    For the people asking about dealing with those difficult conversations, you just need to have them. The purpose of a worship team is to worship and praise. It’s not about us, it should be an offering to God. And if you are making an offering to God, it should be your best. If you cannot give God your best, then you need to find another way to worship. Showing up late is not your best. Playing over top of everyone else, to make it all about you, is not giving your best. Once we realize that our job is to provide a gift to God, then we should also realize it’s not about us. You just need to have that difficult conversation, there is no way around it. And if that person cannot accept that, and make the changes necessary, then you need to move on without them.

    For the deaf bass man, the Woojer Strap is essentially a "butt kicker" that vibrates all of the low-end only. It receives a 1/8 inch + send an 1/8 inch, so receiver on belt to Woojer strap to in-ears.

    One solution is to have the team with their IEM right form the start and one in place at all times.

    5:45 In my church, we have events, I lead alone and I'm prepared to do it also without the others. So if they wouldn't be in time there, I could also do the first song alone and they know it.

    For us... I told my teams that we will meet at the sound booth 10 minutes prior to the start of service. Because we go over the order of service and then we pray with everyone as the 5:00 minute countdown starts.

    All of us advanced “gospel” piano players that fill in at a CCM churches got uncomfortable at 15:05 Stick to basic block chords with a pad! 🤣🤣🤣

      I usually simplify my playing, less is more. Sometimes I doesn't do the chord changes, in C-Major I play C and G with the right hand and the chord changes comes by the bass tones.

    In regards to worship team getting ready in time.
    We have a pre roll video that starts 5mins before. after being at our church for more then 2 weeks in a row you know the audio track and what it means and that is sent everywhere in the building so people know it is time. As the audio human I have also been instructed as the video gets to 1min to go to raise the volume to a point that it is difficult to talk over so everyone heads to their seats.
    Funny thing is the audio has an abrupt end for the band to start and if they miss that cue boy is it jarring.

      We don't do it but of course, I have a thought - you can do the first song lead-in during practice night. If the worship team actually practices, of course :) We have a Thursday evening and expect players to have practiced during the weeks leading up. Our teams change so many teams have two weeks or more to practice. So many of the missed cues and trouble a worship team and even pastor transition happen due to lack of practice. I'm certainly at fault for not doing a longer sound check of pastors and guests or pushing for what "I want" on the team. I kind of lean toward the "they're in charge, some of the team are on church staff, I'm a volunteer, etc." I think I need to be a bit more aggressive (some call that "leadership" but I would call it polishing the event to run smoother and everyone should really want to do that, right?) Our church has a big tenant of church being community and the worship team does mingle with the congregation before and after services, but our countdown on the screens does offer them a viewpoint of time left. Over a bunch of years, I have only had to chase down a team member maybe 3 times.

      I’m glad that I’m not the only one that tells my guys to dim the lights and pump the volume at a minute till 😂

    • @TroyNahrwold
      @TroyNahrwold Před 8 měsíci

      But that being said, after our countdown, we run a preworship “hype” video. The bonus is that between it’s pretty much the same each week. Our worship team knows exactly how and when it ends, so the band knows when to crash in, or whoever is leading knows when to welcome everyone.

    The comment with the question about the 70yo worship team player (bass) who was "deaf" - usually as we age, we lose high frequencies, so his issue with bass not being heard likely was an IEM sealing tip issue. Would need foam tips or proper fitting tips to ensure a seal. But also - that's an opportunity to get him to an audiologist. Likely not a cheap solution but you could do your own hearing test online for basically free. First, get the right tips, implement IEMs and use tones on a tone generator to sense where he may be losing frequencies. I had a hearing test done in 2022 before my medical treatments that were possibly going to affect hearing. The cost they charge insurance for what they did could easily be done by yourself. They just use an isolation booth to keep things quiet and some basic headphones and tones. The tip I got from a monitor mixer at this year's AES show was that bass players can still use IEMs and have a wedge setup and a high-cut filter at 120Hz or so. Just give them the lower rumble they think they need.

    • @AaronDanielson
      @AaronDanielson Před 8 měsíci +1

      I think you're spot on with the IEM sealing issue. I play the bass, and when the ears aren't in right, there's just no bass. It's not just quieter, it's 100% gone. Also spot on with the wedge suggestion - once I started bringing my little single speaker cabinet for a personal monitor, that changed the game completely.

    If you’re married and you love the church and you want to work you have to work and put in your effort at home even if that means waking up earlier. Clean. Organize take care of the house and pay attention to the needs of your wife and kids.

    I stumbled over a video, where a church drummer told us, that he learns in church so many skills, he could also use when doing secular music, Country, Rock and Metal.
    Few ones noticed the elephant in the room. Well, a long time I also tried doing secular music beside worship, but I would never have joined a music style, where you can avoid blaspheme or occult messages. Meanwhile I stopped this and turned completely to worship music.

    Some of the suggestions are way to harsh even though they don’t mean to be that way. You have to lead with love. We have a team of 22 and each person has their own life. Level of maturity. Personal issues.
