I have a Helix MD and for anyone else wondering, the best way to mount it is to get a 1''' diamond base ram ball, Ram double socket arm and another 1'' ram ball that screws into the gear trac. The diamond base perfectly fits the back of the Helix controls and it is way easier to fit beside the seat.
Any idea how much a replacement battery would be
Cost as much as the hobie motor...my kayak was only suppose to be a cheap and fun kayak now I'm running in the $4000 and still wanting more things on it ... it's getting ridiculous
Hey man. I just got the motor. Super excited. Did you happen to install a side scan transducer with it? Did you put it on the side or in the scupper hole in front of the motor drive? I'm worried the turbulence from the propel will affect the transducer. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience
How did you end up mounting it? Is it ok mounting it directly behind the prop of the Helix MD?
I purchased the motor and have used it a few times. You're right, it is awesome! just wondering which rudder system you use. I have seen some comments that the WS rudder kit is problematic with lifting out of the water and installation is a pain.
Great video about the motor; I do have an additional question. How difficult is it to steer with just using a paddle? I don't want to go through the hassle (and expense) of installing a rudder. I noticed you're operating without the rudder so any input would be appreciated. I have a Radar 115 and the motor is charged and ready to test out. Thanks!
Great review. Great production quality. In the future try to speak a little louder or mic up, it was a little hard to hear you. Fantastic job otherwise. I'll be getting a radar 135 soon, it's nice to have this option later on.
Michael O'Neill yeah I tired upping the Audio in post production but it made it sound cracky and overbearing at times. But will work on that in the future!
After owning it awhile can you comment on whether it's worth 2k? I have a Radar 135 and was considering getting this but have also seen some really creative ways of mounting a trolling motor for far less money.
Rick Albert it's definitely worth it. It's so light weight and easy to transport. Trolling motors are heavy (including the battery) it makes it difficult to transport. I can literally just toss this thing in my back seat no worries. But the best part is that it fits in the flex pod. It's super convenient and makes my life a lot easier. I don't go on the water without it
Can you post this installed on your thrasher
Great video. It looks like when you drop the drive in the boat that it doesn't seat all the way down, I can see the lower part of the bolts. Any reason why? Are the bolts stopping it from dropping all the way in?
MrBigFishJoe it sits flush when I clamp it down. It's tight so the motor doesn't rattle or anything
Can't find anything on how low the prop sits under the kayak when installed. Any info on this? Great video man
J Rob it scares me sometimes having a $2000 motor sticking out of the bottom of my kayak so I don't push it passed 2-3 feet. But I'd say it probably sticks out about 8-10'inches
Same mistake Old Town made with the MK. Should've just designed a motor and controller that will work with any 12V battery. Or just a 12V lithium battery. Fully incorporated proprietary battery systems are a bad idea. I like the design though and the fact the same kayak can accommodate a pedal system and a motor. Old Town could've easily done that as well. They did not...
Will the new 915WH battery from torqeedo fit on this motor?
That proprietary battery is gonna hurt when you have to replace it.
It is a lithium battery. Those batteries are meant to last a very long time. Usually worth the price of them.
Missing a little water?
How fast does it go and how long the battery last you ?
6mph tops. I was on the lake for 8 hours Saturday and it lasted the entire time. Supposedly will last up to 20 miles but that's not a full speed.
Paddling speed is usually usually 2-2.5 mph
How shallow will it go?
I think the recommended depth is two feet but it will go less than that.
motor looks like junk. hope it lasts for you.
robert jones you mad bro
Agreed, Costs $100 max to manufacture.
Over priced.
