- While visiting my hometown in Pennsylvania, I went to one of my favorite stores and tried to see what I could actually buy for only $1. The options were very limited but the people were priceless. Also check out a mini blooper reel at the end from me trying to film the opening!

I'm becoming obsessed with this....When I was a kid, my immigrant family never heard of a dollar store (this is back in the mid-80s), and so my 2nd grad classmates tried to explain the concept to me ("everything's a dollar!") in the way that only seven-year-old dumdums can, so I ran back to my Polish, non-English speaking family and told them all that there's a store where everything's a dollar. So, we went there like the Joads only to learn that not everything was a dollar...
the only thing missing is the review of the sanitizer 😂

Many stores pretend to have some kind of self respect and forbid filming inside their stores. Not good ole Dollar Tree she's got no such thing. I will be amazed if there were more than two employees working at that store. So be nice to your DG employees...they are really overworked. But DG? Girl you are an icon. Almost as iconic as Nick.

Now THAT is a coat, Nick. In Toronto, our Dollar Store - Dollarama - changed its name to Dollarama+ so that they could raise the prices. Still, it is less expensive than going to other stores.
(Aside to other Torontonians: do you all remember when we had Biway stores? As a teen in the 80s I used to get designer Christina swimsuits for $15 which used to be $100 in the big department stores. Plus I got a designer trenchcoat with a wool zip in lining made in Romania for $20. I wore that coat for 10 years. They don't make stuff like that any more)

...all joking aside, if you lived in a small, smaller, now smallest town in the rolling hills of northern PA, you would kiss the ground on which DG (that's what we call it) is built. And before I rattle something more about this delightful episode by the 2nd best person in the world (yeah, Matteo is still #1) I must say that you are too used to the chic stores of NYC and if you had no other place to buy pasta... you'd buy the DG item and eat it with gusto! I am 80 and cannot get enough of you and Matteo on my computer. And, that magnificent coat you are wearing, is to DIE for! Your "haberdashery taste is beyond compare!" Matteo... not so much! But then I fell in love with him the first time I saw him! Italians always! (I am, that by the way!) Thank you for sharing your fabulous life with we who are doomed to die on DG sheets!

I used to work for Dollar Tree 11 years Asst Mgr Store Mgr. It was ok at first but they went public and cut so many hours and said Mr Store Mgr you are salaried and can work more hours 55-60 per week. I told them GFY. The lowest I go anymore is Walmart. Love the video.

Your first issue is that Dollar General is not a "dollar store" the way Dollar Tree is. It's just a discount store.

Dollar Tree is so much better, price-wise! It took me years to start shopping there, but now I go often! I buy a lot for the classroom and since I don't get reimbursed, it pays to shop there!
