Finding Space in the No-Dig Garden

- In todays episode, I bring out the brassicas from the polytunnel to harden off outside. Ready to be planted at the grapevine garden..in the no dig raised beds.
I setup my trestle table and cover with enviro-mesh to protect the plants from butterflies and pigeons while they are climatising outside.
I also pot up some wine red petunias in buckets. They will eventually cascade down the whiskey barrel water feature, bringing a floral display to the barrels.
I also plant out red and green little gem lettuce, plus some chicory into the no dig beds on the fig & olive plot.
Some of the runnerbean plants were planted out around a hazelnut teepee. The nature pond is teaming with life now. The tadpoles are starting to grow. They'll soon grow legs and lose their tail.. before leaving the pond as a baby frog.
I also create a new shelving unit in the polytunnel.
I visited linda at @feelgoodgardens where we celebrated my 6000 subscribers with cake and bubbly. Linda loves a celebration!
I also discuss starting a new youtube channel about my kayaking adventures.
Linda visited to collect some nasturtium plants. We all swap and share plants. It's a great community.
I planted up an old bathroom tank, gifted from @GemInTheGarden with pongo dwarf beans.

Hubby is a kayaker and cyclist but not a gardener I hardly see him yesterday on a very calm River Derwent they had a large pod of dolphin frolicking around them. They did stop and he filmed what a wonderful sight. So I will watch Danny. Did you see the lights we were blessed for the first time seeing an amazing display over several hours last night from our deck from 9pm on hard to go to bed and stop taking pictures. Hope you did my niece had amazing sight in Conwy.

Lovely video; seems like you had a super productive day! I appreciated how you mentioned planning your garden around which spots get full sun and which get some shade. That was definitely a mistake I made when I started gardening-but you learn! I’m going to be messing around with that again this year, so maybe I didn’t actually learn. We’ll see! I’m sure you’ve got lots of great suggestions for new channel names and I don’t have any to contribute, but I know that many of us look forward to the adventures you share there too. Will be interesting to see the new channel when you get out kayaking. Funny story, I once sat under scrim on a river bank for 8 hours to capture footage of kingfishers. Didn’t see a single one. I clearly had more patience when photography was my hobby 😂🙈

It seems many plants want afternoon shade. You’re lucky to have that! I’m constantly looking for those exact conditions because our summers are hot. They said 70s F for Sunday and now it’s 80s-bit hot 🥵
I tried to get more plants out of the GH late evening after an already full day. Then a storm blew in and it quickly became windy and dark clouds. In my haste to get inside in case of lightening I moved our electric garden car close to the house and ran over the tiny maple tree I propagated and just planted a few days ago 🙄. G. Scott says he kills plants so others survive, but I don’t think this is what he meant 😏. Then the clouds cleared and at 1:30 am I looked for northern lights-Nothing. Husband got up at 3 pm and seen them and didn’t wake me-sigh. Maybe tonight or early Sunday morning as it’s the height of the solar flare.
So I made my first successful Rhubarb upside down cake today as it was too windy and sunny to plant and thought to do it later. Right now I don’t feel like it. I have tomatoes to get out to GH and need the room. The canopies of tomatoes in One Days time was amazing. I didn’t tend to them yesterday and in one day they leaped 😮. They need more light and to cool down outside. It is the one veg I think I timed right to go from cell pack to garden. Some of those heirlooms look so weak naturally, but these guys have been babied too long and have to toughen up.
My husband keeps asking where are they all going to go? I didn’t think much about it until I seen what he was looking at-the winter sow jugs were teaming with plants! 😅. We have room but they all need to go inside fenced areas or the wildlife will have lunch.
Oh to be able to just plant freely is a dream. The rabbits and deer just like my plants way better than local stuff.
Oh I agree. I dont think plants want intense heat. They like a rest in the shade on times. I'm like you too! Forever trying to find spaces for more plants haha

I would definitely move the apple tree as I had one just like yours and soon shaded the raised bed and restricted growing options like putting the cold frame and Brassica frame on the beds.

The new channel sounds fab to me. I love Wales, we had a breif visit to Abergavenny today, stunning place. Would love to see more and add plaaces to our list to visit. If you ever come to Devon with the kayak, the River Exe is simply gorgeous, paddle boarding at Roadford lake is nice too but you can really bake out on the water on a sunny day there.

I know what you mean about having sturdy shelves. I have to consider weight all the time on my zipper green house shelves or they can topple.
LOL I try to clear all the nasty seeds away, but still I miss some. Now I have trouble getting rid of them...like you said they make an excellent trap crop.

When ever i hear someone talk about kayak's i think of that joke.
Two fellas in a kayak light a fire, it burns the kayak and sinks. Moral of the story is that you can't have you kayak and heat it.

I always make plans but nature decides to turn things upside down with voles, Moles, Foxes, and Jackdaws having a right laugh at my expense 😂🫣😭.

@@TheGrowUpChannel I bought a cheap weed fabric on one of my beds and mostly Rhubarbs and herbs but the cheeky buggers decided to start ripping chunks off for their nests😭🫣🙈
