    Finally was able to test ride a 650 Interceptor and it was a flashback to the English bikes of the 60’s. The handling was really responsive and the engine didn’t drip one drop of oil. The dealer said they have not had any real problems and the company has been responsive for warranty work. He did admit that servicing the bike is a must. I had two Norton’s a 750 Commando Interstate and an Atlas. Still hoping Norton returns to America! In the meantime the Enfield is the absolute bargain bike with reasonable power and good handling! At at US$6400.00 there is nothing even close in value. Now to convince my wife that I want and need one!

      Just buy one and hide it in the garage, I got away with that for nearly 6 months,
      (Then she found out and I had another 2 weeks of silence till her mother needed something doing, then we made up Hahaha! )

    I'd like to thank you, Mr. Fillingham. I had a conversation last night with my wife, and will be ordering my INT 650 a week from today. Watching your videos in particular reinforced my decision to get this bike, which I had chosen based on aesthetics, engine size, and price. I hope I get the enjoyment out of mine that you are across the pond! I'll have to hit the Blue Ridge Parkway or Tail of the Dragon as my first real biker outing, they are both at least partially within my state.

    Still breaking in my Interceptor.
    I was trying to decide between a Honda CB500F and the Interceptor.
    Test rode the RE. [I like the looks, sound and feel of this bike] Then and there Traded in my Rebel 250 and drove off on the Enfield. The Fwy was no longer something to endure. It was fun.
    Once I adjusted to the weight and balance, delightful. Can't wait until my break in is completed so I can go throughout Southern and Central California. That saddlebag setup looks much better than the RE setup.
    Also noted that, when necessary to stand upon the pegs, it is still easy to control and feelscl well balanced.

    Ever since I bought my Interceptor I have wondered about those upswept silencers. I put some form of luggage/luggage carrier on all my motorbikes, to me they are an obvious essential. I am surprised that I have not seen an exhaust system that uses a straight back "peashooter" silencer, it would certainly be more useful and, to my mind more in keeping with the "retro" look of the bike. For example, they look very good on the Kawasaki W800. These rails are the best solution I've seen yet to the Interceptor problem.

    @olderrol Před 2 lety

    A nice demonstration on how to fit this wonderful system. Can I be so bold, though, as to suggest a couple of things I believe are so important.
    I am passionate about the restoration of motorcycles. If the following was followed by others my job would be so much easier.
    Please, please put a small amount of lubricant, grease is fine, on threads. It makes them so much easier to remove at a later date. Zinc has a nasty habit of producing small amounts of electrolysis, especially in aluminium, which causes annoying seizures. Secondly, it is imperative to lubricate stainless steel threads. Particularly stainless on stainless. Stainless steel nuts and bolts will often bind up, acting as if welded together necessitating the need to cut or sheer them to remove them once tightened, if installed dry.
    Just my 2 bobs worth for what it’s worth. 😊

    I bought the rails and the Sidekick mounting system. I'm going to install the Sidekick clamps on my TripMachine outlaw saddlebags. I'm anticipating that the Sidekick mounts will be far more robust (and comfortable) compared to the TripMachine leather/fabric straps.

    Great and comprehensive video as always! As far as rails go, these looks pretty good, stylish yet inconspicuous. Those bags looks nice, but unfortunately they don’t make the rails for my bike (Kawasaki z650RS), not yet at least, new model and all!!

    These look ok, and the locking panniers are a great idea and good looking. Have you looked at the craven equipment pannier rails? They look closer to the bike and maybe less obvious? For a view of them if you download the installation instructions at the end they have some pictures of them fitted. I've not seen them in the flesh but just thought I'd bring them to your attention if you weren't already aware of them.

    When removing the shock bolts during this project I found that there was red locktight on each bolt. Be very careful not to strip the hex bolt as I made that mistake and was lucky enough to be able to remove it with vice grips. I hear heating the bolt slightly and carefully is a smart way to circumnavigate this very tight hold created by the goo, (be careful not to over heat as I believe there is a rubber piece on the shock hole itself , or just be very very careful when removing the bolt)

    Great instructive video as always Stu and the rails are certainly better and less intrusive than the Enfield ones. However I personally like the look of the Hepco and Becker C bow system which consists of no more than a C shaped bracket on to which a lockable bag can be attached. I just wondered if you had come across their system or had ever considered it as a better option?
    Best regards Pete

  • @fabdubardofficial

    Dear Stuart, do you think the system would fit on a 2017 Continental GT 535? Thanks

  • @dave773
    @dave773 Před 2 lety

    Stuart - I know it wouldn’t be an exact comparison because the larger Longride bags you have don’t have the locking mechanism but if you size them up to these rails, do they touch the silencers? I would imagine so which means the customized placing of the locking mechanism would need to go much lower on those bags bringing the top of the bag quite high and above the seat? Or does Longride only suggest this smaller bag for this set-up? As always, your effort and work is fantastic and much appreciated!

      They recommend the mini patriots. I mounted them with the click fix system mounted slightly under an angle so there is enough space between the bags and exhaust.Looks great. You need the separate straps when using full volume of the bags.Ride safe.

  • @Rockaliser
    @Rockaliser Před 2 lety

    A lot of the luggage I have seen regarding the interceptor and continental impede the pillion or don't really take a lot of luggage. These look nice my only slight concern is the distance to the pipe at the top and I wonder in long term use if the back will bake and become brittle in that concern. I think I am going to get a rear rack and a duffel bag to tie to it.

    Stuart, how much muffler clearance to closest part of bag would be recommended? I have only put 40kms on my new INT 650, so have no idea how hot the mufflers get. BTW, purchased a pair of these on the strength of your review - thanks, they are beautiful! Stupid question, now that I did a dry run - I can see with the minis there's no issue with clearance.
