Okay, this is anatomically effective in a context where your partner collaborates with your exhibition.
But, this work in a full speed sparring? I honestly and respectfully ask.
Thank you so much for your work.

Your sincere question is appreciated! Let me answer on a few levels:
      1. It goes without saying that any demonstration, by the nature of being a demonstration, is almost always "cleaner" than it appears in combative application. So, in so far it is a demonstration and the partner is cooperating with the demonstration of the technique for practice, it is definitely going to be cleaner. No question.
      2. The context we work primarily at our dojo is not a sparring context. While we do spar in various forms (most notably randori and kumite), the primary focus is on self-defense. As such, this kick defense (and there is certainly more than one approach in our system) isn't designed for someone who is kicking at you with high level kickboxing or karate skills. Rather, it is a technique of opportunity that might present itself in a case where someone throws a committed but sloppy front kick at you in real world situation.
      3. Having said that, catching a kick, even in full contact fighting is not by any means unheard of. Happens in MMA with decent regularity. You can even see many videos online from Muay Thai fighters who teach entire instructional videos for when your kick gets caught (mostly round kick but not exclusively so). Please note an example (and there are MANY more - I just grabbed these in about a 60 second search):

      I hope that helps.
