    This video blew my beard game wide open. I'm 5 or 6 months into my first real beard and I've been lost in all the contradicting advice you can find online. I ended out with a routine I found at a different channel but I was never really satisfied with the result. I have a quite curly and natural looking beard and styling it to look even remotely straight proved difficult.
    I stumbled upon this video last night and figured I'd give it a try. This morning I tried following your routine for the first time and I'm already loving it. My beard is looking much more controlled and isn't pointing straight out which was almost the case before. And I don't have the curls/waves in the sides like I did before.
    The differences between my old routine and this seemed insubstantial at first glance, but I now see there are definitely some eye-openers in there for me such as leaving the oil in for a few minutes before continuing, the way you dry and comb it and especially how gentle you are with the brush. All this differs from my old routine.
    Lastly I'll just say that you're a pleasure to listen to. You don't sound scripted and you're not over excited and in my face. None of which applies to the majority of channels I've encountered.

    I agree, the blow dryer is definitely key for me and my curly beard. My routine is shower, pat dry, heat shield spray, blow dry on warm, add oil, get dressed, blow dry again on warm, add balm, blow dry on warm and finish with cold. Its alot of drying but my beard looks awful without it. I use a heat brush for extra stubborn days.

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  Před 5 lety +2

      Try just normal beard oil you are using for the day and no heat shield. I think you will be surprised by the lack of different 👊

    I got the benefit of not having to put my beard in tip-top shape due to my job of being a mixer operator. I have started adding butter in the morning as I’ve found out it does help keep my beard from drying out during the day. Used to just use oil and that was that. Noticed I my beard dried out and started to do butter and now my beard is doing better. So now I do oil and butter in the morning, I was daily and condition every other day, at night I also use oil and butter. I don’t use any balm. It works for meat the moment. Noticed also that I probably need to start using heat as my beard is doing all the dips, waves and curls that come with my beard getting longer.

    This is nearly identical to the style I have adapted over the years. Took in lots of advice, then just did my own thing. I comb down and style, then do my full mustache last the same way.
    If i am going to be working outside in wind though, I have to just let it dry curly. Otherwise it is a wispy mess.

I do use a brush in the morning. Thick bristles first then soft for final shaping. Haven’t decided to go to balms or scents yet. I have tried scented oil and I did enjoy it but the scent less natural oil is bomb. I use honest Amish. And that’s it for me. I’ll keep a small pocket comb in case I need a touch up.

    Great stuff Dan, almost identical morning routine for me. I do use a very wide tooth sandalwood comb (almost like a pick) for the first run through post towel dry....I find it’s the only way I can gently de tangle the very curly, course hair under my chin. I firmly agree about the importance of the boars hair brush...essential finishing tool....gentle, light, downward strokes keeps all the flyaways down and in place. 👍 cheers Dan, ace beard by the way

    From what I've seen this is a great routine, one thing that I saw on a different video is that the guy moved the blow dryer together with the comb rather than position it on top op your beard so that the damage you could potentially do is minimised.

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  Před 5 lety

      For styling that is a perfectly fine technique, I actually use it most of the time. It would not change anything with damage though.

    I always love to see other people’s morning beard routines. Yours is pretty similar to mine...the only real difference is I don’t put as much care into styling my beard; I did when it was a bit shorter, but it’s pretty long these days (to the third button on button down shirts) so I just keep it conditioned and let it do its thing. Another great video bro!👍
