The thing i love about starkid that isn't common in most theater groups is that the actors feel human. They don't feel like exaggerated versions of people, they feel like people saying real things, having real reactions, even if those are goofy and played up. I can lose immersion in a lot of plays when the acting is too acty but rarely with starkid do i get that. They also have a great grasp on their relationship with the audience and how to break the fourth wall without breaking emotional or story beats

I think it also has to do with the fact that they don't hold back on the swearing. Some people find it childish but let's face it: people swear a lot. I say "what the fuck?" or "oh shit" so many times a day I couldn't keep track even if I wanted to. It's comedic in a lot of scenes, but it also makes the dialogue feel very natural.
I know right. I'm especially impressed with Dylan's shop-teacher bit with Angela at 3:16. He sounds so genuine.

Maia T Except he was only happy because the Wigglys would make him money. Like he said, this is gonna turn him from the red to the black. Everything about him seemed like this was his big moment that was going to make his life better and that that’s why he was so positive. But when the riot started he realised that wasn’t going to happen, yet he still wasn’t affected by the Wigglys. Idk tho.

Poppy Anus Mcanus For me the thing is that every clip has to be funny out of context, so someone who hasn’t seen or doesn’t remember the show will still find it funny. So a lot of jokes are cut because they take too long with the set up, or because they aren’t that funny out of context. And that’s one of them. That was a way too long explanation but essentially, I 100% agree that was hilarious but it just doesn’t fit into this sort of video.

I think that's largely why people shit on it, it's darker and less comedic than previous Starkid shows

Agnes Brstrom Tom is just talking to Emma, but Paul thinks he’s talking to both of them. Essentially Tom doesn’t see Paul as family (because he and Emma are barely even together) but Paul inserts himself into their conversation with a lot of confidence. I don’t know how to explain it better that sorry. It’s just funny that he is so confident about something that’s wrong (and also that he breaks this heartwarming moment with his stupidity).
