Yes, 4Kids completely butchered the YGO dub, but you have to admit that the English VAs managed to make even the cheesiest of lines sound epic as hell. Dan Green, Eric Stuart, Wayne Grayson, Ted Lewis, etc. etc. Even if you're not a fan of their dubs, 4Kids always had an incredibly talented cast of VAs for their shows.
plus they were in the lastest movie which they wouldnt have been in if they were fucking epic at it, eric stuart made that movie his own by *improving* kaibas lines

I can see why someone would dislike Eric Vale's performance of Trunks. Not that the acting itself is bad (at least not in my opinion), but the type of voice he chose to use was odd. I've gotten used to it now though, and honestly, it would be weird hearing him with any other voice.
I'm gonna have to disagree about Speed Racer. Sure, the dub isn't that good, but its far from being the worst dubbed anime. Compared to the Big Green DBZ dub, Speed Racer is comedy gold. Ironically, the fast-paced, non-stop dialogue of the dub gave Speed Racer a new identity, a new tone. It made Speed Racer memorable. It made Speed Racer iconic.
Like I said in another comment; it's hard to really hate the dub when you read about all the work that was dumped on Peter Fernandez that included only scripting and recording in 2 days...

100% agreed. At the very least, Speed Racer should have been #8 or #9 on this list.
Aw come on. Speed Racer may have been a bad dubbing, but that was kinda what made the show so memorable if you ask me. Plus it was one of the first anime to become popular in the US, so it essentially paved the way for the future global success of DBZ, Pokemon, Digimon, Gundam, Voltron, Robotech, etc.
Did you know they used to air it on the NASCAR channel a while back? I know, cuz I watched it almost every school night at a neighbor's house before my parents picked me up.

I used to see Speed Racer advertising for Geico
4kids has made so many bad dubs, and ran Saturday mornings into the ground.
But I loved Yu Gi Oh! and Sonic X. That's my childhood. The only voices I couldn't stand in Sonic though were Chris Thorndike and Cream.

Hey the American Opening song of One Piece was incredible though. Even if it was just them saying everything that appeared in the Opening animation and detailing the entire beginning plot. "One piece that's the name of treasure in the Grand Line." Amazing.

I don’t know, I like the name changes for the lead couple, Serena and Darian fit them perfectly, but the voice for the main character sounded too goofy and grown uppish. Luna’s made her sound like an old lady.

For the one piece segment, you could've at least made it more obvious you were referring to the 4 kids dub, funimation did a second dub for the episodes when they got the rights and that one tried to cover the mistakes of the 4kids version, please don't make people confused that all of one piece budded is bad, just the 4 kids version

Well if you don't understand Japanese they might as well.
To everyone who hated yu gi oh's dub you all know you watched that as kids on Saturday moments and thought that it was good. And not to mention that the original dubbed series lasted for four years which is pretty impressive. Personally I love the dubbed version of yu gi oh and thought the shadow realm and heart of the cards was quite a nice edit. Plus the voice actors did a nice job.

I was surprised to see Yugioh on this list; but then, back when I was actually _watching_ that show, I didn't have the ability to watch anything except what was on TV (which was all English dub) so I was willing to take whatever I could get without question. ...Though, dubs or subs, I like 5ds better than the original just because I hate Yugi's design (why is he so short? what's with the gravity-defying hair?! HOW DOES EVERYBODY _NOT_ NOTICE THAT THERE ARE TWO YUGIS WHEN THEY'RE SO DIFFERENT?!?!). Bakura made way more sense.

Ayden McCracken monster is the weakest on the list and probably the one I watched furthest in the past, and I had a hard time thinking of a 10th

Dic also badly butchered and eddited down the first two seasons of Sailor Moon. Especially the finale with Queen Beryl.
Sailor Moon S and Super S weren't as bad. A different company dubbed those.

What's wrong with English voice acting in Sailor Moon? It's even better than the German dub of Sailor Moon, and German dub industry counts as one of the best, if not *the best*.
And how is the English voice acting in Yu-Gi-Oh bad? That's all fine. And Speed Racer is OK, too! You Americans have a mistaste in voice acting and no idea.

Very late reply, but the Sailor Moon dub is more famous for how much it was censored. But a lot of the voice acting in it is laughable as well.

Omni Production’s English dub of Transformers Headmasters was an official dub. It’s terrible!
There was also "Masterforce" & "Victory" which were dubbed before "Headmasters." There's also the "Unicron Trilogy (Armada, Energon, & Cybertron)."
Although "Beast Wars II's" English dub is fandub, it needs a real, faithful dub. Heck all 9 "Japanese Transformers Shows" as well as films & OVA's need faithful dubs.
The funimation of One Piece is really really good but 4kids version was the most terrible thing that can happen in anime

I like the voices more in the original Sailor Moon dub, but the acting in Sailor Moon Crystal is so much better. I'm so conflicted.

Aw, I loved Cardcaptors when I was a kid, but I admit if felt like it was missing establishing episodes in the beginning. Turns out there was a reason.

Is no one going to address the fact that One Piece hasn't been dubbed by 4Kids since at least 2010? They went bankrupt from a law suit... Funimation has had that property for years now and has redubbed it unedited in it's entirety. I would think a small mention at the end of your One Piece clip regarding this fact would have been appropriate since its new dub is very well put together.

They should have made 4Kids studios an honorable mention
They made bad dubs because they're a Saturday Morning Cartoon station, which meant they had to shorten episodes so that it would fit the amount of time they had each morning and they also had to censor a lot of things before they could be allowed to air it. The best dub they've made is Kirby, but even that one really pales by comparison to it's original Japanese version.

lmao. in terms of changing content yes, in terms of voice actors no. and before you start. most of them have contracts with other dubbing agencies like viz and funi. so you cant defend 1 company and not another employing the same actors

They forgot to drive home the fact that it's ONLY the 4Kids dub version of One Piece that sucks! They made it sound like the Funimation dub sucked too but it DOESN'T! The Funimation Dub is AWESOME! In fact, pretty much anything that's dubbed by Funimation is great voice acting. Funimation settles for nothing but the best when it comes to acting.
Edit: Except for Negima apparently....
Also, the main characters of Yu-Gi-Oh! are easily the standout voice acting performances and (contrary to WatchMojo) those are actually REALLY dang good especially Joey & Kaiba.

Why were there so many low quality voice clips in the shows I used to watch xD
In all honesty, a select few of these "bad" dubs were among my earliest introductions to anime as a kid (like Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura). And while I never actually watched Yu-Gi-Oh, I still remember how big it was back in the day.
Of course, I also watched Speed Racer (which I already knew would make the #1 spot). They used to air it on the NASCAR channel, and I would often watch it at a neighbor's house on school nights.
In other words, I kinda have sort of a nostalgic soft spot for some of these "bad" dubs. I'm confident I'm not alone.
I might get shit for this, but Corey in the House. Steven Blum is a great voice actor, but choosing him to voice Corey was just not a good fit at all.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! sub is excellent, however I find the dub respectable.
"Serena"'s surname was Tsukino in the English dub. I remember one episode of the CWI dub has her introduce herself to someone as "Serena Tsukino". I think you're confusing the anime and the Mixx translation of the manga (where her first name was Bunny) as well as the original US dub of the anime and the many international dubs (French, where she's called Bunny Rivière, Italian where she's called Bunny Sukino)

I find it funny they didn't mention it when they talked about the voice acting. Since I recognized two voices from DBZ was in YYH. Android 17/Hiei & Older version of Dende/Yusuke.

+FriendlyHougen I was going to say "higurashi is easily one of the worst, wtf?" but i can't agree about Elfen lied, the way that it was recorded makes sense for the characters, because they all have some sort of tragic back story, so it makes sense for them to seem a little detached from their emotions.
I don't agree with Watchmojo about Fushigi Yuugi, either, because although i agree it's not one of the absolute best dubs i've ever watched, it's really not even bad enough to be an honorable mention on this list.

... Though the original DiC dub of Sailor Moon did get better, a LOT better down the track. No excuse for sailor Pluto though, I can't defend that.

I actually liked Card Captor Sakura, Sailor Moon, and Yu-gi-oh Dub or Sub. Negima was alright but I just liked those the most.
Thank god Funimation bought the dubbing rights for One Piece from 4kids, otherwise the crappy dub work would've been what we were stuck with. It wasn't just the dub that 4kids was infamous for, it was also notorious for its heavy editing.
Well, it's all in the name of the studio really (hence the editing). Still no excuse for the terrible voices though.

And I'm glad they were only talking about the 4kids dub because I thought they were going to be like anime American podcast who hate the funimation dub too. I don't see what the problem is with the funimation version when I think it's what changed it for the better. The same applies for viz media redubbing sailor moon.

About the "Big Green" , in the hungarian dub, Piccolo is called Satan, while Mr. Satan is called Hercules. Goku, Gohan and Goten's names are always sayed out like Son Goku, Son Gohan and Son Goten, Vegeta never calls Goku Kakarot, and for some reason, Tien is always called Ten Sin Han. Help us please!!!!!
Because the originial normal names are Son goku, Son Gohan and Son Goten.
And it's Tenshinhan, not tien.
Robin art•15• I know about that, but they were translated from the english version according to my information, where they call them Goku, Gohan, Goten and Tien. It's kind of annoying that they say the full names all the time, especially after watching the english dub.

Like...I'm legit having trouble coming to terms with the fact you didn't actual research the dub before you threw it into a list along side professionally produced shows.
Seriously?! So many things wrong with this Top 10.
1. Using the Japanese version of One Piece using the 4Kids dub and hardly acknowledging that was the dub you were referring to, some people may have thought you were talking about the superior FUNimation version, as that at least was uncut.
2. Beast Wars II's dub was NOT an OFFICIAL dub! It was an unofficial fan made dub, so you can forgive it for not being too professional. The rest of the dubs in this countdown were professional dubs.
3. Cardcaptor Sakura was called 'Cardcaptors' by Nelvana. They did more or less dub as many episodes as they could, though changed many things to best suit a western audience of kids, due to mature subject matter like gay relationships. Geneon did release a few of these episodes, BUT they released the Japanese version (with NO uncut dub) in it's entirety. The only alternate dub which is uncut is a Hong Kong produced dub which is found on the recent DVD's and Blu-rays put out by NIS. BTW Nelvana owns the dub, not Geneon.
4. Sailor Moon's English rights is currently owned by Viz Media, but it's unclear who owns the original dub(s), which were edited much like Cardcaptors was to best suit young children. By the way, DIC is pronounced Deek. It does not contain initial dots separating each letter.
5. Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0 is the ONLY anime property owned by Toei Animation/Toei Company. Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (Of which footage was used in this Top 10) and all other series after that is owned by TV Tokyo, NAS and animated by Studio Gallop.
6. Not ALL the Big Green footage came from Bojack Unbound, some came from Tree of Might and Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan.

The most epic of terrible dubs is Ghost Stories. The dub is literally a different story that the original Japanese.
Basically, the studio that dubbed it thought the story was awful (I watched the sub, and I agree with them) and decided to rewrite the entire thing as an absolutely insane and offensive supernatural comedy. Everything bad in the dub was intentionally bad, and I love them for it.

Thank God Funimation and Viz Media was able to give One Piece and Sailor Moon the proper dubs they deserved.
Its kind of hard to put the blame on Speed Racer as an example of bad Anime dubbing in the 60s. Just look at the classic American made 1960s Spider-Man cartoon. That is filled with the same kind of bad dubbing. Its just the sudden pause style animation if the actors movements in Speed that over exaggerates how bad the dub is.
I had no idea Card Captors was edited so heavily, I used to love it but then had no idea wtf was going on, she randomly gets a guy friend whose a card captor as well without explanation.
They tried to make Syaoran the main character in order to make it a "non-girly" show (and by also making Sakura a "tomboy"). Of course, all references to same-sex love were removed, as were indeed virtually all of the relationships.
Most fans liked the voices from the Nelvana dub (and from what I've seen they are better than those of the other dub, which is appallingly bad). If Nelvana had released a full, uncut version, with all the original names, music, etc., it could have been brilliant.
Having only watched the full series subbed, I've been spared the editing, censorship and terrible voices. 😂😅
Your Sailor Moon company listing in your video is off, it is actually DIC Entertainment that produced a bad english dub whereas Viz was the uncut version that used the original names.
