    I really feel like the Team took lessons from "Royal Court" quite well. That DLC was clearly the wrong direction, and they understood it. Tours and Tournaments *traveled* in the right direction, and seemingly Legends of the Dead is cementing it even more. Quite excited about it.

    • @arandombard1197
      @arandombard1197 Před 6 měsíci +3

      What would you say was the problem with Royal Court? I quite liked it, especially the cultural changes.

    • @realdaggerman105

      @@arandombard1197
      Honestly it’s the fact stuff like the cultural changes were the highlight. Not the ‘Royal Court’ itself. A place suitable to host grand coronations or interesting events is instead relegated to prestige and renown farming, with an occasional decision to have 3 events. These events which will also 90% of the time bankrupt you or make you lose tons of prestige.

    • @GINXDocs
      @GINXDocs  Před 6 měsíci +8

      Personally I like both Tours and Royal Court for very different reasons. However I think Tours will age much better with new expansions adding interesting events and reasons to go traveling. Court on the other hand just feels a bit clunky and self contained. I can see it getting some love with the Empire rework in the next expansion though.

    • @arandombard1197
      @arandombard1197 Před 6 měsíci

      I absolutely love Tours, it took the game from something I enjoyed but got bored of pretty quickly to infinitely entertaining. Even as an Emperor, you can just arrange ridiculous 5 year tours of your mighty Empire and actually get to enjoy what you've conquered, host grand weddings for each child, go on hunts and host feasts or the biggest baddest tournaments on the planet, where you personally win all the prizes and present them to yourself.
      Building hybrid and divergent cultures is a great understated feature that a lot of people might not even notice, but once you start playing around with it, you can make your own rules for the game. You can build a tribe of mega desert warriors, wealthy dutch sea traders, zealot irish crusaders etc. Collecting artefacts is also pretty sweet and can let you stack up mega prowess on your emperor.@@GINXDocs

    • @GINXDocs
      @GINXDocs  Před 6 měsíci +8

      @@arandombard1197 I agree completely. The elements I like from Court aren't actually related to the court at all. Divergent cultures are just a really solid mechanic and nails the balance of what makes CK3 special - it's a strategic decision with role playing weight.
      Tours didn't gel with me initially, but I've grown to really enjoy it and now can't imagine playing without it. I think it's also a perfect foundation for future DLCs to build on - I like that they included little trips here and there tied to legends, and can see it playing a big part in the next expansion.
      (Also, sending a ruler I dislike on a massive trip and getting them to eat every poisonous plant they see and fight every wolf they come across is my personal favourite way of killing off bad leaders!)

      - The Welsh duke who sabotaged the 1066 invasion of England and somehow came out on top
      - The Dalmatian Ban who founded Jugoslavia 1,000 years early
      - Something about stealing the Pope's hat

    This video makes me excited! I like that they make rising up faster while also making crashing down easier. One thing I wish the game had more of was massive empires struggling to keep itself together as it continues to grow and now with the legitimacy system it looks like it make the game so much more stressful the longer you play.

    I can't stand most videos on this game, since they come off as so insincere and forced. Only made for short term attention and not capturing any of the magic in this game.
    I'm glad to say that this review preceded my expectations. You managed to get to the heart of what makes Crusader Kings fun to play. The stories it can generate. A selfish act for power being spun to a might tale to justify your imperial conquest. Only to crack during times of hardship. Which themself then lead to new opportunities to cement your legacy in the medieval world.
    This was really fun to watch and kudos to the narrator's being able to capture my attention so flawlessly.

      So that vicious cycle does end when your realm gets fractured, mainly because your vassals have a lower expected legitimacy - so they ease up on your a bit. It was all a lot more pronounced in the video because plague settings were at their maximum so plagues spawned any time someone sneezed. In a normal game it's still something to be wary of - but it won't be as dramatic.

      There is an aspect of the legends passing on through generations, and also retelling stories of ancestors. From what I gathered there is incentive to complete the legends however. They do come with some great passive bonuses the longer they're maintained, but they get very expensive to maintain.
      I only scratched the surface of the mechanic here though - and prioritised completing legends for the immediate gains. Eager to see the extent of what you can do in my next campaign.
