  • In this video we will look at some of things you probably didn’t know or hadn’t noticed before - from continuity errors to behind-the-scenes secrets in the Pilot and episodes in series 1 to 5.
    = In the series 2 episode “Forked Lightning” why did an onlooker say “Nice one Cyril” When Clegg has the accident on his bike?
    = Do you recognise the green/grey striped blazer Comp wears in the series 3 episode: “The Great Boarding House Bathroom Caper”?
    = What is in Compo's matchbox?
    The year 2023 marks 50 years since the pilot and first series of “Last of the Summer Wine” were broadcast. This series of videos is filmed in many of the well-known, and some less well-known, locations seen in the programme.

    Often wondered how Alvin continued to have his breakfast outside someone else's front door and no one seemed to complain!!

      I wonder if he was secretly having an affair with "her-next-door", like Compo had his secret Thursday assignations!

    I'm the lad on the motorcycle in the minibus at Scarborough scene. The road was partly closed so i had to go and look didn't I. A man was frantically gesturing me to stop so i turned round, stopped and watched them filming. My 5 seconds of fame.

    Another great video. The thing with the ramps is a safety thing. You drive up on set, then jack the other end up placing the ramps the other way so the car can't roll of the ramps.

    Right on me sandwiches ! Clegg exclaims (Boarding House Caper) when Compo dumps his wellies on the Cafe table , I always wonder if that line was actually scripted. It seems like such a natural response from Clegg.

    • @upstagedbyadog
      @upstagedbyadog  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I think that's Roy Clarke genius, giving characters lines that you believe they will say, not writing something you want them to say just to suit the plot.

    The reason i think Clegg became more affluent is that he was in his 50s when the show started, meaning he probably only had redundancy pay and out of work pay. By the early 90s, he would have been at retirement age, meaning he would have had access to pensions, meaning he had more money. My bigger question was how did howard and pearl live neither had jobs and always seemed slightly more affluent and tidier

    • @upstagedbyadog
      @upstagedbyadog  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Good thinking, George! I can't remember off-hand if we ever knew what Howard's employment was, he does not look the type to have a very affluent employment!

      @upstagedbyadog  Před 10 měsíci +1

      There are quite a few occasions where characters go the "wrong" way - and sometimes the next time you see them is in totally the opposite direction, but that's just tv magic!

    I remember in one episode the trio get a lift on a tractor with Compo sat on the cab roof, the tractor comes to a halt on the road with an open field gate behind it and as the trio get off the tractor you can see the shadows of the person on top of the cab go through the gate and behind the wall as another shadow comes the from behind the wall and then Compo appears round the back of the tractor.

      That's called a "Texas Switch", it's often used in tv and films to change from a stunt performer to actor without a cut.

    Foggys green combat jacket, the one with the faded patch pocket , cant remember which way round , it would either appear on location or studio appearances, but I always thought was a surprisingly obvious continuity error

    😅 I might be silly but I always liked to imagine that Sid had been a wrestler or boxer because for ages in the cafe was posters for wrestling matches, and after he died the posters were not on the walls anymore.
    Of course one could say Ivy decided not to advertise such things in the cafe anymore, or perhaps local wrestling matches dried up and were no longer put on in the area so no reason to advertise.
    Anyways, one interesting thing about the cafe was above the door high up on the building was the name of the proprietor, which made one assume Sid's last name was the same as the former owners. Perhaps it was his father's business? 🤷‍♂️ Anyways later on in the series the name above the door was later removed in the series.
    Jesus Christ Almighty God bless you all
    P.S.
    The window outside the cafe in the alley doesn't quite line up to the window inside the kitchen where Ivy was.

    • @upstagedbyadog
      @upstagedbyadog  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hi Chris, the bridge is at Meal Hill House - it's private land and we were given permission to film by the owner Brian Smith. The first time it appeared in "Summer Wine" was in "Extra! Extra!" in December 1996. It is quite near Jackson Bridge (White Horse pub) and many other locations.
