- In this Java Documentary I take you on a road trip across the biggest island of Indonesia with my friends Kiko & Carlotta.
➸ My Indo Travel Planning Kit: www.back-packer.org/IndoKit
Java is famous for its many natural sights such as volcanos and waterfalls but it is also the most populous island of the country and with that the historic and cultural center of Indonesia. This Java documentary aims to show the diversity of this island covering the historic and religious background, explaining the cultural roots as well as the culinary variety one can find here besides the natural and man made sights.

This Java Travel Documentary is the first part of a Documentary Series called „Indonesia is not only Bali“. While many visitors mainly focus on Bali alone, Indonesia with its more than 17,000 islands offers a wealth of incredible destinations each with its unique charm and attractions.
Therefore my plan was to visit a number of different destinations to showcase the diversity of the country to the best of my ability. I’ll be starting my trip off with the largest island, called Java where I’ll be exploring the cities of Jakarta and Yogyakarta to understand the historical and religious background before meeting my friends from Portugal and heading into the nature to see volcanoes, waterfalls and some of the largest jungle temples in the world.
In order to show you the whole diversity of Indonesia we tried to cover the majority of sights in this Java Documentary from the west over the center to the east as well as the volcanos and waterfalls in the center of Java.
You can use this Java Documentary to plan your own trip to Java, on my website you’ll find all essential information needed.
Following I list all places & things to do in Java, Indonesia as seen in this Indonesia Documentary:
- Jakarta
- Yogyakarta
- Borobudur
- Prambanan
- Mt. Merapi
- Cemoro Lawang
- Mt. Bromo
- Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park
- Tumpak Sewu
- Banyuwangi
- Ijen Volcano
- Goa Tetes
- Old Batavia
- Monas
- King Kong Hill

It's been a hot minute but I'm super excited to share this adventure with you. A lot of you have asked why there was so little content in the past few months, the answer is simply that I wasn't really able to go on longer adventures like that for a while due to the effect of the pandemic. Adding to that is the fact that I shifted my focus to creating in-depth long format documentaries which take a lot of time and effort to produce. For instance: this video was filmed in Indonesia over the course of 3 weeks, while the production & editing incl. sound design, motion design and color grading took about 6 weeks. After traveling for altogether 6 months in Asia & South America I currently have quite the backlog of content I'm working on right now. So please be patient as I'm publishing new content bit by bit, it just takes a bit longer to produce but in the end I want to provide educational yet entertaining travel documentaries that represent a destination and the travel experience as best as possible. Thanks for following along and all your motivating & uplifting messages and comments.
Thanks for this Fantastic Video, U deserve more views and recognition
Keep up the good work!!
I agree with you sometimes we didn't realise that the place we are visit it's not just as a tourist destination but it's a history to your life journey to learn more about the creatures, human being in every country and about they're lifestyle, daily life and many more things about the wonder of God created the earth that we are live together. Every country are unique and they have their own history in the place that every human being stay and live together with their families and grow up as a community to become a big family and turn to become a village transform to become a small town and grow up as become a one City and one country. it's as well the same as the archipelago of Nusantara that we called now as a One nation of Indonesia as today we are become the United states of Republic of Indonesia ( NKRI means in bahasa Indonesia Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia ) . Especially in Indonesia like village name or town name in every province of Indonesia, actually given name of the village or town or other places around Indonesia, each village or Town has a meaning and history behind it name. so it's good for you when visit Indonesia I recommend you to meet the leader of the place that you have visit to find out more about their background of the village or Town and the local people because some of them actually are migrated from other province in Indonesia to relocate to other place that far from their own hometown or their birth place to find a new place with some of their friend or family to live in other places around Indonesia.
most of the tourists they just want to go for fun or enjoy their time visit the new place without learn more about the place that their visit. they just come for relax and enjoy themselves and just for explore it without learn something about the history that hidden for decades of the year. or learn about the past before become a nation' or country just like Indonesia in the past it's know as an Archipelago of Nusantara ( it's about the Kingdom that rules the island. in the past before Indonesia Independence was rules by the Kingdom of Majapahit, Sriwijaya and others Kingdom as you can see the diversity of traditional costumes that every province represents of their province with their own tradition custom complete from head to feet dressed with it's own ornaments ( it's has meaning on its ornaments that girl and boys or man and woman wearing I every event that Indonesia have celebrate like ceremony of Indonesia Independence Day it will celebrate it every year in the palace of President in Jakarta on 17 Agustus you will see different traditional customs that their wearing to represent their own province.
It's also a good idea to make a vlog in a long-form documentary format, but keep in mind that many viewers also have limited free time. I suggest what if you make it in 2 versions, the full / complete version and the short version which is a segmentation of the full version of the video content.?
@@sendukrietje5076 Thanks so much for this insight, I totally agree with you and encourage travelers to use travel as a chance to learn. Even if its just a little bit, it helps to understand and grow together!
@@MYWRoso The video style I have now is based on my analyzes of over 200 videos I've been doing on this channel for more than 10 years. In regards to this the majority of my audience wants to have long format documentaries rather than short versions. But: what I'll be doing is adding a few shorter videos for each island where I highlights the top destinations to visit. :)
This is not a vlog... this is a documentary. Your video deserves millions of view!
yes this not vlog but documentary.

Yes your are definitely right .. Indonesia is not only Bali. Indonesia is my ancestral home. My roots are in the island of Java. Just like you i had travelled extensively throughout Indonesia. The island of Java itself is full of secrets and hidden gems. Many are waiting to be discovered even by the locals. one year is not enough to explore Indonesia... Thank's for visiting my country. 😃
Thank you very much for sharing a history of Indonesia. I love and like it your documentary and your explanation of every place that you have been visit in Indonesia.
I come from tondano is a small city that part of Minahasa land located in North Sulawesi province.
Manado is the capital City of North Sulawesi province. ♥️🇮🇩👍🙏♥️
Thank you very much! Sulawesi is definitely another exciting destination I need to visit on my next trip to your country :)
@@BackPackerSteve Yesss...I myself as a citizen of Indonesia but I never been to Bali, Lombok, sumatera, kalimantan, Papua as well Sulawesi province I only know a little bit of my hometown in small village called Desa Lalumpe located in tondano minahasa land of North Sulawesi. others part of Sulawesi like Toraja, Palu, Poso wakatobi, gorontalo, Sangihe talaud as well south Sulawesi east west Sulawesi province I never visit.
even in around of Manado city I have know nothing about others City, town, village surrounded the North Sulawesi province I never been visit .
some part of java Island I have been there mostly in west Java like Bogor, bekasi, Depok, tangerang city I have visit but not all of the place.
I live in Bogor when I was in my high school I study in Bogor on 1991 to 1993 then I move to Jakarta is the capital City of Indonesia. I most familiar place to visit and well know about Jakarta city and others city in west Java province.
Some part of Indonesia especially in the east of Indonesia majority populations are Christian like in Manado, tomohon, tondano minahasa are majority populations are Christian. like Maluku, Papua, NTT, Toraja , Batak in North sumatera are Christian majority.
in the west of Indonesia the populations are majority Muslims. so there are many different City in one province also there are many towns in one City in every province around Indonesia. not only that there are many differences language, traditional music, instruments, songs, houses costumes, culture, food and many more things.
west of Indonesia
@@sendukrietje5076 True story, there are so many different cultures within one island which is so fascinating. I feel like one needs years just to explore the different parts of Indonesia!
@@BackPackerSteve yes that's true because the archipelago of Nusantara called Indonesia. have 38 provinces from west in sabang ( sumatera province to East in Papua province of Indonesia ) .
every province you will find different City around every province and every province it has their own capital City that rules by the government of province that we called Gubernur in bahasa. Governor is the head of every province in Indonesia. above of govenor is our president is the head of our country called Indonesia that will lead all the governments all over 38 province in Indonesia. and every city will divide into different Town that will rules by Bupati and in every town will devided into different villages that ruler by Camat and every village its has their own leader called Hukum Tua in Manado province or Lurah in other province that they called for their head of the village etc.
bahasa Indonesia is the national language that all citizens of Indonesia will understand to speak to our brotherhood in Indonesia.
I myself as minahasa tiba will not understand java or sumatera, or kalimantan and others traditional language. so to understand each other and connect to them we use bahasa Indonesia to communicate with each other. even music, songs, cultural, costume and food are different taste and different style all over the island in every province. there are many more things differently and diversity that you will find in every place that you will visit in the wonderful and Wonderland of Indonesia.

What a professional way to share your trip. Beautiful footage taken on the ground and from the drone. Bravo
Beautiful, wonderful video. I've been most places you went but your photography/videography was amazing. And I agree with another comment - this is as good as any documentary on the same topic. You selected a few places and did these very well. Did you note the sign saying no one over 60 at the Tumpak Sewu waterfall path going down? You have shown me why there is such an age limit. Of course, everywhere you went, there was far more you could have seen than you did - but that is the nature of the task you have set yourself. I also love some of the way you say some words - Banyuwangi, for instance. It should be said like this - Bun - you - wung - ee. Last year we made a trip into the caldera that is part of the Ijen area - not the Ijen volcano. It's a little like the Bromo area except you have a village or two at the bottom of the caldera. It is an area far less travelled - and rarely by tourists (and we are not tourists).
I am so proud on you...tell all about Indonesia...good luck...God bless you...
Awesome video!!!
Great visual, great presentation, great story line.
