    Hi Ann, sorry to hear about your thumb injury. I like the full circle format of this video. I didn't realize that you used castings immediately after harvest. I guess I've done that a couple times too. We need puppy cameos!

    Nice little addition to the typical worm farming content with the garden tour 👍🏻 Seeing grandpa pepper is inspirational. I'm happy to see that 4 of my overwintered pepper plats are doing good out in the garden this year. I might just have to see if I can do it again & get a 3rd season out fo them.... :)

      What I like about overwintering is that the peppers are exactly what they are supposed to be. Also earlier than seed grown. 🪱😃👍🏼🌶️

      Haha! On the topic of peppers being _"exactly what they are supposed to be"_ , I had a packet of seeds that I put away last year & labeled them as a particular type of pepper - but once the peppers began growing it turned out that they were all green bell peppers. I don't have anything against green bells, but I expected the majority of my peppers to be something entirely different. Oops!! :)

    Loved seeing your Bonsai's! Looking at your sweet potatoes reminded me that I needed to water mine. After being introduced to "Grandpa" Pepper, I guess I'll try over wintering one also.
    Have been doing a new feeding mix with da worms. After your method of pre-soaking some of your bedding, I've been mixing that with the ground, pre-frozen chow, letting set for 24 hrs, and using as food. Wormies eating it all and ready for more in 2 weeks.

      I'm so glad it is working. The overwintering is going so well for me I drag a virtual forest of peppers inside every winter. 👍🏼😃🌶️🪱

    Nice harvest and great seeing what you do with the castings, Ann. Grandpa pepper is looking good. Worm tea and fish/ seaweed emulsion is a great combo. My jalapeño pepper plant lasted about 3-4 years. I tried what I heard a bunch of people say and trimmed and washing the roots (it didn’t like that). Haven’t tried it again.

    • @PlantObsessed
      @PlantObsessed  Před měsícem +3

      I just take him to the basement. No crazy root wash and repot. I just trim and water with dish soap water. I guess I could use BTI too. My indoors is not a sterile environment. 🪱👍🏼😃

    Peppers really are tough. My bhut jolokia (ghost) in a 0.66 gal pot is so full & lush, yet compact (8-10" tall at most), & loads of very nice pods even after 4 yrs. ❤ I trimmed its roots & repotted with fresh worm castings in April. Feed it with rice water every week or so. Happy pepper!
    Cheers! 🎉

    • @thomasbazin1529
      @thomasbazin1529 Před 29 dny +1

      @@PlantObsessed it helps as a low-tech fertiliser. Basically it's just the milky-looking water you get after washing rice (before cooking it). You dilute it & let it sit over ight, then use it. Since I'm only growing a few plants on the balcony for fun, that's enough. 😅 However I'm glad to see the repotting with wormpoop + rice water combo improves production. 😁😁

    Question Ann! When you bring grandpa pepper in for the winter, do you trim it way back?
    I have made a couple lame attempts of overwintering pepper plants, did not even try last year. This year I have some in grow bags, would be easy to bring them inside.
    All I use on my plants during the growing season are worm castings, either as a top dressing, extract or an aerated tea. No longer use any organic fertilizers either, I am using up the last of the fish hydrolysate for fungal dominant aerated leaf mold tea.
    Nice feeding, lots of food fo a lot of worms.
    The BTi is a no brainer for keeping any fly at bay, I thawed out about 2 gallons of food for the worms and the fruit flies found it before it made in in the worm bins, I just incorporated the BTi granules into the bins, a few weeks later still no flies.
    Your plants look awesome! Stay Well!!!!

    It's an old story with me, but that's a 'cave in' or out problem, on the Vermi bag system. I saw that, don't take too much out of bottom at a time!. vertical migration system. I admire your content, especially the 'proof in the pudding' or actual application stuff! Take care!

  • @davidhumphrey171
    @davidhumphrey171 Před měsícem

    Do the castings drying out to that point lose any of their effectiveness ? Most info I have seen say to keep them as moist as when you sift them. Or is that another myth ?

    • @PlantObsessed
      @PlantObsessed  Před měsícem +1

      Yes I keep mine hydrated or the microbes can die or go dormant. 😃👍🏼🪱

    • @davidhumphrey171
      @davidhumphrey171 Před 29 dny

      @@PlantObsessed The castings that you put on the surface of your plants outdoors will obviously dry out due to sun and wind, so will the microbes die off and become useless then ?
