is the case you may miss many nuances of the wording of the prophet hadiths. all would sound new and dictionary tasting understanding.
      But if you know classical Arabic a bet, without being expert, the word Nushhur for example is a substantively novel (novel use of the noun) and I bet that use in that form never been used before by those classical Arabs yet it is understood..
      the fact he said "
      All praise is for Allah who gave us life after having taken it from us and unto Him is the resurrection. Al-Bukhari 11:113, Muslim 4:2083 is not the hole story.. literally he said praise God who raised us alive (ahyana) after he caused us to die (amatana) " calling the sleeping cycle death and giving life, instead of sleeping and awakening is never heard or said before .. The word nushuur entails religious concept novel to pagans but they understand it..
      It is reported that Utba (father of Hudheifa rw, and Hind ra ) who was an enemy of the prophet but the softest among them, when he tried to convince his son to leave Islam he had a dialogues with his son.. the son tried to invite him to it and in one instance he said to him , I forgot the exact sentence but he was warning him of Jahanam!
      First, background of Utuba , he was the softest among the Prophet enemy (and I may add if it were not for his fear to be shamed by his friends he may have had listen more and become muslim himself ) he even try to convince Quraish to return and not to fight mulsims in Badr he tried hard, but abu jahal accused him saying "coward yah yah because your son is with them " so he stayed to proof them wrong and fought and died. (a reminder to avoid bad company)
      Well, while his son used the word Jahanam which is phonetically scary sounding word, he was amazed and told him "what are these words, jahanam , day of judgment etc"
      Jahanam is used by Arabs for a very deep valley only etc etc..
      So God , and by extension his prophet, used it as another name of hellfire , though some poets may use a word for another context.. but the level of burrowing is basic and does not have lasting effect..
      Take a look at the expression "Yum al Guiaama!! " (Day of Judgement, but literally day of Standing, long standing) but in feminine form!!! (side note it is related to what we muslims call tahajud which is done at night we call it guiyaam because it is long standing in prayers and related to awakening from sleep ) if you said I will do guiaam to a pagan Meccans he would be surprised and would understand that you will do some sort of activity related to awakening or standing but never used before and if you tell him THE DAY of Guiaama it gives eerie feeling.. especially in a particular derivative form in the feminine form, Haggah, al tammah (calamity) also ending in "ma" sound which give an activity of sort. etc
      Dear Majeed, this HIGH LEVEL of ishtigag ( derivation) of such words from another and in ABUNDANCE in the language of the prophet, pbuh, is in a whole other league.. yet still understood!! that is not easy to achieve both.
      Still it goes deeper than that...
      We haven't discussed the content and wisdom of the Prophet saying nor the brevity and eloquence, nor do I pretend to know a lot .. but it is truly truly fascinating if you meditate on His saying, pbuh, with even intermediate background of Classical Arabic language not full native command of the language to see its glory.
      You may find Shakespeare the best English poet or writer in history, but he did not claim to be a prophet, he did not preach knowledge about God, rather about mundane love , exaggerated use of emotion which all poets are prone to use in excess "I will die for you etc etc" which is nice but full of flowery and exaggeration . He left no followers that deem him a prophet not even as a saint.
      if anyone read this and find it useful please give "likes" so other may benefit from it, and participate in Ajar as it is promised to us. Ameen.

      There is no saheeh isnaad from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) concerning this report, which says that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) “recited Soorat al-Najm to the mushrikeen until he reached the verses (interpretation of the meaning) ‘Have you then considered Al-Laat, and Al-‘Uzzaa (two idols of the pagan Arabs),And Manaat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third?’ [al-Najm 53:19-20 - interpretation of the meaning]. Then the Shaytaan put words into the mouth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and he said: ‘they are the exalted gharaneeq, whose intercession is to be hopedfor.’ The kuffaar were pleased with this praise of their three idols, so they prostrated.”

    The word in Suraht Alhaj verse 52 "تمنىء" has two meanings, the first is (wish) and the other is "recite", but the term of the meaning recites is too rare in the Arabic language and the term (تمنى) means wish according to the Quran linguistic structure, so in the context in this verse it means (wish) and many scholars agree it means wish.
    Therefore, the Tafseer of this Ayah especially the word (تمنى-wish) is wishing that the Allah's rules would go through to all people's lives smoothly but, satan interferes by misleading people, and placing obstacles ( such as harassing, calling them crazy, saying that what they came with is just tales from the ancients...etc.) in the way of the prophets, but Allah protects his messengers and the messenge they came with by punishing the disbelievers as that happened with the prophet's people before.
    In sum, there is no prophet that got mislead or lost his message ever, his people believe, or they get punished.
    NOTE* The story that mentioned in the video has a weak Isnad (Chain of authors), and it is agreed to be false by scholars.

It's interesting to learn that some major scholars did accept it as fact like Ibn Taymiyyah, and I found myself assuming his position before you mentioned his take on it. If it indeed happened, it only goes to show the desperation of the Devil and affirms the prophethood of Mohammed (saw) from the perspective that the Devil shouldn't have needed to intervene if the rest message was inspired by him in the first place, as Christians like to claim. It's a case of them wanting their cake and eating it. Lets not forget the scripture that they accept says Jesus himself was tempted by the Devil, so they should reject him too by that standard.

    I asked our Imam about how people are being affected by Doubts (Shubhaat). He gave a very profound metaphor. “ Have you noticed that people who have doubts are never talking about the pillars of Islam , the articles of faith the vast spiritual fruits of meditation (Dhikr.) INSTEAD They forget all this !.... he then asked ...Will you throw away an entire beautiful elaborate garden just because you see one or two cockroaches?”
    He was referring to single narrated hadeeth that lay people pick up on and they focus so much on them when the have the majestic Quran and what come from it.
    Secondly he said that in any court 1 witness would never suffice to caste doubts on the character of a person let alone the Prophets character.
    Lastly rather that leaving Islam because of thinking that all Hadeeth are like Quran. Let them believe in the Quran and mutawatir hadeeth.
    Let’s not be stubborn and drive people away because we insist on a report at the expense of their entire faith.

    My first disappointment, or rather non-agreement, yet still with the highest amount of admiration for the amazing work you are putting out. Expected eventually of course, and in a topic like this with early precedent it is no surprise. I however completely reject the story of the Satanic Verses and consider its association with the passage often linked to it, and which you mentioned in this video as its justification 22:52-54, to be a travesty in our tradition.
    I actually wrote a Twitter thread "The Satanic Verses and removing its association with the Qur'an and verse 22:52" about a month ago where I show, quite conclusively in my opinion, that that passage can in no way be linked to this story.
    The gist is this; the casting of Shaytan is not into the Revelation, nor the Prophet's speech, nor even the Prophet's heart, rather it is into the hearts of those whom the Prophet wishes/hopes to guide ... _they_ are the Prophet's wish and hope. It is into their hearts that Shaytan casts. 22:52-54 is a profound passage which deals with the interplay between a Prophet's attempts at guidance, Shaytan's attempts at thwarting that guidance, God's intervention, and the reason why this is allowed to occur.
    For a fuller explanation I encourage anyone reading this to read my short thread here;
    twitter.com/Quranic_Islam/status/1375153603611033600?s=19

    To Paul and muslim brothers, can you help me understand this?
    The original verse base on Early Islamic historians
    Ibn Humayd-Salamah-Muhammad b. Ishaq-Yazid b. Ziyad al-Madani-Muhammad b. Ka’b al-Qurazi: When the Messenger of God saw how his tribe turned their backs on him and was grieved to see them shunning the message he had brought to them from God, he longed in his soul that something would come to him from God which would reconcile him with his tribe. With his love for his tribe and his eagerness for their welfare it would have delighted him if some of the difficulties which they made for him could have been smoothed out, and he debated with himself and fervently desired such an outcome. Then God revealed:
    By the Star when it sets, your comrade does not err, nor is he deceived; nor does he spel out of (his own) desire… and when he came to the words:
    Have you thought upon al-Lat and al- ‘Uzza and Manat, the third, the other?
    Satan cast on his tongue, because of his inner debates and what he desired to bring to his people, the words:
    These are the high-flying cranes; verily their intercession is accepted with approval.
    When Quraysh heard this, they rejoiced and were happy and delighted at the way in which he spoke of their gods, and they listened to him…
    [Other Events up to the Hijrah pg. 109]
    173 likewise prostrated themselves because of the reference to their gods which they had heard, so that there was no one in the mosque, believer or unbeliever, who did not prostrate himself.
    {the pagan meccans were pleased that the qurqn and mohammad gave respect to their goddesses}.
    [But Mohammad realized that the revelation didn’t come from Allah]
    Then Gabriel came to the messenger of Allah and said, “Muhammad, what have you done? You have recited to the people that which I did not bring to you from God, and you have said that which was not said to you.” Then the Messenger of allah was much grieved and feared Allah greatly, but Allah sent down a revelation to him, for He was merciful to him, consoling him and making the matter light for him, informing him that there had never been a prophet or a messenger before him who desired as he desired and wished as he wished but that satan had cast words into his recitation, as he had cast words on Muhammad’s tongue…
    [176. Surah 53. This version of the false verses has la-turja, “to be desired or hoped for.”
    That evening Gabriel came to him and reviewed the surah with him, and when he reached the two phrases which Satan had cast upon his tongue he said, “I did not bring you these two.” Then the Messenger of Allah said, “I have fabricated things against Allah and have imputed to Him words which He has not spoken.”
    [1196] Muhammad at Mecca. Pg. 112
    He remained grief-stricken and anxious until the revelation of the verse: Never did we send a messenger or a prophet before you… to the words… Allah is knower, wise.
    {Allah comforted mohammad with this matter}
    Qur’an 22:52-53 “Never did We send a Messenger or a prophet before you but when he recited the revelation or narrated or spoke, Satan threw (some falsehood) in it. But Allah abolishes that which Satan throws in. Then allah establishes His revelations. And Allah is All-knower, All-wise. That He may make what is thrown in by Satan a trial for those in whose hearts is a disease and whose hearts are hardened.”
    {Comment: v.52- canceling is already wise for allah.}
    {another point for verse 53- allah allows satan to deliver false revelation through allah’s true prophet inorder to test people. We’re not only talking about the early muslims historians, but the qur’an itself revealed it, and yet a lot most muslims believed mohammad never delivered these satanic verses, and that the story was made up.
    To add up, these are other Early muslim sources that proves these verses were authentic part of qur’an.

And at the end of the Surah the words and its eloquence and the meaning of them were very powerful and everyone were afraid of the promises and reminders for them, and the last verse is a prostration verse, the prophet ﷺ prostrated and behind him the Muslims and the pagans also. All who were there prostrated except 2 people.
    And after that the pagans who were not there in that event blamed the others pagans who prostrated, and they told them that Mohammed said something nice about our gods “the part you read” and we prostrated. They said that and lied to cover their shame to their people.

      @@NeoLegendX That's your opinion and views but they're wrong because you've never read the Gospels, so you don't know who Jesus is.
      You've been brainwashed your entire life by the distortion's and lies in the Quran.
      Yes Jesus recited the " Shema" and said the greatest commandment was to love God, but what else did Jesus preach?
      What was Jesus' mission for coming into this world?
      Jesus said," For God so loved the world that he gave his Only Begotten Son so whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it but that the world might be saved through him,". John 3:16-17.
      Jesus said," He has given his Son the full right to judge so that all will honor the Son in the same way as they honor the Father.
      He that honoreth not the Son honoreth not the Father who sent him". John 5:28.
      " For what my Father wants is that all who see the Son and believe in him should have Eternal Life. And I will raise them to life on the last day". John 6:40.
      " Just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, in the same way the Son gives life to those he pleases to give it to". John 5:21.
      Regarding the Holy Spirit,
      Jesus said," Believe me all man's sins can be forgiven and all their blasphemies. But these can never be forgiveness for the blasphemy agaisnt the Holy Spirit. That is an eternal sin". Mark 3:29.
      John 14:26. The Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you".
      After Jesus' reserrection he appeared to his disciples and told them," Therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit".
      Matthew 28:19
      Jesus is God the Don, the second person of the Holy Trinity.
      God the Father, Jesus his Son and the Holy Spirit.
      One God in three persons.
      This is the Holy Trinity.
      Jesus us the Only way to the Father and eternal Life.
      " I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father but by me". John 14:6

    Salman Rushdie was asked in writting about the sources whereabouts by a great Islamic Scholar called one Abul Hassen Nadvy (RA) in India
    They're found in a certain library in England was the response.
    So, this great Sheikh undertook a journey to England to have a look at.
    He found those books and requested the librarian to remove them all from the library as they are all just mere fabrications.
    Accordingly, the librarian agreed to do so.
    Still, Salman Rushdie failed to correct his wrong doings.

    I think the ownership of the incident in itself is all the more confirmation of the sincerity of the revelation.
