Follow Jess, an operations wizard and John, a designer/maker as they ditch their Brooklyn, NY digs for a more spacious 60 square foot Ford Transit 350 XLT. Jess and John did the conversion in the sweltering, litter-lined streets of New York City and are on a quest for actual nature and more temperate weather. Will they make it? Stay tuned to find out!
Conceptually, the van is the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom and the outdoors serves as their living room. This concept prioritized a functional kitchen and bath, while providing plenty of seating for dining and working indoors when the weather is disagreeable. The other driver for the van design was the urge to move away from a bed and garage hogging the entire back half of the interior. Why have a bed taking up half your space all day when you only sleep for 8 hours? The solution to this was to create a queen size murphy bed that hides during the day, thus creating twice as much functional space during the day.We're changing to a lower gear, squeezing into a custom built van, and exploring the country! Wow. Thank you so much. John approached the project from his architectural designer perspective. It was very important to us that we were creating a machine for living that was going to be functional and comfortable. As noted in the video, we went through so many iterations to flush out the elements that didn't feel well resolved. We have been full-time for 9 months and truly love our home. Not because it looks sexy in an instagram shot (there are sexier), but because it is truly functional and a comfortable place to call home. I love the Murphy Bed and the way you put your fridge up high! It would be so much easier to get to everything. Having the composting toilet in the back would make it easier to pull out for cleaning and you can use the shower outdoors too! Very well thought out plan!!

That wasn't what we wanted to share though because there are a lot of those already. We are more interested in inspiring viewers to consider their own lifestyles, comfort, and habits and not mimic what's already out there. If we help one viewer think outside the very small box, then we'll consider the video a smashing success! love the layout, im just starting to plan a 144 (MWB) sprinter build and i had come up with the same type of layout, but had been searching to see if anyone else had done this already (so glad i found yours) I will only be traveling with my Husky and not full time living (for now) so the murpy bed design gives that multi functional space so i can work and rest while keeping space for the dog. I think the rear shower gives you the choice of a larger garage and the feeling of space when you want to open it up. Thanks for sharing

The Murphy bed is a must. Great video and storage ideas. I would want an ergonomically correct and comfortable back cushions for this 69 yr. old.

so much lay out design and materials... I love this one as well!..love for the fact you guys have the kitchen in the back.. oh bathroom too, which most have like the luxury the bed in the back... but also in favor of the lift bed... hmmm... this would be great for a lift bed :)

Lift beds are cool and we would consider using one if we lived in the van part-time, but since we've lived in the van for nearly 3.5 years, we know that we would really miss all of our overhead storage that the lift bed would require. So good to see the concept of double utilisation of space being applied, e.g. re the bed (where so many vans lock up the space which is essentially used while unconscious).
Having the shower space open unless in use, and at the back for ventilation, is brilliant.

Looks cool but messing with that bed twice a day will get old quick.
Hasn't bothered us once in 10 months full-time. We love our big, functional living room and our queen size bed. If we do a v2, we'd keep the bed exactly as is. Thanks for watching!

AWESOME! THAT SINK! I have been LOOKING for an example to use while I plan my build! I have LITERALLY been searching for a faucet that goes down like that because I feel it is SUCH a waste of space to have the faucet out all the time! YES! This was recommended to me by CZcams! CZcams found YOU for ME! YES! You have NO IDEA! I feel like crying because I've been searching so hard for THAT particular type of sink and NO ONE has it! The ONLY thing I would change about this video is the DRINK & SMOKE shirt (LOL)! I'm straight laced! Other than that, this is AWESOME!

I've seen literally hundreds of van conversion in the past 9 years, and your van is on my top 4 list for my conversion in the future. It's perfect for two people, modern, clean, and not claustrophobic. Loved it.

I’ve watched maybe 50-70 ban builds and this is my favorite layout! The Murphy bed and bathroom in the back are why I like it so much :) great job!

How amazing is this van\home?! Who would have thought the bed would be where it is? Fantastic job you guys absolutely fantastic. Everything you could possibly need to live, work, travel and enjoy in such an incredible space! WOW! WOW! WOW! You have a mobile apartment only thing missing is a washing machine but I am guessing coming from NYC and an apartment a washing machine is something your used to not have having anyway so it's no loss for you? Again guys fantastic job and absolutely lovely. All this in a ford transit van 🤔🙄🤔🙄.Even a shower\toilet in this van.
You guys have EVERYTHING you need from a home!!!! Also the freedom to travel. You can just move around freely and go wherever and whenever you want without the expense of removel guys! I just can't get over how much you have and more importantly how you got all that into a ford transit van!!!!!! You have thought about everything from power (the solar bank and batteries), the reception for your phones (the cell booster) and a WiFi booster the roof holds slot of your needs for traveling who would have thought just by looking at your van that you have an amazing space inside and what a technical space you have got on the outside!!!!
I am truly amazed and I gotta say I loved watching this video so thanks for sharing and I going to be watching all your videos as I have noticed there are a couple more!

I agree with all the other comments. This is a lovely van. Such an innovative layout and everything seems so well thought out. I think this is the first time I've seen bikes stores upright in a van, makes it easy to get to the electrics and you're not having to bend under something to access. If I ever learn to drive, I will be stealing this design for my van! It really feels like a home, not just a nicely kitted out box on wheels.
