- Here is a bit of a different vlog from my amazing time in Karimun. Karimunjawa is a group of islands abut 6h ferry out of Middle east Java, Indonesia. If you have the possibility to go there I would strongly recommend it. There are barely any tourist, you have amazing scenery, beaches and corals and the locals there are really nice!
As soon as I arrived on the island they took me out on a boat to a cool little island and there we did some snorkeling and just chilled until the sun set. The next day me and Seliem (a german guy I met) explored the island on a scooter and I DROVE A SCOOTER for the first time! quite exciting. I had days filled with stargazing, ukulele playing, fresh seafood from markets, great company and snorkeling on one of the most beautiful places I've been to.
The only sad part about the island is that you can see trash on the shore of every beach (on the main island) and in the water. We went snorkeling to some beautiful reefs and on one of them we found ourselves just swimming in between plastic bags! these are extremely harmful to the animals that live there. Fish try to eat it and suffocate, turtles get caught in it and drown... And the sad thing is that the trash comes from the sea. It comes from the big cities and just drifts in with currents to Karimun. The people on the island are actually cautious about their waste. I think it is important to educate and tell of anyone who throws rubbish out in the wild, that is not where it belongs!

Hostels: Samsara hostel- (95 000IDR) close to the pier and main streets. Nice people, but if I'd have the money I'd stay in the coconut house which was not that much more expensive but had a great vibe!

It was only me picking the rubbish, so sad how everyone was swimming around it and didn’t care to do anything. When I started picking it the guide also joined me a little.. i recommend you to come visit Pahawang island in the southeast sumatra island i guess. to be exact in Lampung province. i never be there. but a lot of people said there is a good place and amazing beach.

I did not plan in much detail at all. I did do a rough plan on where I'd like to go and when that would be about and then I do have my big flights (the ones in between the countries) booked because I want to keep down the cost and I can only stay 1 month in each country anyway. The hostels I usually book one day in advance or sometimes just arrive at the destination and ask for room :)

Ross don’t be sorry about the rubbish, if you go there try and spread awareness instead! Also try to pick up rubbish when you see it. Rubbish is everywhere in this world unfortunately and only we/humans can make something about it. Karimunjawa is beautiful!!

Laeica wezlar Hi! Thank you for liking it :) unfortunately I cannot certainly tell you what pier it was. It was on that same island we had our lunch (the fish in the video) during the snorkeling/island hopping trip with the boat if that helps.

Unfortunately I don’t have a guide for that. I went with a bunch of locals that I met and they were kind enough to show me these amazing places. So what I put in under the video description is all I know. Other than that it’s good to rent a bike and try to find some spots yourself. Back when I was there, there was no tourism and barely any road so you just tried to find a place on your own or took a boat out to some close by islands ☺️ don’t know how it’s there now tho, things might have changed a bit.

genevieve eileen yes there was, that’s the one we went to in the video I think. I’m not sure if we were there out of season but back then it was quite abandoned. The locals talked about it a lot tho, so I’d guess it’s a thing :)

Heyo, thanks I'm glad you liked it :) The camera I use for action shots (like under water and scooter and so on is a GoPro Hero 3+ and for my pictures and vlogs I have my little Canon 120s (great size and still has a bit on the manual setting to play around with if you are into photography, not too much but for the size it is good!).

To your question, a lot of people actually asked me that. But I don't do anything special, I just really like to snorkel and be underwater so I swim a lot and try to go as deep as I can (17m is the record so far in my Philippines video). So unfortunately I don't have any special tips. I am very sporty tho and I've heard you should be very calm and go down to a meditative state so you can hold your breath longer. So I'd say if you are fit and if you push yourself enough (not too much tho so it's not dangerous) you should be able to get better and better with time. Try to be calm as well. Good luck! xx

I think if you want to go backpacking there is no age limit (well maybe under 18 is a bit hard with economy and booking hostels and so on). But if you have the chance to go backpacking and want to do it then I think you should. I went straight after finishing high school if that answers your question and I actually ended up backpacking for 9,5 months. I visited 13 countries, but there will be coming more videos of my travel if you'd like to see and I also plan on doing a video of how i traveled and how i could afford it, hopefully soooon. It's sad with the rubbish, but It does not only come from Indonesia.. the rubbish was not from the islands it came from the sea which means it comes from the big cities around and other countries. The tide just brought it to that spot particular and in to the shore, the people at the island were actually coutious about the nature there. I think we should all be careful with where we put our trash.

Hey, the name of the island is "Cemara Kecil Island". It is very small and about 30min boat outside of main Karimun jawas coast i'd say :)

Nik Miller when I was there, there were no cars on the island and I didn’t see any bicycle rentals either. There were not many tourist things. Just some scooters. Things might have changed tho 😊

If you take the boat from Jepara, which is on Jawa, it takes about 6h (slow boat/cheap), I’m not sure but I think the fast boat takes 4h.

Gianluca Folcarelli it depends on how many days you have, I would’ve stayed longer than 3 days :) there are many islands around to visit and it’s a nice place to just relax aswell

Flores is beautiful from what I’ve heard! I myself unfortunately didn’t make it there.. since you have many places to go and only 24 days I would say 3 days on Karimunjawa would be good :) don’t stress too much, sometimes it’s better to go to less places but see them good. Explore them and take them in for real, then go to many different locations and stress to see “all” the sights.
